    I think you forgot one acrobatic element:
    *Colussi* - Free aerial cartwheel from cross position.
    *Difficulty*: E. Named for Silvia Colussi Pelaez (ESP), who performed it at the 2013 World Championships.

    I hate the tucked side salto, LOL. I get that it's difficult and takes a lot of skill but it just looks so awkward and ungainly to me.

      Same. The first time I saw it, I was like: Ugh, was she supposed to do this or is it gonna be a deduction?
      It looks so ugly and not like an really skill.

    tbh no offense but i think deng linlin does the layout 1/1 better…just puttin it out there, there weren't so many chinese gymnasts in this video (only 2 i think) aren't they the beam dominators?

      Kyle Ma because this channel loves US gymnastics, i´m pretty sure the chinese gymnast who appear in the video are just because only they execute the element.

    A jump forward with half twist and Grigoras are exactly the same. I have watched both of them like 20 times and I just cannot see any difference.

    • @madelinehornsey6845
      @madelinehornsey6845 8 років тому +6

      The difference is the way you gain the power. In the jump forward, notice her legs as compared to Sui Lu's Grigoras. She gains her power from the jump - notice how much farther she moves laterally - moving into the salto and twisting later on. But Sui Lu gets all of her power from the punch and moves directly into the salto, making it a more difficult move. I don't know how to explain really but there is a difference :)

      Without meaning to denigrate their incredible contributions to gymnastics, the skills they were doing back then just were not anywhere near as difficult as top skills being done today, so none of their skills would be included.

    • @elizabethmcqueen321
      @elizabethmcqueen321 8 років тому

      they may have just not used her clip because it's old and hard to see and would be pretty blurry in slow motion, pretty much all the clips on there are newer and easy to see how the skill is done, I don't believe this video was to brag on certain gymnasts but rather to educate people on the difficulty level of different skills and that would be difficult to demonstrate with old 70s film :)

  • @meilinwu1731
    @meilinwu1731 9 років тому

    Can someone please explain what the difference is between the Grigoras and the move at 3:51?

    • @austinsing1711
      @austinsing1711 8 років тому

      +Meilin Wu The Grigoras is harder because the twist happens when the body is vertical with the beam and the other move is not because it twist earlier which makes it easier to see the beam faster.

    So the higher the alphabet the harder the skill.. It seemed that Rio2016 everyone on beam except for Netherlands did the exact same skills. Did everyone have to do the same skill or what ever they choose? It seems these older clips showed gymnastics that took risks!? Just asking

    • @chercher304

      u are right gymnastics used to be so great to watch because of the artistic element where gymnasts used to be creative now its utter bullshit

    • @xxSennaxx
      @xxSennaxx 8 років тому +1

      For the D elements, probably some of them are more easily taught/learned than others, so you'll some that are a lot more common. Also connection bonuses are a big thing, so they'll want to learn D, C etc elements that can be feasibly constructed in connection. Of course the much higher difficulty ones are rare to see because they are, well, hard.
      I do miss the rulfova though.... the Chinese did it a lot around and before 2008, but for some reason they've stopped including it in their routines.

    • @azaefe
      @azaefe 8 років тому +2

      +xxSennaxx A front tuck seems easier and is worth the same. So why risk with the rulfova. I bet that's what they think.

      goodyougetastar I know right? Why is that one an E?

    • @goodyougetastar
      @goodyougetastar 9 років тому

      Ahaha yeah, it's a little strange. But I think it's because the Grigoras has a bit more sideways action? Idk, that's just a guess. :))

    • @matthewhines9787
      @matthewhines9787 9 років тому +1

      +TheGymSavant The logic is that because the turn occurs so early, the gymnast has more time to spot the beam. I suppose I can understand since the Grigoras is supposed to be downgraded if the twist happens before vertical.

    I'm confused. I know the pike front is by no means easy but Im surprised thats an E and the 1/1 back swing down (which no one ever does!) is only a D...Also I feel like the Teza should be an F or a G....aint nobody trying that these days (or ever). It needs to be higher value to encourage girls to do it, in place of these C-C-B-D combos.

    • @austinsing1711
      @austinsing1711 8 років тому

      +D Lane The judges are not trying to encourage those type of skills thats why.

    • @shushunovafan4301
      @shushunovafan4301 7 років тому

      Front pike needs good power to pull round on top of being a blind landing which is a big deal especially on beam. E is pretty fair imo. Not many girls do it anyway, unlike front aerials and tuck fronts.
