Looks like that. After catamaran racing for example in Kiel there are many of them floating dead in the water and if you have a small nose dive you have a slimy mass on your trampoline. But sometimes the ventilations of the foils look similar.
@@hannorasmusholtiegel6044 I competed many times at Kieler Woche. Originally I come from Austria but I live all over the place. Now I have bought myself a 82 feet sailing ship in the Netherlands. Guess that's the next chapter of my life. Why you are asking?
Sam says...."It’s like a Formula 1 car vs a Ford Focus. A Moth is the forefront of sailing technology, fully carbon fibre with components designed and engineered to allow the boat to be as fast as possible, regardless of cost. A Waszp is more like a Ford Focus, aimed to bring foiling to the masses on a proven platform made with common materials such as fibreglass and aluminium. It is also aimed to be easy to foil for many people who otherwise might struggle whereas a moth can be more difficult to sail. As a result a Waszp is heavier (and therefore slower) but is way under half the cost of a new Moth."
I am sure the Moths are state of the art. But what I am curious about is what aspects of the design make it so much faster: foils, sails, weight, controls to shape the sail, etc. maybe all of the above and more.@@RYA1875
@@bkbateman From Sam "The foils are a lot more refined and are a lot less draggy. The rig is way more aerodynamic and the whole Moth platform is designed for speed in mind so the rig is a lot lower and you can produce more righting moment. More righting moment = faster. The Moth also weighs about half as much as the Waszp."
Sailed a moth back in the '80s.....what difference now, it's like they're flying ....I bet crew weight is as important as in horeseracing! As an old fat bastard I'll stick to my old gaff cutter!
Hi im Ukrainian sailor, im 15 and I really want to try WASZP!! But unfortunately we dont have this boat in our country 😢. Maybe some volunteers or rich sailors can afford to bring this amazing boats in Ukraine? Pls like ❤to help see this more people!!
This type of vehicle, would be interesting to see done in primitive technology. None of that CF or any plastic polluting composites. Done as less polluting as possible, using natural fibers, natural materials. Would love to see a challenge for engineers to make such a hydrofoil vehicle, able to be done without an industrial shop and fancy modern materials, but upgrading the old shipbuilding techniques with modern knowhow.
and the farking music.....jfc.......what is with the euros and having always to have blaring euro trash electronica on every single freaking video. So old and tired.
That looks amazing... They need to try again on a windier day!
Fab Skilled Fun ! Thanks 🤓👍💥
I sail here every week+my best friend comes here every day
So the wasp sail trim systems are basically the same as a winfsurf sail?
What’s the difference between a moth wasp and skeeta ?
Wow!!! And I thought I was the shitz in my first lil' Sunfish on the Gulf Coast!
Which 360 camera did you have on the front of the moth?
Garmin VIRB 360!
Was that a jellyfish he chopped up at 1:06?

What makes the moth faster?
It's lighter iirc

I thought the wazup was a moth or design of one

I’m surprised nobody has designed the extensions in fiberglass composite like aircraft wings to create a bit of lift.
Nowhere near enough speed or area to offset the extra weight
The newer moths have carbon “wings” but they do not produce lift in any way. Just for better aero.
Sam's back, this time at the Waszp Nationals in Rutland ua-cam.com/video/amdqBN_xGe8/v-deo.html

this video is only 2yo and beat racing is not on app store :(
Would be better without the silly background music.
Stop allready with all that slow-mo footage. You did it once, twice.....let us get a feel of the speed etc...

Godawful Music
The one guys yellow booties look like ballet flats. Why are british people always closet transvestites lol. Jk
