So really just put up flak and watch as they expand their missiles and lose raiders, while you are still shooting at them broadside. Once their missiles are expended, counterattack.
Honestly I find that with modern basestars they play more similar to a cratus than an argos, you wanna close the gap with your ftl jump and combine your two instant reload munition slots with hacking and overwhelming fighters. The way they are shown in the tv show, combined with the lack of guns, makes most people try to play long range, but ironically you want to do the opposite and charge in immediately. Its basically a cratus with a phobos FTL jump, and cerberus worth of squadrons in the pocket. Jump in turn 1 and unleash missiles, fighters, and hacking to just bury fleets, and jump away and recall when they get too beat up. Then repeat once hull repair is good enough.
For balance there should be 2 flak modes. One only with the PDS that would be overwhelmed more easily but allowed to fire the main guns through it and one that was like the actual but disabled the main guns for ship to ship combat focusing them por flak (like the Galactica does in the show everytime it's cornered)
some of my favourite fleets involve using the minerva to spam missiles, flak and fighters all at once. and close in for the kill when the main threats are neutralized. so versatile these buggers.
Maybe if you gave them prototype raiders and an emp or something. With Even Cluster nukes and Modern raiders, it's possible to beat them with just 3 Valkyries. It *Might* be possible with two but definitely not one. In fact it took me a few tries to do it with 3, as the raiders would overwhelm my ships until I took advantage of the stupid ai and the cylon nukes. Edit: You can definitely do it easily with two, I just did. Though I still doubt it's possible with one.
@@croaker260 It significantly damages civilian ships and will eventually destroy them, as Daniel L said. This especially is true in the Anabasis game mode. You might think that flakking civilian ships would protect them from incoming munition barrages, but in fact, you'll end up killing the civilians you are trying to protect.
take away the light guns and replace them with 1 1/2 times as many heavy guns, with a flak field to make the Jupiter mk2 proud, and you've got the Valkyrie class
This is one of my favourite musical tracks from the game.
It’s all ‘bout that Skirmish #3, man!

Jup, on their own the modern basestars are laughably easy to counter

@@Airwolf-lm9cm There's a reason the galactica was able to last so long against them.
Perfect cinematic!
Is there a way for your fighters NOT to fly into your flak?
You can send them away to attack or defend something else, other than that not really.
Tbh you can easily win with only 1 Valkyrie.
Almost impossible with 1 valkyrie , you might win 1 with many tries but easily, hell no.
You'd get swarmed by raiders, unless you purposefully gimped thier strike loadout.

Does flak damage capital ships?
In the first versions of the game it didn't but after a patch it does minimal damage but over time It can destroy a ship.
@@daniell89 Thanks!!!

Debris mines also damage capital ships (and the civilian ships of course as well)
So is the Valkyrie just a reskinned and slightly improved Adamant?
No he’s using them wrong. It’s like a small art. The best guns are on the top.

The underbelly of the Valkyrie is the weakest part
The only thing I don’t like about this game is its turn based well not turn based but I wish it was like gothic armada
IMHO the worst thing about it is the fact that you can't roll the ships (e.g. uspside down)
