Carol Channing on the Tonight Show (With Joan Rivers as Host)

Here's two late greats...Carol Channing (Dressed as Minnie Mouse for some reason) on a Tonight Show episode when Joan Rivers was hosting. Part of the interview is included, as well as Carol singing an inspiring tune for our troubled times..."Tap Your Troubles Away" (if only we could...)

The thing about Carol is she is utterly unique. That look, those huge eyes, the blonde hair, and then that undescribable hoarse voice with that slight southern drawl. You can't take your eyes off her. Like her or hate her, you just can't ignore her.

This was before Jerry's Girls, but she might have worn it in that show. She often recycled outfits. Meanwhile, this was actually The Tonight Show, and Joan was subbing for Johnny. I know because that's me on the piano... choreography by the great Honi Coles.

The song is from Jerry Herman's Broadway show"Mack and Mable". I think Carol did this number on her "Sugar Babies" tour with Robert Morse. The tour failed. It was the same title " Sugar Babies" but not the same show without Anne Miller and Mickey Rooney. I loved Carol and saw her in concert and on Broadway.
