Could this be result of Dex getting mixed with ethylene glycol based coolant? Also as far as verifying without sending into the lab those things you put the blue fluid in that look like a turkey baster and test for co2 in the cooling system seem to be pretty solid as far as verifying one way or the other. I'm just a DIY nerd you probably know better than I do but I was surprised you didn't bust one of those out!
The fact she wanted that code cleared, and lights off with just enough to repairs to make it run a bit smoother makes me think she is attempting to dump it on someone knowing it is faulty.
And then they open the radiator cap and see it’s fucked 😂
Maybe trade it in.

That's exactly what she's doing. But honestly, all Chrysler products post 2006 are trash.
Putting a new coil in that engine is like having your knee replaced while your having a heart attack. The operation was a success, but the patient died. This is not the last time we see this Jeep. It will be back within a week or two with a claim that the shop did something that 'broke' the engine because it was just here for repairs. I hope the manager was savvy enough to explain clearly and have a statement signed that the customer knows that engine won't last beyond the parking lot unless it receives the repairs necessary.
Yea, I've gotten some scammer vibes from that customer.
Tru That !
@@chikinnippls7108 yea but if it comes to that he did record the car 2 times and diginostics so he is covered. The was fucked before he put the coil In it the video shows proof of that. The customer just choose to ignore the problem and wasit money in a new coil.
That middle finger at the window switch has me dying😂😂 same thing I would have done
How do you fail at making a simple switch? Fucking Jeeps.

I guess it's a Jeep thing, I wouldn't understand.
I noticed at the 2:50 mark you didn't put one of those paper floor matt protectors in the vehicle. I suspect this is the cause of the misfire due to the correlation between the cylinder coil and a dirty floor matt
Actually dirty floor mats will crack your cylinder head
one paper mat per car per week
The vehicle is not worth the cost of a paper mat!
@@kevinmartin2516 Have you seen the cost of paper mats recently ....
I concur
You know it's trouble when they say "it was running better before you touched it"
Some customers need to be fired.
Exactly I call it "Your the last one to touch it" syndrome!
I had a Ford fusion I worked on and customer complained about a steering wheel shake at all speeds. I found a steer tire with a tumor growing out of it and the rest are bald I told them to just get new tires and it would be fine. A week later they contact me that the shake is still there so I asked if they replaced the tires and they said no🤦🤦and asked if I wasn't sure it was something else wrong
I have “fired” several customers. Either because of their general stupidity, they keep trying to “get a deal” by trying to screw me, or if they’re a general pain in the ass.
I fired one for all 3. His boss (he was a framing subcontractor) was a great customer of ours and he tried to screw him over. Of course, we heard the story and were very aware of him and his antics. He asked for an early draw on a Friday and since he was due for his draw on Monday, my customer paid him. The guy took the check to one of those gas station check cashing places and cashed the check (for about $5k iirc). The guy never showed up to finish the job, so my customer put a stop payment on the check. This got blown into a whole situation and he ended up owing the $5k back to the gas station, plus he had to pay court costs and fines.
He would bring his tools to my shop and like any other shop, we give you a claim ticket. He would bring in 15-20+ tools at a time and take extra claim tickets. We just keep a stack of them by the shop and the guys fill out their tags and take their copy and attach the other copy to the tools. This wasn’t always our policy, but since COVID it kept everyone separate. Anyway, he would come back in and pick up his 15-20 tools and then magically produce 2 or 3 more claim tags. Of course we would come up empty handed and he would demand his other tools. I cut his repair charge down the first time to cover 1 lost tool. The second time I gave him a new tool. The third time he tried it with 3 tools. Well, this time I had my tech set up an excel spreadsheet that logged every tool that came in for repair and he had claimed all of his tools. I took him to the repaired tool part of my warehouse and showed him that we had no more of his tools. I showed him the log where he had gotten all of his tools. He started yelling and cussing at me that we had lost his tools again and I had to explain to him that in 8 years since I’ve been here, we have never lost a customer tool except his. And we’ve done it 3 times with 5 different tools. I find that very hard to believe. He again acted belligerent and I asked if he’d like to file a police report. He said no, just replace his tools. I said that he would have to replace his rectum after I put my size 15 up his ass. I then “politely” asked him to never step foot in my store again. That’s when he threatened to kick my ass and told me to meet him outside. I told him that was probably not a good idea and if he continued that I would call the police and have him trespassed from the property. He again said that we could settle things “man to man” outside in the parking lot. I said, “If that’s what you think would be best, let’s go.” My front counter guy looked at me with that look like, “Are you really going to do this?” I stood up from my chair with all of my 6’6” and 300 pounds and started walking with him to the door. As soon as he walked out, I locked the door behind him. I told my counter guy, “If he’s not gone in 5 minutes, we’re calling the police. He left after a few minutes and I haven’t seen him since. I heard he had been fired from a couple of other builders and had to move out of town to find work. It’s a shame he has that attitude because I heard he’s a hell of a good builder. Sorry…got a little long-winded there.

One good thing about making these videos you have proof to show the customer.
I'd honestly refuse to work on it. I can smell this scam a mile away. They want to the engine to so they can strap the shop with the cost of a new engine "because you worked on it and not my engine blowed up" despite all the evidence you provided.
Court would throw it out.

This is one of the times that your employer will be grateful for you filming a diagnostic
If i was an employer the one handed mechanic might be a downside BUT. Monumental upside to filming everything done for proof
The Customer needs to be made aware that continuing to drive this Jeep in this condition will result in rapid unscheduled disassembly (RUD) very soon.
I can see it coming a mile away: CEL returns or engine fails due to its current condition. Angry customer returns and will claim that they didn't fix her car and they will want the shop to pay for a new engine...
The real failure is in Rays boss not having the balls to let the lady know that continued driving of this vehicle will result in catastrophic damage leaving her stranded. Refuse to service this vehicle, and get on with business. This is not something the mechanic should be expected to resolve. This is a management issue.
@@Dave-ty2qp Agreed! That vehicle should have never been pulled back into the garage unless it was to repair already diagnosed issues. Denial is not just a River in Egypt…

Yep, some people are just in denial...
When I worked at a small shop we had an account that had a fleet of these Jeep Libertys.
Almost every one of them developed a cooling system leak by 20-25K, usually in the radiator. Freaking junk.

You need to bring the customer to repair bay (after signing safely release form, of course) and show her what her coolant looks like and an example of what it should look like. Then draw on cardboard with crayons a diagram with circles and arrows and cylinder head and block....
I love having my own shop because I always pick and choose what I want to work on….even collision repair I pick and choose

Car had MIL for misfire and a rod knock as well, advised on engine replacement needed: declined replace a bad fuel fuel injector, misfire cured, car came back a week later claiming “ever since” engine is knocking
Guess the knock was cyl 2 which is the injector I replaced and yea that knock got worse
Took us to court and lost
Sounds like they think they're setting you guys up for a free engine. "They didn't fix it! they made it worse!" In spite of it being a horrible idea to try that with something like this.
HI,i think your right!!! They may say it only got bad after it came from this shop. GOOD THING RAY made this video to begin with. The judge WILL NEED TO VIEW the video himself.the misfire coil part is legit no-one can argue that was done while in the shop. But the blown head gasket could possibly be argued that the mechanic drove it without fluid in the radiator and overheated it thereby blowing the engine up.I don't remember if ray drove it around 1st- as he does with complaints about squealing brakes & wheel shimmy's and no power issues,THEN AFTER CONFIRMING THE COMPLAINT pulls the car into a stall to look at it.Lets use this reasoning>CUST_my car has a shimmy.RAY >let me take it for a test drive>CUST > OK,please do so.5min later a WHEEL FALLS OFF due to ALL the lug nuts being LOOSE>?????Who fault it it?? ray was only test driving it.BUT HE BROKE IT,what do you guys say??who's at fault, legally.
@@robertoruiz7069 Please take a writing course.
@@robertoruiz7069 Yah Ray never drove it around as he stated in the part one video of this vehicle as he said it feels like it was running very rough and might die so he drove it right into the shop. As for them thinking they're going to scam him which does look like it by the way they keep bringing it back and denying everything but as Ray stated in the past most of the mechanics there record everything because this happens far too often with people trying to sue the shop for free repairs. Ray was the smart one and decided to make a UA-cam channel with all the videos he had stacked up and I for one am glad he did.
Good thing everything is video documented and easily found on UA-cam. Ray is saving his shop's ass with his vis vid and they know it.
Except the shop would likely get the legal advice: "Pay them a few $thousand if they will drop the lawsuit. It is cheaper than a court case."
Somebody is looking for a free fix. Glad you record everything.
I see what this customer is trying to do, they're hoping that the olace you work at isn't looking up the paper trail and attempting to claim that all the poking around you did to figure out what was wrong has somehow caused it to break.

This is the type of customer that will be back the next day complaining the coil didn't solve the overheating issue then will badmouth their mechanic for taking advantage of them and not fixing the issue. I feel for you doing what your shop wants, but I much prefer being an independent owner and saying we are going to do it right or not at all.

Never ever get tired of these kinds of videos, also one of the reasons why I stay away from Chrysler/ Dodge, the modules - gaskets and there components don't age well. 😁 Great video Ray! 👍
I suspect this issue was caused by the customer continuing to drive the car while it was overheating. When a car is overheating you pull over ASAP when it is safe to do so and have the car towed so you do not FUBAR the engine.
Yeah this is definitely all on Chrysler. I’m sure the fact that the owner is an idiot has nothing to do with the condition of this vehicle.🙄
It’s a Jeep thing. I don’t understand
they rust like 90's toyotas also lol
Uh sir you have a blown engine ...customer: i am back b/c its running rough
Im almost certain the customer wanted you to drive it was in hopes of it blowing up on you and that way they could force shop to pay for the repairs.
I hope you did a REEEEE when it turned up! I feel your energy levels were either pre-coffee, or pre-heineken.
We had a guy, who after being told not to come back for trying to scam the shop on multiple repairs, would randomly show up and harass customers from the sidewalk. Cops couldn't do anything, this went on for at least 6 months. Finally, one of our good long term customers, a large burly tattooed man, "convinced" him to go away permanently.
I know the customer would be upset but, take yesterday’s paperwork, cross out the date and put today’s date on it, then hand it back. Nothing magically changed since yesterday.
That's just it, they're hoping there's no paperwork so they can blame the shop for making things worse.
@@wakcedout Or hoping a different tech would give a different diagnoses.
What changed - they continued driving with a failing head gasket / head.
Done that many times...lol
Someone probably advised the customer to get a 2nd opinion but the customer was too stupid to realize that should be from a 2nd shop.
What is the definition of insanity?: Doing the same thing over and over, expecting different results!

I can't believe this vehicle is back And Services keep getting declined there is a ton of liability on this Job Yikes ray I'm surprised the service manager didn't decline this customer service @Rainman Ray's Repairs
I remember getting my first car. An 01 V8 Jeep grand cherokee Laredo. The previous owner completely destroyed it. Right cylinder was cracked, left cylinder was warped, head gasket blown. It came from Minnesota, and it never had an undercarriage wash, so the undercarriage was just rust, including the brake system. One time while I was driving home, the gas tank dropped from the rust.
So basically I had to rebuild it entirely. Putting a new engine in it, new brake system, new oil pan, transmission pan, gas tank, new radiator, new power steering pump, new transmission. Everything! Granted after that, she drove like a dream. I loved that SUV despite all the issues it had 🤣
Customer wanted a second opinion so they brought it back again the next day. 😀
Thanks for the cylinderoscopy.
Changing that coil is like putting a band aid on a heart attack. That customer just needs to admit that her jeep is toast and that if she continues to drive it she wont be driving it long. She'll be walking very soon.
I love how you flipped off the window switch. LOLz
That was hilarious! Thanks, Ray for the 🤣entertainment. Laughing my ass off!
Great video. I know the effort of shooting, editing and uploading so I know how hard your working
Ray, just swap that coil with that of the cracked cylinder trhen send her on her way. It seams to be a geadache kind of customer
Each coil runs 2 cylinders, the bottom plugs directly on and spark plug wire coming off it goes to the other side of the engine. so you would just make a different cylinder misfire.
It looked to me like a coil-per-cylinder, since he pulled it directly off the plug. But with that, I still wouldn't swap them around. Customers like that will take it to another shop for a second opinion. Last thing I would want, is for some autozone certified newbie to show the coil on the bad cylinder arching out...and using that to somehow shame me.
I would be more tempted to wrap the old boot a couple of times with electrical tape, then slather the crap out it with dielectric grease.
@@TonyGingrich NO! He would let the customer know that he could simply swap the coil to see if it'll run better. The customer doesn't want to spend money! I'm not telling him to rip off the customer by pretending to change the coil!!!

Unfortunately your service writer should have done their job properly and said that no we will not replace your coil because it will not fix the problem. They should have explained again that anytime there is chocolate milk in the system a coil will not fix it
I AGREE! The service writer really screwed up.
I'd GUESS the lady is being coached by another (¿Lover?) and, so, they are getting bad advice from that person. This shop has a REQUIREMENT to put down in writing in addition to telling the lady (" there's your problem lady ") that the milky coolant means the engine is severely BROKEN. That it will soon break-down leaving her stranded. That they must do the job correctly:
(-1-) R&R engine, or (-2-) tear down to find root failure that will likely be as expensive as replacing engine, or (-3-) scrap the car. That it WILL NOT LIVE FOR 2 more days, or 2 weeks, or two months. BUT LIKELY NO LONGER!
That your shop will NO LONGER attempt nickle/dime repairs. That they should google: "what milky coolant means."
Or, do what the customer asks, don't forget the customer always knows best.🤣
Re-diagnose, fit the coil and charge for both accordingly then, when, if, they return, dig out both sets of paperwork and ask them what do you want us to change next, at their cost of course, till hopefully, eventually, they realise, they should have taken note of what an expert initially advised.
I was taught this about 60+ odd years ago by my dad..............." Common sense isn't a gift, it's a punishment, because you have to deal with everyone who doesn't have it ". .............and it's as true now as it was then. 😉😆

But, you know, sometimes is just not possible
I don’t even think this customer is in denial. This customer wants this car to be sellable. The misfire and the check engine light prevent that.
I didn't even think of them trying to dump it on someone else, I thought that they were trying to scam the repair shop, they thought that the repair shop did something to make it look like it needed a lot of work, or was just in total denial as the car is technically running so how can it be the engine ... who knows with people now days.

When I was a service manager, I always refused work on cars on like this. The reason: you end up doing the small repair they requested and they end up coming back a week or two later claiming you broke their car because it is running worse.
Customer: the bath is leaking through the ceiling. Me: You need a new waste fitting as it's cracked, will be x amount of money. Customer: That'll be a no, can you put the old one back but make sure it doesn't leak...
yep easy really just seal the crack with glue or clear calking
@@jonsworld5307 And when it breaks it'll be my fault. Also, she didn't want to pay me any money for the work I'd done, or the 'repair'.
@@chriswatson7488 now that id not do il hack job you repair if you sign waver i want do it free tho
You have become very good at adapting your "du-de-du-de-du"s to the situation and mood. I had a good laugh at your argumentative "du-de-du-de-duuu" to the driver of the car that passed behind you.
I know that it's a shock when the mechanic says you posable need a motor. But what were they expecting when they came back?
I could almost see the frustration streaming out of my screen. It looked like faint red smoke.
Lose this customer quickly! This reeks of an individual trying to get a full repair job for free by blaming you and the shop with the old "ever since you..." trick! Avoid these kinds of people at all costs!!😨
Jeep is currently on FB Marketplace for $10k, with a fresh head gasket replacement..
It's like, if a person had two clogged heart arteries and an ingrown toenail, and were disappointed that the foot doctor's work didn't fix their heart problem.
The light bar is awesome.
People are stupid sometimes at this point you are just rearranging the chairs on a sinking ship.
@1:15 - portal to an alternate universe with its own Rainman Ray. Definitive proof that this customer refuses to listen to reason in all timelines across the multiverse..
They declined repair and brought it back because you didn't fix it?
This level of stupidity seems pretty common when you deal with the public.
reality is, they wanted to scam him into giving a free repair since he touched it last
476th! YIPPEE! BOY HOWDY! GOOD EVENING RAY! Roger in Pierre South Dakota
And I remember those patriots having engine issues even in 2014 they did when I worked for Enterprise ....Had so many patriots in our lot with fucked up engines.
But this is a Liberty with the 3.7 V6.
Ray flipping the bird at the door switch is something I do frequently on most tasks I perform........
I was half expecting the customer to say to Ray, scrap it. Then Ray could pull the head and see the devastation. Instead, the customer cheats and lies. This Jeep isn't going to last much longer. Just as well...
The jeep brings back memories, we had a commander and I pulled the engine and rebuilt it at 180,00 runs great, has 230,000 now.
