    A little about Ed….
    Ed is an elite cyclist, 2019 British Hill Climb Champion and former Under 23 British RR Champion. He has raced as a Continental level Professional Rider for one of the most successful British cycling teams in Japan, Korea, Australia, Canada, Azerbaijan to name a few. He is also a public speaker, coach, and founded the on/offline cycling community, Backpedal. At the start of 2021, the Discord community began, and plonked many of Ed's viewers in to a 550+ strong group of people that had many things in common. Not least wanting to explore the world and pedal their bikes faster!
    Ed coaches lots of cyclists in the online community too! If you are interested, email [laverackcoaching@yahoo.com] for information on the 1-2-1 coaching package and training plans, of which there are many and flexible options to suit everyone!
    Ed now prioritises having fun with my hard earned fitness and knowledge in the sport. Showcasing that maybe there is an alternative to racing for teams when you can race for yourself and your community of followers and brands. This UA-cam channel is a docu-series highlighting what it’s like to be a cyclist in today’s competitive age of sport.

    congrats on the 20k, I was there yesterday, suffering with everyone else, but also enjoying the whole event, organisation and friendly participants. Think you captured a lot of the changes of scenery and road types to give a good reflection of the event.

    I'd love to try something like this near me in Leicester. It's considered a flat county but when you're cycling around there's barely any flat. Always up or down, and usually quite sharply. Finding the most brutal 100km would be sick.

    10k quid for a bike 1kg heavier compared to Andrew Feather's bike. I still remember a video of yours when you were counting the grams of a teaspoon of jam. But you are not counting the extra kg of disc brakes. At your level 1kg of bike makes the difference between winning and being in top5 . there is no reason to use disc brakes on a pure climbing bike or on a TT bike.if performance is the goal, rim brakes are the solution. If the goal is selling expensice bikes, disc brakes are the way forward

      First of all Ed I have to say I really enjoy your videos and appreciate your work. otherwise, I would not be here. But coming back to the topic, you could win any road race on a MTB. But this not prove a MTB is the best choice for a road race. Before any race what we do as cyclists is to maximize the chances of success. that is why we train hard, optimize nutrition, recovery etc.. and we optimize the bike. We chose the bike which is most suitable to win. For a hill race the only thing that matters is the weight of the bike. You do not use the front derailleur, you take it off, you do not use two chainrings, you take one off, you do not use brakes, you put the lightest brakes out there, etc... You could win with a heavier bike, but why lower your chances of success? Because you get a free bike. If that is a good enough reason to make it harder on yourself, your choice. But we got to a point where a decent bike costs as much as a kidney, is less durable, much more difficult and expensive to maintain. The bike industry does not allow the option for affordable and durable bikes, making cycling an elitist sport, where only dentists, lawyers and sponsored athletes afford a new bike. And they do this with the help of sponsored athletes like you. If someone wants to start cycling and does not know much about bikes and follows a channel like yours, he will try to get himself a 10k E bike, because that is what his idol rides. And so the bike industry makes a huge profit selling a piece of carbon made in china which is praised by all youtubers, influencers etc... And this is not what cycling is about. Cycling should be a sport for the masses, accommodating everyone. @@edlaverack

    • @edlaverack
      @edlaverack  Рік тому +5

      What you were trying to say in the first message though was that it is not possible to win on a bike that is heavier than bikes that other people ride. Which obviously isn't true and I've proved it. In your second message, I may be wrong, but I think you are trying to say that I am a sell-out by riding bike from a brand that many people see as their "once in a lifetime bike." Of course these bikes are highly priced, people know this, common sense will also tell you that most people (like me) start on a borrowed 1983 Peugeot road bike, before buying a second hand bike, learning about bikes and then slowly moving up the ladder...but of course there will always be people that jump all the way to the high end bikes, that's just the way it is with iPhones, people want to buy the latest £600 model. I don't know how many times I have to say it, but I do not just do hill climbing or go for strava KOMs, I ride my bike through all sorts! I am nothing but transparent, honest and extremely grounded in the roots of this sport, elitist doesn't come anywhere near it, I host weekend rides for the local riders and have done for 8 years, I'm heavily involved in my local community. From the very start of this channel, racing as a "Pro" on a UK team and building a community and business around the idea that potentially any young rider can decide to take an alternative path now to getting to a place where I am fortunate enough to be working with brands and riding equipment that I enjoy riding and pushing myself.
      Sadly there are channels out there that are literally telling you "this is the best bike, this is the best equipment, sponsored post this, sponsored that." And yet here I am just going through the process on a daily basis with videos that are generally quite low quality, not clickbait, not in your face saying you need to buy this NOW or you are not worthy and importantly this UA-cam channel is not my "job" so I don't have to force things on you to please contracts and get money...I am literally just riding my bike, sharing the journey hoping that someone will either be inspired, improve their cycling, find something funny or enter an event for the first time. There is no agenda. @@danalmasan
