Exactly my observation.
You're spot on with the lyrics interpretation. The second half of the song is conversation between your soul and physical body(clay pot). The river basically refers "world" (which is the boundary between life and death). The soul desperately wants to meet the beloved (God) living on the other side of the river. But the physical body is stopping the soul that my structure is week (my sinful body is not worthy of meeting God). But the soul still goes on the clay pot (physical body) and ultimately drowns in the river.
The message in this song represents Sanatan dharm message.

The clay pot is a romantic love story. The girl was married but she fell in love with a guy who used to live across river, the girl started making clay pots (that can float) but her sister in law saw her doing it and got to know why she’s making these pots.
Her sister in law replaced the baked clay pots with soft clay pots which when put on river dissolves in water. The part where it says that clay pot will dissolve is actually the clay pot telling the girl to not use them because they are not ready to stay afloat

You are spot on - the song carries a couple of meanings. Sawal - which means question - is the call and Kande Utte is the response. It can be taken as someone waiting for their dear one and the dear one came to the river and couldn't cross. This can also be interpreted as the human "clay pot" is too soft to make it in the "river of existence".

The clay pot is refered to a folk love story of Sohni and Mahiwal. Sohni used to sit on the clay pot and cross the river to meet Mahiwal. One day Sohni close relative deliberately put a vessel of unbaked clay for her. When Sohni was crossing the river with the pot, it broke down in the middle of river and Sohni was drowned and killed. Hey Cojak, the second part is about a folklore love story. She wanted to meet her lover. But there was a river between them to cross. she had a clay pot but it was not baked in on Oven (details are in SALAL Abid's comment). She wanted to cross the river by riding on that clay pot but it sank with that lady as clay pot was not hardened in oven and was not ready for floating.

Weak clay pot is both literal and metaphorical. Literal in the folk story sense (the story of Sohni and Mahiwal), metaphorical in the sense of our temporary existence
A clay pot does serve perfectly without any mistake, consistent, pure heart, it's like it is made to serve one thing, and in Islam, it is our duty to serve the Almighty Allah and he must be loved by humans to get his blessings in this life, it's a test anyway, and we have free will whether we choose good or bad bath.

Clay pot's context in this song is the folklore "Sohni Mahiwal". Sohni, daughter of a potter tried floating towards the other bank of the river, on a dark and stormy night, with the help of a clay pot which was not fully dry and ready, to meet her lover Mahiwal. Sohni drowns during this and Mahiwal thinking she had forsaken him, commits suicide.

Kande Uttey means , Standing at the Shore of River (In Urdu we call that Corner "Kanda") , In Essence , its a Sufi Interpretation of Life , where everything is taken as a metaphore to explain some deeper meaning , so the idea is , that this Clay Life we have (Our Body) is crossing the River of Life and if you are purposeless then you dont know where you are going , but if you have a Lover on the other end , you have longing to cross the River and meet him - This is an extrapolation of a Folk Lure in Sub content also

This song is about futility of this world. Though its not leading to paradise/hell. It denotes also to a very famous folklore of punjab, a girl drowned by taking the risk of swimming into a river by a raw claypot. The claypot was raw, she knew but she couldnt wait to meet him so she jumped into river n she drowned. Her lover when saw her drowning gave up his life too. 2 lives go in vain. No one knows the answers. This is whole song.
What Moazzam was singing was the folk story about Sohni and Mahival and the clay pot was she using to go to other side of river to see her beloved Mahival and so on

This was an experiment by Rohail Hayat and for me it clicked but somehow some law or any legal thing happened and Rohail Hayat was dropped from Coke studio and all the songs were reposted from his channel and removed from Coke Studio channel

Do not try to understand lyrics literally but it is all symbolic language where it appears that lyrics are about a boy and a girl but in fact it is a conversation of a person with his GOD (ALLAH).
