The best part of these videos is Anthony passionately recreating the songs with his angelic voice.
Ima need a compilation of them all at some point
I have a few videos of his singing on my channel. It’s compilations from this series.
I wish he would do it for every song so I could be reminded of the ones I forgot
i completely agree
Same
Say it Right is absolutely crack. One of the best pop hits of that whole decade tbh
IT‘S SO GOOD
Paparazzi by Lady Gaga lowkey sounds like it lol.
If that isn't an S tier pop song I don't know what is
Yep
Can I just say I didn't think I'd ever heard this song but this comment got me to go listen to it and I realized that song and music video is actually one of my earliest memories which is such a weird thing to realize this many years after the fact. I had a similar realization with Bleeding Love by Leona Lewis. I remember being weirdly enchanted by that video
Finally, after 16 years later, I can enjoy an Akon track. Thanks, Melon.

Ruka ruka Ali?
Chammak challo also
nah b umbrella is S tier for sure. The groove on it, the crazy intro, the jay z verse introducing rihanna, the massive hook, the epic feeling of it. I get if you don't like it but that song really changed rihanna's career, it was probably the most important moment of her career.
Most definitey
Easy S tier
One of the most legendary songs of the decade. You just can't not put it in S tier
"Importance" is a pretty dodgy metric. Plenty of bad songs are important. Plenty of bad songs launched artists' careers.
Melon was off on this one
Anthony sort of liking Hey There Delilah is big news for me. I fully expected him to annihilate and roast that song lol
Huge surprise when I seen it coming up I’m like yeah he’s about to roast this 😂 I get it’s “corny” or how ever it’s perceived by some but it’s honestly a well written song imo that’s catchy and deff a ballad that’s fun to sign along… I ain’t calling it top tier but I have always thought it was a decent track for what it is.
Yes it’s a good song
"Hey there Delilah I am gay and like penis" -Stav
I like that song okay but its too faux intimate to hear blasted in your ears at a Taco Bell, nobody can have a conversation while that bullshit is playing at 11 volume.
@@goldengrill769 part of me's convinced that if Delilah never became a huge hit, people wouldn't trash on it so much. I think it's a case of overplay making or breaking something.
The Gwen Stefani woo woo song and Rihanna's umbrella feel like they were way further apart. I would have guessed Gwen was from 2005 and Rihanna was like 2011.
Both of them should've been in S tier imo
yeah its just cause you associate Gwen with the early 2000's and Rihanna with the 2010's
@@maren8597I would say Gwen Stefani between mid 90s to mid 2000s
If this is the energy for 2007 I can't wait for 2009 tbh
Edit:
Honestly I hadnt seen the billboard top ten, I was more basing this opinion off of how much of a legendary, timeline shaking year 2009 was for pop culture in general (lady gaga mtv performance, Kanye and Taylor, Michael jackson etc) but ALSO please there's so many outrageous bangers JUST outside of the top ten (lady gaga, Britney spears etc) that it's actually a bit diabolical
@urnoturjob. 2007 and 2009 were the two worst years for music in the 00’s.
@@nu-metalfan2654 u r lost my friend
@@martinebonita2658 The top song was Boom Boom Pow, easily one of the worst number one hit in history. Yeah, there were a couple of Lady Gaga songs, but there was also a mid Flo Rida song.
@Operation: Heavener man on the moon lowkey sucks when you listen to it now, it hit hard as fuck when i was in middle school though
@@okagron boom boom pow is a banger please 💀💀💀
Say It Right is an S & Melon knows it
Apparently pop music "crack" doesn't hit hard enough for Melon
Best song on the list if I am being honest! Straight up pop banger love that track.
Absolute nostalgia for me. 2007 was when I started paying more attention to radio hits and a lot of the ones from 2007 really stuck with me and still do over the years.
Same, its iconic
2007 contained lot of top S songs like All My Friends, Paper Planes, Umbrella, Say it Right, Reckoner, and the song that introduced me to Arctic Monkeys, Brianstorm.
Can't take our eyes off the t-shirt and tie combination.
We'll see you later, innovator
I heard Reckoner the first time it dropped and it's still my favorite Radiohead song to this day, such a lasting impact it left on me.
Absolutely loved that album, Favourite Worst Nightmare is fucking awesome. Brianstorm, Fluorescent Adolescent and 505 are all bangers
Atlas by Battles 💥
Let me add "(Antichrist Television Blues)" and "Time to Pretend".
Melon enjoying the Plain White T's is a plot twist I did not see coming
I usually agree with him, usually...
Nobody:
Fantanano: "Plain White T's are better than Beyonce lol"
@@countyfacts6920 plain white t's only hit is better than one of dozens of beyonce's? yessir
The fact that every single one of these tracks has vocal defenders shows how much of a juggernaut this year was.
'Say It Right' is such a good song
I think it's safe to say 2007 is the most agreeable year of the century to so far. Like it doesn't have the absolute cream of the crop songs, although it has some great ones, but it does not have hardly any songs that you really want to skip. Pretty much every song is worth a play or a listen. That's pretty rare.
Good way to put it! For me it’s definitely one of the most balanced years of the 2000s… it doesn’t really have the top end bangers ( even tho they are great songs) but yeah it’s a consistent year with some really memorable hits.
@Nathan 2007 was fucking awful. Plain White T’s, Sean Kingston, Soulja Boy, Leona Lewis, The Hoosiers, Mika. 2007 was fucking awful
same goes for movies, really good year for all media
@@nu-metalfan2654 stop being a personification of the genre in your name
@@nu-metalfan2654 you’re a nu metal simp so it’s not surprising y’all always say shit like that 😂 and don’t get me wrong wasnt as good as the earlier part of the decade but 07 had some good hits. And Nu metal is good at times but also has plenty of trash in the genre like every pop list has at times lol
07 was a banger year for films too. No country, there will be blood, jesse james, divng bell and thebutterfly. There was something in the air
Same for games. You had TF2, Halo 3, CoD 4, Bioshock, Portal, Mario Galaxy, Mass Effect, Guitar Hero 3... wild year
Also Michael Clayton and Superbad!
Ratatouille. Chef's kiss.
❤
Transformers 1, I Am Legend, There Will Be Blood, Superbad, Knocked Up, Juno etc.
So glad that Say it Right is getting its love here. One of my all time favorite pop songs. Been trying to explain what makes it so good whenever it comes on for 15 years now haha.
People are gonna have a field day with him saying he's more into S&M.
He did criticize Sexyback for being not dirty enough also. Combine that revelation with the Rihanna one and I think we're getting a pretty good look into the happenings in Melon's bedroom
69 likes :p
S&M is fire tho lol
Loud is the best Rihanna album
@@BigOwl51 agreed. She was pumping out anthem after anthem on that project
I had to pause the video when Before He Cheats came up because I was so scared Melon had a hot take on this song. I am so glad he didn’t.
Dawg you cannot overstate how hard that song hit at the time, immediately after, and to this day still. Unbelievable crossover appeal. I am an inner city black dude, hip hop was my first love, but I have sang that song at the top of my lungs with actual criminals. The easiest S I have ever seen. If that shit got an A I would’ve thrown my phone bruh.
I distinctly remember being a kid (I was a huge Soulja Boy fan for context) hearing it on the pop station, and pretending to dislike it for about 30 seconds before I had to admit the shit slaps. I haven’t met a soul with a bad thing to say about it.
I feel like I'm taking crazy pills every time someone brings up that stupid song. Everyone seems to love it and it's literally my most hated song of all time. Fantano hasn't disappointed me this much since he put In Birdsong in worst tracks of the week.
@@xx99Username99xx oh don’t get me wrong, I normally detest this style of music. Modern pop country makes me want to vomit now, and it did in 2007 too. But IMO Before He Cheats was executed so well, with such a strong performance, that it overcame the formulaic constraints it was written in for a lot of people. Totally get how someone could hate it tho.
It was pop country. It was just country. Its because carrie sings it that you think its pop@@badtakecentral
@@xx99Username99xxbro before he cheats is your most hated when all my exs live in texas is literally right there. You might actually be taking crazy pills
I’m glad you brought up how Rihanna pronounces umbrella cause before I knew the name of the song I always thought she was saying “under my arm forever”
OMG I THOUGHT THAT'S WHAT SHE WAS SAYING TOO
Real shit though. You cannot deny one of the sickest burns put to music on Irreplaceable though.
I could have another you in a minute,
Matter fact he'll be here in a minute
Its pretty formulaic
Anthony’s impressions of PWT and James Blunt are killing me 😂😂
I worked at a Kohls dept store on high school during this era and every one of these songs played all day long 😅 and then they switched over to '80s new wave and post punk the next year so...
Kohl’s gave me a heart attack the first time they played “Umbrella” with the unabridged Jay-Z rap intro. I’d just never heard anything like that before in a retail big box environment before-plus this is the same company who would later censor several lines from “Hey Soul Sister”.
@@AlligatorArms Yeah I cannot even begin with the uncensored music retail stores play now. Sometimes I just feel like going to Aldi's instead, rather have no music than raunchy over-the-top pop music blaring over the speakers.
@@coolionesy I wish music wasn't so raunchy like everything is about the vagina now
Ah man what a year. I remember This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race being played everywhere as well
Now, I don't know what the hell this song is talking 'bout
Do you?
@@paulagarciallorente
Probably some of the greatest bars ye has produced
Great song
The only FOB song I like tbh
Very scared for next week. This is where Ryan Tedder and his band of misfits in OneRepublic made their year-end debut on Billboard, and I hope that Melon isn't too harsh on them
Same here
I'm predicting he gives Apologize a D. He'll say it's not totally trash but so generic that it's below average. Probably will also say it's some of Timbaland's weaker, more unimpressive production
Yeah, I’ve listened to the song back when I had a onerepublic phase in junior high, and gotta say, I agree with the weak production on it. OG apologize is better imo, but both definitely are pretty inoffensive and strange as far as poprock goes.
Enjoyed that year especially because of LCD‘s Sound of Silver and Arcade Fire‘s Neon bible 🔥
Also Radiohead's In Rainbows
also strawberry jam and return to cookie mountain. what a amazing year for music
@@ffwlpe cookie mountain was 2006, but close enough
2007 is definitely the golden year of indie music.
Nelly Furtado performed over New Years at a music festival went to, I almost didn't see her because of an overlap, but so fucking glad I went to see her, absolutely killed it
Shout out BTV
2007 was seriously the best year for music in my lifetime.
2009 also
I graduated from high school in 2007. They played "Buy U A Drank" twice at my senior prom. Fitting tribute to alcoholic and/or bad parents, cool older siblings, and creepy-loser older boyfriends.
You know, since none of us were of legal age to purchase alcohol in the good ol' US of A. Also of questionable age to be in the bed like oooh, oooh. But c'est la vie.
umbrella in the b tier is insane that’s literally one of the best, most beloved, catchiest & most memorable pop hooks of all time, released 16 years ago and still receives over 1m daily streams on spotify like
Honestly, it's an iconic song.
Overrated
2006/2007 were goated years for top 40 🔥🔥🔥
Irreplaceable is an A tier song idc
Yo FR! That’s one of my fav Beyoncé songs if not my fav tbh… I find the best part is the song writing it’s super good, obviously great vocals but it’s the songwriting+ the emotion of that track you can just FEEL it lol.
IKR
1 thing I wish you would do more in these videos is talk a bit about your history with music in that particular year. You did do that this video at the start and it was quite interesting.
Umbrella and Irreplaceable at the least is A Tier. Very least
Finished the video. Fantano putting Say It Right over Umbrella and Irreplaceable is so hysterical. Sure they're not these two artists' best songs but they're leaps and bounds better than at best D TIER Say It Right. Still love ya Fantano ❤️
You're telling me that the song "Woohoo Yeehoo" by Gwen Stefani was actually called "The Sweet Escape" this whole time? I don't believe you.
Thanks Fantano! Had completely forgotten about Say It Right 🙏
I wish he would’ve streamed him reacting to all of these billboard songs for the tierlists. I’d love to see his first reaction after not listening to a song for long.
He tends to mention when he had to re-listen to a song before talking about it, so it seems like the vast majority of these tracks he just remembers off the top of his head.
oh god thank you for facilitating me having this special moment with hey there delilah this morning. its been a long time and sometimes you just need to quietly and sadly sing some nice lyrics . what an excellent year for pop
Finally someone gave love to Before He Cheats and Say It Right. Those are childhood bops.
If I ever have to hear "Hey There Delilah" one more time in my life I'm gonna *REDACTED*
Glamorous: B
Say It Right: A
I Wanna Love You: B
Hey There Delilah: A
Before He Cheats: S
Buy You A Drank: B
Big Girls Don't Cry: C
Sweet Escape: B
Umbrella: A
Irreplaceable: B
I Wanna Love You is D because i hated the lyrics
Cmon melon, umbrella a classic
Not just in music. But in videogames as well. We got Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Halo 3, The Orange Box, Rock Band, Guitar Hero 3, Bioshock, Super Mario Galaxy, Mass Effect, and so many more.
Neeeeerd
Putting Glamorous, Buy U a Drank, and Potential Breakup Song in SSS tier is the right move Melon
These are your best videos. So great.
PLEASE DO a 90s tier list next!!
Or 11-20 hits of 2000s-2010s
God damn that woo goes high. Anthony has unlimited range
Hey Fantano, big fan here. However I should point out that I noticed a mistake in your video. It looks like you accidentally put Say It Right in the A-tier as opposed to the S-tier. So maybe a re-upload with that fix is necessary
I was so worried what he would say about Say It Right after trashing Promiscuous but he came thru!
welcome to the black parade was number 1 in the uk that year, that track would be an easy s tier if it counted for this list
Great tier list ranking.
More of an albums year for me, so many of my favorite albums ever came out in 2007 (especially in metal) but yeah, some great singles as well.
electric wizard and between the buried and me with amazing records that year
@@ffwlpeYep. Also Devin Townsend, Dillinger escape plan, Kanye West, Amorphis and the list goes on and on...
Well, I work at NPR. We just had mass layoffs. You dodged a bullet, melon.
It's worth noting, I think hey there Delilah was the last 'myspace' song
Say It Right and Before He Cheats are all time greats. Both songs have incredible choruses supported by incredible verses. I give the slight edge to Before He Cheats just because of Carrie's voice, but they are both phenomenal hits.
Yep
2007 is one of the best years for music!!
As far as hit singles go, yeah it's definitely one of the better years. I'm not sure if I would put it in the top 10 of all-time years for music like WatchMojo hit it up there. As far as 2000s go 2004 still remains as the best year for hit songs.
@@zaiah9252I love when y'all mimic fantano 😂 keep it up
i mean, in rainbows, untrue, madvillainy, sound of silver, from here we go sublime, good shit yo
@@lemmmakestunes8312 Alive 2007
Not just music, fantastic year for film and video games too!
I forgot how crazy a year this was for music. Every song is a banger to this day
Honestly 2007 was a solid year for hits! A couple meh songs but the rest are actually really solid tracks I was in 6th grade that year so all these songs bring nostalgia vibes but nostalgia aside I think some of these hits are awesome.
@@smokeyrobinson3199 I was in 7th grade so I feel that!
The guitar in hey there delilah is some ringo level genius picking. less is more melon
Whoa, Anthony was clearly in a great mood that day, because I found these tracks quite "okay" after all
deep down inside Melon is an extreme normie
I really like this series :)
We no forget the disrespect to Promiscuos melon.
It's the song that sold her out
2007 was another freaking banger of a year.
There are so many great memories when I think of 07 there was Kanye's Graduation Album. And of course we can't forget about Fergie, Justin Timberlake, Nelly Furtado, Timbaland, Akon, T-Pain and of course early Rihanna and Beyonce hits.
However in this time frame. I go back and listen to Say It Right, Fergie not so much. Big Girls Dont Cry was played quite heavily. Timbaland was in his bag making his own solo hits as well as JT & Nelly Furtado DAMN. Much love to Timbaland.
Akon & T-Pain are both legends, because they not only make hits for themselves but can make hits for others so yeah their legends for sure.
If I had to pick i would pick Rihanna over Beyonce. I love and respect Queen B. But Riri's music has meant more for me and my youth than Queen B.
I've known for a while that 2007 has some fantastic Indie Rock (Honestly I might say one of the best years for Indie Rock, Although 2004 is a pretty good contender too, And there's some great more recent Indie Music too, Not sure if it clusters into years as much), But I can't say I really knew any of the mainstream stuff (I think "Hey There Delilah" is the only of these I've heard in full before lol), But it's good to know it's pretty good too.
Верни мне мой 2007й, Дыня...

putting irreplaceable on c tier is CRAZY
how do you feel about DOGTOOTH and the possible deluxe album that's coming out friday?
Umbrella at B tier is criminal Anthony
Pain White T’s are going to be headlining my college’s music festival this spring and low key I’m kinda excited to see them even though I’ve never heard a single one of their songs outside of Hey There Delilah.
Also was not expecting melon to enjoy a Carrie Underwood song that much, though it does go hard.
I saw them live at a college like 5 years ago. Was visiting a friend and got dragged into it, but they were actually surprisingly impressive, I'm happy I went
This year so fire
So many more hits from this year that wern’t included. We need an extended breakdown, Melon.
Melon in the Imperial Triumphant tee is taking me there
Thank god you loved Say It Right. Omg I feel seen
The audacity to name the entire tier list after Irreplacable and then put Irreplaceable in the C tier when it’s easily A tier-
Lol facts that’s such a great emotional style track… I love that one from Beyoncé.
Fear of a blank planet by porcupine tree also came out that year
Hey There Delilah? The stalker song?
You used to stalk people on this song? Weird.
@@beaualoevv well if you think 5 dead Russians for every dead Ukrainian is winning then... 🤡
B TIER FOR UMBRELLA!? What you been smokin', Melon...?
It's as obvious an S as ever there was. Cmon, Anthony, you're being contrary for effect and it's obvs bro.
The country song wasn't heard over the radio over here in Europe. At least not that I can remember
I can FEEL me driving around in my 2007 Scion tC watching this video
THIS WAS MY YEAR
Tame Impala’s cover of Nelly Furtado’s “Say It Right” on BBC 1 is a must listen
I didn't expect you loving before he cheats as much as you did but damn you're right, it's so fantastic!
In the UK, school finishes at 16 so “Hey There Delilah, 2 more years and you’ll be done with school” took on a much darker tone there
Before He Cheats was like therapy at my last job where I had to listen to shitty modern country-pop 99% of the time 8 hours a day. Now that song goes on every playlist, rap, metal, rock, whatever
Hey There Delilah was a textbook example of OVERPLAYED. Really not a bad song at all, objectively, but I got *so* sick of hearing it.
Also, I was once being put under for a major surgery and I heard that song playing. Somehow it felt like a sign from God that I would come out of it, because that couldn't possibly be the last song I ever heard in my life.
Very interesting to see these just as Tom Breihan is covering the same period over at Stereogum on Number Ones. Who do trust on Fergie - Fantano or Breihan?
Anthony specifically mentioning he prefers Rude Boy and S&M for Rihanna...two of her dirtiest singles...
Anthony u ain't slick
2007 is irreplaceable as your I Felt Your Shape cover
Very clever of you to put Soulja Boy’s Crank That in the S tier, Melon. He is *INDEED* the first rapper to start his career in 2007
That track is definitely one of the tracks of all time!
Has anyone made a playlist of all of the S’s he’s gave on this series?
thanks for putting in a m0e tv clip i appreciate it
hey there delilah was from 2007??? it feels like it was early 2000s in my memory, like 2003
Imperial triumphant shirt sick yo
Hey There Delilah making B Tier is my Christmas, Birthday and Arbor Day all in one
Buy You a Drank is fucking S tier. T-Pain made such a dope ass beat and that hook is incredible. My fovorite song of 2007.
Irreplaceable in C??? Fantano smokin mids
I do think Rude Boy is RiRi’s best song. But Shut Up and Drive is a close second for me. It’s my fave of her songs from that era. Those breakbeats KILL.
Id say you da one
Wait, wasn't this the paper planes year? "I fly like paper, get high like planes" W year.
