As a professional gunsmith myself, it is very difficult to underestimate just how important a good vise is to your trade. I use the Orange Vise bench vises (I have 2 and I bought them when they cost half what they do now), but I’m very glad to see Brownells offer this high quality option to the cheaper China and India imports on the market. One suggestion: consider adding a return or pedestal mounting your vise. I found that when the vise is bolted directly to the table, it often takes up valuable workbench space when something is clamped in the vise. By pedestal mounting or adding a specific return to the table just for the vise, you get the vise off your bench top and frees up room for the bench and also makes the vise more accessible as well. Great video!

One handy set of vise jaws I’ve made, is to take 1-1/2” copper pipe, split it right down the center, heat it up in the forge, flatten it out, the forge and quenching the copper keeps it soft, then just simply put in vise and bend a 90 degree angle, one for each jaw. I completely understand the vise snobbery, I own several Wilton vises.

I saw it on the Brownells channel the other day, great looking vice, thinking of picking one up myself as a second vice. The lift base is a big plus.

Just bought the same vise and mounts from Brownells. Could not be happier! After
nearly 50 years as a gunsmith I have never seen or used a vise as good as this AND, with the hydraulic base, my back will thank me.

Love the idea of being able to raise / lower the vise but that's about it.
I would like to have that and install a 3x adjustable multipurpose vise.

The ability to raise the vise, is something none of my vises have. That could be very handy.

I believe those jaws are vulcanized rubber, same as hockey pucks. I have a parrot vise I got from Brownells with similar magnetic soft jaws.

What would you recommend using to paint it. Personally not a fan of the green. (Thanks for the great video)
