It was awesome meeting you at the fuel station this past week. Really changed my Outlook on moving out to Oklahoma. I've been practicing everyday since. You're info that you put out helps more people then you could ever imagine.
Love your videos bro keep em coming , Been a rig welder for a long time I work most of the time on contract I prefer making my own rates but split and being an employee is nice as well it is a lot less stress that way, contract can be hard to get paid at times
thank you really , i am focused on doing this in the future and i really do appreciate this video , i am a sophomore in high school right now and this information is very worthy
Good content Ross, did not watch because I already know but it's good to know you have your truck under your own company name or tax #. It's nice to have the ability to write certain expenses off.
having been both, being an employee is about the easiest thing in the world. however the flexibility of writing your name on the front of the check is pretty cool.
I guess im asking the wrong place but does any of you know a method to get back into an Instagram account..? I was stupid forgot my password. I would appreciate any tips you can give me
@William Madden thanks for your reply. I got to the site through google and im in the hacking process atm. I see it takes a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
If it came to pipeline I would like to be an employee. Either way if you’re a contract welder or employee you still have to hustle for your work. As an employee it’s nice having consumables covered because that’s less stuff you have to carry around from job to job
@@sbranham86 Yeah same here. Was looking at used Rangers n Bobcats, mostly worn out well used machines gig for $3grand or more. For less $ I bought a 1966 Redface: ) Love the sound of that Jeep engine
As a tire guy that broke out into being his own boss, and recently started doing mobile welding work, I never want to be someone’s employee ever again.
You don’t buy everything right then and there. You buy tools as you go along. Some tools are worth having and some aren’t. I’d rather have all my tools than using or asking other hands for this specific tool.
Owner. Cause now a days you can't deduct what you could before trump on split check. Alot of contract jobs I go on and rigs they will supply consumables if they don't no big deal. My welding supply gives me good deals and if they have something I need for 1 day (plasma for example) they will let me grab it and demo it for the day. It's always good to have contacts
nice video and lots of info - here is my take away and question as a contractor straight pay - arm - $50/hr, rig $15/hr, $65 - hr total - deduct helper rates - (estimate -$20/hr) , business cost per hour using 60 hr weeks equipment costs - rig , truck, ins, fuel -$8 (using $1400/mo ) , taxes - $5 - take home - =65-20-13=$32*240 (4 weeks 60 avg wk) = $7500/month ($2k/wk welder helper $1200/wk) - i am not taking into account PD because too many variables for this calculation... - does this seem the correct math - roughly -
I'm in a completely different profession where I'm a Forman I'll have a chance to become the boss if I stay in it because it's a family business. I said all that to say this I love the idea of being my own boss it's great you get to make your own schedule. But it also sucks when your doing a job that takes 3 weeks and you have to pay fuel and your guys the whole time before you get your check. It's a whole lot nicer to get off on Friday with a check in your hand and go home and not worry about what your going to do if a machine or truck breaks down Monday morning but it's also nice to have an opportunity to make a huge amount of money if you grind and put in the hours. That's just my opinion on it
Thanks for promoting our industry. The job you have has structure, content, meaning and power, pay but also on goin education. We have a shortage of welders in the Midwest. You should team up with some contractors on y.t. to promote good meaningful work. Nice vid my man.
My son is graduating HS in May, took a welding class in High School. Loves it and wants to get into welding. Will companies in the mid-west hire him and train him too? Thanks.
Split check is way easier! You don’t have to worry about putting money back to pay taxes in April. On top of that, you don’t pay taxes on per diem and rig pay if it’s under $18 an hour.
AnthonyLA 310 unions are the way to go regardless of age. Getting in the Union, especially a union as strong as the UA, while you're young and staying for 30, 35, even 40 years provides one hell of a pension and medical care for retirement. If you are lucky and or persistent enough to get into one of the building trades unions you should stay until the day you retire. Nothing says you have to stay as an hourly worker, you could become a union contractor and do your own thing that way. Either way union is the way to go.
I don't have any real experience in owning a company aside from side work. However I enjoy being an employee. I may not make more but I stay local to home and I don't ever have to worry about anything besides passing X-ray! Not bad if you ask me.
Hello Ross I'm starting this year my rig welding experience..I have 10 years of experience a welder..I plan on getting a V8 4x4 truck..what do you recommend me ...to get a better for in field area
Im about to join 601 out of Milwaukee. I eventually want my own rig and a camper (probably 30' or so). I was wondering if you need your class A CDL with that beautiful Dodge and Camper, or if you can get by without one? Thanks and god bless!
I'm currently trying to set up a rig. its a Chevrolet 2500 single cab with a 9 foot flat bed. got 2 boxes on it. want to throw on a machine, oxy fuel tanks, and get my own rig welding tools (sumners, beveling machines, have a lot of hand tools, been in a shop for 4 years doing dual shield) how can I get on without this shop? I would even start as a helper, just because there's still a bit to learn being in the field.
whats the best insurance company for rig welders?? every company i have talked to refuses to give me coverage beacuse this line of work is "high risk". help me out yall, id appreciate it!
How could it not have enough amps when it has 250 at 100% duty cycle and the sa 200 only has 200 at half the duty cycle? Just tryin to understand is all thanks for the info
Unfortunately they are not selling books right now. Work has been slower this year. But that’s how, putting in an app but it helps if you know someone that can give you a good reference.
