    10:42 I’m so glad you mentioned the Choctaw Tribe donation to the Irish Famine immigrant. I went to Ireland last month, and we went to the Kindred Spirit Sculpture near Midleton, Cork, Ireland. It was fascinating to hear the story. 🥰🍀

    Hey, thank you for the shout out, brother.
    I see you down there in hurricane alley doing shit for the ones that struggle.
    I'm gonna keep holding it down on that same shit up here in the PNW.
    I've worked in peer services and/or case management for the last 6 & 1/2 years, first in Oregon, then Idaho, and now Washington.
    If I can keep these guys from getting as far down the rabbit hole as I did, or at least give them a little hope and direction to get a new chance at life...? That's what it's all about.
    Stay up, mick!

      @@JdDelay5150 I feel that. Lil Earl and I used to pass a lot of books and study material to the homeboys to get educated on our history and traditions. Now I do that same shit with addicts, sharing information is what I'm good at.
      I'm glad to hear you can glean something from my path. But remember, we all gotta do our own work, and being an example is all we can do for the next guy. Show that change is possible, education is possible, overcoming bullshit is our bread and butter.
      Much L & R. You keep sharing that shit with the world, both the old bullshit, and the new message of hope. They need to see both sides of the coin.

      @@rocirish76 I never in my life thought that I was building a terrible past to use it as a résumé to be able to have a voice of experience to reach those that needed help finding a better future. It was actually my super conservative Christian mom, who I was kind of ashamed to talk about my old bullshit with because she worked hard to raise me right, who laced me up. She said that I may not have joined the military or the police or paramedics or anything, but I still turned my life and my experience into a life of service to my community. The hard path that I had put myself on still created the opportunity for me to really impact people who were suffering. So today, I feel no shame or guilt for the fucked up shit I did to my community, because I've spent even longer trying to help people all across the pacific northwest to get their shit together.
      I may not be all over social media speaking to it(still too shy for that shit), but I have been in the trenches on recovery for 14 years, and working professionally for 6.5 years trying to show cats that there is another way to live.

I wanted to learn about what he went through. He died from fentanyl a few years back and when he got out he'd changed drastically. I can listen to it on TV and speakers, but when I'm listening through headphones, something about it just doesnt feel right and I cant do it. I think people listening on headphones would love it when its a balanced microphone. Theres even software to make a single channel microphone audio into a stereo channel so that its easier on the ears. Love the content man, especially all the stories. Like these dudes are treating me really decent, welcoming me into their home (most of them were there for five to ten years) and I am a visitor here, a tourist some of them jokingly called me. Right when I walked in the dorm they were like "What's up, new guy? You need a book to read?" "Hey bro, this bunk's not taken if you wanna get in with us." "Oh, we grew up in the same 'hood? Bet. We homies now." "Wanna borrow my radio after my program's over?" Solid, solid dudes. Granted this was a minimum security wing with dorm-style housing for non-vioent offenders. I can't speak on what the mods were like.

    Sometimes I think military service and even prisons are replacing the rites of passage of old; because as a veteran who knows a few reformed convicts, these are the best, most productive and dare I say the best role models of my community. These weak boys growing up sadly have no good role models to look up to and haven't been put to the test, so they can see if they have it in them to be the leaders we need today. Thanks, JD, for acknowledging your past, growing past your mistakes while keeping that mentality and discipline in you.

      I think it's because certain areas attract the alphas. They attract the men who still want to be men. The only difference between those who've been to prison and those who haven't is that some got caught. Most guys worth a shit have done something at some point that would put them behind bars. Some just got caught. Got to learn from those mistakes.

The pain caused to our people was unbelievable, and some people still think St Patrick's day is a happy day 🙄 the "snakes" were the Irish druids, the religion at the time that conflicted with the rigid beliefs of the Christian church. So those that didn't convert were killed or "driven out".

    As an actual Irish person born and raised in Ireland usually we think people born in América who say they are Irish no matter their genetics we never would consider you Irish. For us its not really your genetics its more cultural and if you are born and raised in America it makes you American even if you grow up in Irish American neighbour hoods. Like for example a really good friend of mine was born in England and moved to Ireland when he was 6 but he grew up in Ireland and understands the culture , the slang and gets the "craic" but when this prison lad started talking about the History it gave me a little more respect for Irish Americans.

      I'm American living in Ireland (Married an Irish woman) and have tried so hard to explain this shit to other Americans.
      I've warned them not to claim anything but American when talking to an actual Irish person because it makes them look stupid and Irish people are tired of hearing every other American say "I'm Irish".
      People just don't get it.
      I think it's related to our country being so new and immigrants used to stick to their own. They aren't trying to claim nationality but more so their descendants. All Americans other than the natives came from somewhere else in the last 200 years or so.
      It's an American phenomenon that not many other countries share.
      So there is confusion on both sides. I've lived in Ireland long enough though that when I hear another American say they are Irish, all I can do is cringe with second hand embarrassment.
      Your man might know a decent amount since there's a lot of time to read in prison but most can't find it on a map, name any of the counties, etc.
      I totally see why it gets under the skin of actual Irish people. Even reading the comments has me embarrassed on others behalf.

    Absolute respect brother! Reminds me of a funny thing when I served a baby stint for distribution of pyschs. I am a proud Celt, and proud Norse. Not because we are some bullshit "master race," but because i honor my ancestors and their traditions. As a result, I met a guy with a book on Nordic traditions, borrowed it to learn the runes of my people. He had respect for me because I worked at a bookstore that sold herbs (like chamomile and other medicines) and books on alternative faiths. One day another white bro walked over and asked what it was about, and I told him "these are runes, a form of writing for the Nordic people, with each rune being full f meaning." He said - "hold up... is that some white supremecy shit?" At the same time, my dude and I responded... me "Hell no!" And the guy who lent me the book said "well yeah, master race bro." After that, I was told, with all respect, that maybe I should sit at the table the "weird whites," mostly old heads and quiet guys (which is cool, I'm a hippie and a herbalist... I fight for my community to heal, thats it.) That said, I only have love for you and our people, we would have been cool on the inside haha.

Did I miss it? Great to know that he learned about Irish history and the relationship between the Irish and other immigrants. It's been like that all over. In the UK in the 50s - boarding houses would have signs saying 'No Blacks, No Irish, No Dogs'. You'll find that the black community has a lot of time for the Irish, and vice-versa.

    Thanks for sharing some of your own personal history. I really liked that you mentioned the great potato famine and the bond of the Irish and the Native Americans. They explain some of the horrors of the famine, in a remarkable way. Here's the link

      So you're british descent then, scots-irish = ulster scots who are the brits ''occupying'' northern ireland. I hope youre not trying to join up with the IRA?

    • @JimOne-pz5hj
      @JimOne-pz5hj Рік тому

      MANY american scotch irish/ulster scots dont know that they're british planters and support irish independence movements because its trendy. If you're scots irish you have no irish in you, unless you mean you have scottish and irish descent, in which case you're not an scots-irish american.

    Hey JD, love your content bro. Thank you for all you do. I was curious if you or anyone else can fill me in on the "ooh eee vey" reference? Also a fellow Irishman, only half but my people came here in 1810 & settled in Tennessee where the land is still in my family.

    • @MarcusToroian
      @MarcusToroian Рік тому

      Pretty sure he means “oy vey” which is a Jewish saying, or exclamation. White supremacists use it in a disrespectful way, to identify one another in their shared hatred of Jews. At least that’s how it is out on the street. If he meant something different by it, I’d love to know what it means too.
      I spent about a year from 2018-2019 paying close attention to the fringe right/white nationalist movement because I wanted to know the truth. They almost got me, I’m not gonna lie, but I still don’t regret that learning experience. I just wasn’t down with all the hate.

Everyone else in gen pop chilling with TV's playing cards, trading canteen and shit. Meanwhile I'm locked in a pod 23 hours a day with some sketchy dudes.
