    I stumbled across your channel trying to figure out how to make a coin ring for my wife and am addicted. I have just bought a 6 ton press, reduction dies, and everything from your essential tools video. I have been looking for something to sink my teeth into since the military and you sir sparked an interest I didn't know I had. Thank you.

    This is an awesome video and I'd love to try something similar someday.
    I do have a question on using CA to adhere the sand. We use Acetone to release CA joints in model cars/planes. Will this ring survive brief exposure to similar solvents occasioned upon during daily life?

    • @CoinRingsfromTheMint
      @CoinRingsfromTheMint  2 роки тому +1

      No it won’t. The reason I don’t make these often is because they are so fragile. A ton of people make and sell these types of rings but in my mind they are not an every day wear sort of ring.

    I just discovered you on UA-cam and if like to say thank you for posting these videos. I was in the U.S Navy and had the opportunity to go to Iwo Jima during my service. I have sand from the beach where brave Americans stormed and fought their way to the top of Mount Suribachi. I was wondering if it would be possible to have you make a gold commemorative ring with an inlay using this sand. Maybe use it to make a video or something. Thank you for your consideration

      Thanks for the comment! I don’t make these personally any more. There are a ton of people out there who do the inlays from my blanks though and I can get you in contact with someone though. The reason I don’t personally offer them is because they tend to not last more than a few years before the inlay can crack. But since they are so popular, I make the blanks from gold since there are so few people who can make them.

    Gorgeous work, nice memories, she's fine! Love your content, been following you for years. Question: I found a 10k class ring, tried hard to find the owner to no avail. How can the gold be added to a 18k men's ring? Or any other ides or advice? I also have 6-7 grams of refined gold in an aqua regia batch, should I add it to that? The ring has a ruby.

    • @CoinRingsfromTheMint
      @CoinRingsfromTheMint  2 роки тому

      We can definitely incorporate any gold into a project! I would need the finished metal out of the aqua Regia but it would work! Feel free to contact me through my website www.changeyoucanwear.net and we can sort it out. My number is there also :)

    Do you add Flux to the metal in the spin caster before you melt the metal to help eliminate any impurities?

      Yes adding borax and cleaning it up with a quartz rod is what I do

    Hello, I might have missed it, but what CA adhesive (and accelerator) are you using? I wonder if the viscosity of the glue would make a difference? Have you had much problem with remowing bubbles? Many thanks!\

    • @CoinRingsfromTheMint
      @CoinRingsfromTheMint  6 місяців тому

      I don’t make very many of these but when I do I use thin or extra thin mercury flex ca. when I get bubbles I just cut them open and get more ca in there. It’s not normally a big issue. But I really don’t make these very often at all. I don’t like their durability is the main reason why.

    Beautiful work, what gold do you use for the ring 14k or 18k

    • @CoinRingsfromTheMint
      @CoinRingsfromTheMint  2 роки тому

      This one was 14k. My favorite alloy by a mile is 22k but that’s a bit much for an inlay ring :)

    Beautiful ring. Instead of spending 25 hours with the lost wax process, would it not be easier to cast a solid blank in clay and machine it to shape on the lathe. That would take no longer than a couple of hours?

    • @CoinRingsfromTheMint
      @CoinRingsfromTheMint  2 роки тому

      The casting process only takes a few minutes honestly. Loosing hundreds of dollars on lathing gold would be not very good. The oven takes the time but I put castings in at the end of the day and they come out ready to go in the morning. It’s a way more efficient process and I don’t loose gold.

    • @flyingmonkeys9774
      @flyingmonkeys9774 2 роки тому

      @@CoinRingsfromTheMint I use my lathe for ring shaping and channel cutting all the time. The lathe is encased on three sides by a box to catch all the shavings. I then vacuum the shaving up with a small hand vac. Nothing lost. There's always more than one way to do things though :)
