This is how I cured myself - by realizing that my mother was void of empathy. The reason? Her mother was ill with cancer until she died when my mom was 16. My mom was the middle child in a family of 7. Life must have been a mad house, with not enough love or tenderness to go around. Mental health problems are passed down generationally. In my opinion, psychoanalysis has been on the wrong track for more than 100 years.
Free association? What a super complicated joke! 🙃 Most people are capable of remembering their lives as very small children. My memories began around 2 years old. Yes, small children are aware and know their feelings! They may not know how to interpret those feelings. Memories combined with sleep dreams are all that's necessary for analysis. If there is no empathy in our family, we must maintain our unique agency - yes, some children have it without knowing what it is. It's the only ability that we own that will allow us to not become engulfed in the perceived deceit that children can feel, yet not digest or understand. EDIT: Thinking about the introduction of agency in early childhood, perhaps identity is a better description. How early can Agency evolve? IDK, it was only recently that I think Agency evolves or matures throughout each person's lives. It's to me, a fascinating question. Has there been research into this topic? Looking back, recently to a conversation I had with my father on a specific topic, makes me believe that I had Agency as a child. Who else has had similar thoughts about themselves finding Agency as children? I could go into more detail, but why? No one will respond. And of course, not everyone finds Agency. My own analysis allowed my Agency to blossom.😮
A lot of these lectures are lollygagging for the super smart. But how is the evidence? How has the newest cure helping those with mental health problems?
Excellent lecture, the best I've heard in years. Self Psychology lives on.
