You realized the MC is a hermit crab but did you notice how well that works on a story level? The crab didn’t know what was going on with everyone below the waves because he’s a literal hermit.
"A shell? That's more of a snail thing!"
*starts typing*
"Oh he's a hermit crab!"
*deletes comment*
I did the same thing lol
I was 5 seconds from typing "can't believe james forgot what a hermit crab was" lmao
I did it too. Literally a second before he did.
Same
same
The creators saw the sad but true fact about hermit crabs living in human garbage instead of shells and made a game about it, props to them.
the fact that he switches out his shell a lot is actually pretty accurate. the shells they use are actually from dead snails, so they don't grow with the crab, so when the crab grows bigger, it has to find a new slightly bigger shell. hermit crabs have even been known to form lines from biggest to smallest and trade shells down the line
It's also very realistic how hermit crabs have started to use litter as protection with an overall shortage of viable shells due to humans collecting them
"Nitro Ramble" is such a good name. Hopefully, we can see some more rambles in the future. (Lunistice, maybe?)
I'm prolly gonna include Lunistice in the next Indie Platformers vid, that game is cool as hell
@@NitroRad I don't think I've seen one that has a vibe like this since...SnakePass? I like it. Nicely done.
@@NitroRad because of your raddest games 2022 video it became my comfort game
That one's good for a more unfocused vid, but it he gets SERIOUSLY pissed at a game...
Nitro Rants.
Yo dude the turnaround is INSANE. Nitrorad fans eatin GOOD this week!
And so is Nitrorad 😆
I was thinking the same thing. 😅
I know right? Very exciting
6:54 it’s like one line in the whole game, but leveling up is actually described as the opposite - you’re **purging** microplastics from your body to get stronger!
You're allowed to make more Nitro Rambles as long as you keep flailing your arms around like at the end of the video
I second this
I third this
You had me at ‘crab Soulslike’.
You had me again at ‘you can give Krill a gun’.
Wait until you find out you can give it cosmetics to wear on top of the shells. My favorites are legally distinct Mr. Krab, Lamb from Cult of the Lamb, and a maid outfit.
Honorable mention to the Among Us crewmate plushie shell that can only be purchased, however you eventually unlock the ability to leave Moonlight Shells (i.e. the game's bonfires) with any shell of your choice from among ones you've purchased or equipped throughout the game.
@@diegosaez4885 Well now you’ve triple sold me!
Afaik, there is also a Forsburn (from Rivals of Æther) cosmetic
The gun can also be attached to your melee weapon to hit people with.
Hello Jill stingray
Giant enemy crab.
>Pagurus would like to know your location.
* beatboxes *
*legally distinct Pokémon battle music plays*
they straight-up make that joke in game -- the upgrade that allows you to critical strike enemies when their poise is broken instructs you to "attack the weak point for massive damage." Aggro Crab's sense of humor in its games is wild
It's crazy that the meme is almost 20 years old now and it's still brought up regularly even in real games. That's more than what can be said about All Your Base which is only slightly older and left a much bigger splash back in the day but I haven't seen it mentioned in ages.
A lot of Crustaceans are some of my favorite animals so this game was a must buy for me. I’m actually having a lot of fun with it
there's a part where you fight a big Mantis Shrimp and he throws flurries of punches at ya, it's so freakin sick
My favorite voice in the game, but everyone else if great too@@NitroRad
James rambling about stuff he likes is my favorite rad genre
Nope its not 😊 kinda annoying actually
James Sunderland
I saw a friend playing this the other day because it's on Gamepass both on PC and Xbox, I laughed a lot when be died because they made a pun in Spanish putting "Descanse en pez"(Rest in Fish) instead of "Descanse en paz" (Rest in Piece), so good points to Aggro Crab games for the translation lmao.
I love how much this video has the vibes of a guy you know being like "DUDE you have to check this out", your enthusiasm is infectious.
Nope! It's not 😊 kinda annoying actually
bruh I was like how have you never heard of a hermit crab? lol. you eventually got there.
I thought the same thing. To be fair, they named him "Krill." It's like naming a cat "Dog."
Only real OGs know what your PFP is.
Respect, and don't go listening to any Lovecraftian tree squids.
@@ZigealFaust ayy glad to see not everyone forgot about this gem of a series. supposedly the people that bought the rights "want to do something with it" but who knows.
I see that Sybil plush.
Thankfully not in a jar

I love the implication that James never checks his e-mails, unless he's looking for game keys. Glad to know that other people hate e-mails as much as I do.
Better than phone calls or worse, voicemails
The mental image of a crab walking up to Nitro Rad and going "Hey James... I'm the one." is so funny.
Also, love this game's visual style~. Love cartoony stuff like this.
I feel like this is the kind of review every game maker wants. Someone so in love with your game they can’t say all the words they want say fast enough.
Kinda annoying actually 😊
I love how you flipflop between your "analysis and reading" mode of voice and your "soulja boy excitedly showing you braid" mode of voice
Ironic how souls games feel like you are underwater, but the one where you are actually underwater isn't painfully slow.
It's kinda easy to forget that marine life are so much more agile in water than we give them credit for
Also, I found in the game that you can have a tennis ball chair foot thingy (you know, the feet of chairs in elementary school had tennis balls at some point, I don't know if they still do that) as your shell. Its ability is to use it for fast movement or ramming into enemies. I found it very useful for jumping over large pools of pollution in the mining area. Very fun and satisfying movement options this game has.
Only Dark Souls 2 feels lile that
Wait, these are the devs who made Going Under! I love that game tbh, it’s well written and a rly fun rogue like, which is lightning in a bottle imo. Nothing else like it that I’ve ever played. Nice to see their next game getting a positive reception
I'm glad to see someone else that liked Going Under! That game is really underappreciated. I'm also glad to see Another Crab's Treasure get some buzz from people too
Yeah! Through the footage you can even see some fizzle logos on the cans!
@@LakituAlalso there is literally a shell called going under 64
The fact that this colorful and cartoony romp got a T-Rating reminds me of all those T-Rated kids games from the 6th gen like the Incredibles Tie-in game or Smash Melee
Tom & Jerry and early era rachet & clank as well
It’s likely the Mario cigarettes meant to stand in as Marlboro.
Too much for E but the E10 rating doesn't exist yet, time to give Tom and Jerry a T rating
And it's pretty odd really that just going from N64 to GC graphics was enough for the cartoon violence of smash to become too intense for children. As a kid I always figured Melee had some harder edge I wasn't aware of, but nope, it's basically the same level of violence as the 64 original
Reminds me of when Kirby 64 got a Nintendo switch port, and it was flagged for “blood and violence”
This review felt like talking with a friend obssesed with a new game but he just wont shut up and seems so happy and you feel happy about them having so much fun, 10/10 please do this again
Nope! Please don't 😊 pretty annoying actually
A giant enemy crab, you say? I hear you can attack it's weak point for massive damage.
man the nitro ramble formats great, please keep doing these extra vids!! down to earth james in the nitro rad styles super fun lol
Nope! 😊 Kinda annoying actually
@@nolancho shit guess im wrong then. fuckkk.
*format's. *down-to-earth. *style's.
yes.
YES. The Crab Game.
The Crab Game is MIIIINE!
I just love it when developers clearly define design pillars and stick to them until a gem comes out.
you absolutely SHOULD have a nitroramble subseries. your passion for shit is infectious man.
His passion is an infectious man? How can his passion be a man?
Never I'd imagine that someone will make a Souls Like game. Where you play as a cute little hermit crab, and created this creative world under the ocean. Definitely gonna give this game a try.
Krill is a hermit crab. They're the only kind of "crab" that wears a shell like that. As they are actually their own whole family even if they are related to crabs.
4:35
@@ThaBotmon Yes I watched the video. I am allowed to confirm his realization that Krill is a hermit crab and then provide additional information that hermit crabs aren't actually crabs.
@@Jasonwolf1495 Well jokes on you as well as everyone else commenting about this, he may have not realized this fact immediately, but UA-cam does not care what the comments are about, just that there are comments and *lots of them* too. This boosts engagement which favors the algorithm which puts this video in people's recommended which generates *more* comments about this then the cycle continues indefinitely
@@hudde814 It's not infinite, there's a fall-off period. The older a video is, the less likely yt is likely to recommend it. Sometimes it will recommend videos with almost no views over other videos with a lot more just because of when the videos were made.
i hope you do more of these, one of my favorite "genres" of youtube videos is "person played game they liked a decent bit and now they want to ramble about it for 30 minutes" and your enjoyment is definitely infectious, makes me wanna give this game a shot as my darksouls gateway drug
4:36 I was about to say Nitrorad this isn't a Ty situation now come on people in Canada would know what a hermit crab is lol
I quite like the name "Nitro Ramble" really sells what the video is (in the best way possible)
Absolutely great just hearing you talk about something you are clearly excited about!
That outro caught me off guard in probably the best way possible like goddamn never change mate
So glad you decided to talk about this one. I've never been a fan of Soulslikes but this one is the brighter take that I've been hoping for
Nitro Ramble sounds really good for a series of unscripted ramblings
also i love that James explaining the game just sounds like an insane man
love your content man so great to see you more often,
Its like sitting down with you bud and freaking out about games with your best bud.
Nope it wasn't 😊 pretty stupid and annoying actually
Now we need a Nitro and Brady ramble ensemble.
My dude, this format of informal rambling is simply PERFECT lol. I'm used to your more formal and organized scripts with the occassional humor, and just the earnest vibes you give off in general (your Startropics video was amazing by the way). It is so nice to see a more consistently off-the-wall side to your videos, I can tell you really love this game and I can feel the love too! DEFINITELY do more of these 'rambles' stuff (I love splitting my sides with humor every now and again), and if I could subscribe twice I'd do it again.
Nope! It's not 😊 pretty annoying actually
Can I just say I love the way Nitro Rad just drops completely random comparisons to games all the time, like Bloodborne to Mario 64, or like bringing up Silent Hill for the crab game. It always catches me off-guard but it's such a fun way to make things easier to understand.
Also wow what a coincidence, literally just yesterday I saw a vtuber streaming this game and I had no clue what it was. She was in the middle of that cereal box cutscene too and I was just like ??? so I went to watch something else. It's great seeing this video come out just today though cause now I finally have some context as to what this strange game is.
Honestly I might not have guessed this video wasn't scripted if you hadn't admitted it. You are structured enough that i can hardly tell the difference. I would love more of these!
I could FEEL this video coming. It's a NitroRad-core game, and I think it's me-core too.
I'm super happy Another Crab's Treasure is so well received. Going Under is one of my favorite roguelites so I've been hoping for them to get their big break
Love the Ramble format! Hope to see more videos like this!
Nope! 😊 Pretty stupid actually
Love your usual videos with all your quality editing.
BUT, I also really like these more freestyle review/looks at these other games. Gives me my dose of NitroRad and you (theorhetically) cover more games.
I wouldn't mind if this was a norm; Nitroramble is such a fun title idea!
Anyways, keep up the amazing work!!
I gotta say, I like that other devs are taking the idea of allowing tweaks to the Soulslike formula to customize your experience. One thing I loved about Jedi: Fallen Order (another good candidate for "baby's first Soulslike") is that you can tweak individual aspects of the gameplay like that. For example, if you're having a hard time getting parries down, you can adjust the timing in the options to make it more forgiving in that specific regard without changing any of the other aspects of the gameplay. Frankly, more games in general should have granular difficulty options like that. It's always welcome and I'm glad it's becoming more popular to include that as a feature.
Your enthusiasm for this one is infectious. I wishlisted it on Steam before the video was even over, so good job reviewing this one, even if it is in a less organized fashion than your usual material.
I hope you do more of these nitrorambles. This was really fun to watch. This game looks like an absolute treasure as well.
You have no idea how happy I was to see a new video and it´s about "Another Crab's Treasure!
The Nitro Ramble format works very well, man you should make more of this. Appreciated that you explained the Steam Deck performance a little, I'm happy to hear that the game runs well on it. I wanted to get one for a long time now. Anyway dude have a nice day.
Even without a script, your reviews are still super well made and full of energy!! Def gotta check this game out, looks awesome
I'm down for more Nitro Rambles. The production is still top notch incl. relevant video clips, so cheers for that. 🍻
Nitro, just wanted to say LOVING the back to back uploads! I like this ramble format, you’re so effortless with how concise and refined your comments are, scripted or not.
You also convinced me to get Corn Kidz 64 since I’ve been itching for a good 3D platforming experience!
INDIE GAME REVOLUTION
Honestly i personally like Nitro Ramble as a format a lot! I think your unscripted thoughts work really well and still sound pretty organized all things considered. Id love to see more of it in the future!
These ramble videos are so fun lol. I love how expressive you get during 'em
I was losing my mind with you straight up forgetting about the existence of hermit crabs. It's a delight how much you like the game though, it's always such good fun watching people be that excited.
This “ramble” style is great, don’t even trip dawg
This is such a great intro game to the genre. It's also the only genre where a Little Brother Assist Mode is welcomed
I honestly never realized you already did some "Nitro Ramble" contents before with the name "Nitro Rad" in it.
What I love about your videos is how you explains with just the joy of someone saying what he loved out of his mind, without a script (and if there's one, you usually go off the road to keep talking about something you really enjoyed and try to describe your feeling on the spot rather than making a bullet point about it.)
So don't worry too much about the name change (even tho I think it's cool to have it as a real concept and actually hope you do more of those!)
Great video, you are the best!
man I love stories and games where you're tiny and stuff is made out of everyday objects, everything is recontextualized. lots of creativity in finding tiny equivalents to things
and googling that option to get an op gun, it's just a realistic handgun tied to this tiny hermit crab and it's really funny. I bet nitrorad would have shown it in the video if there wasn't a risk of that getting it age-restricted or something
Everyone talking about the game itself, but even since i saw it i always was stunned by the menu. Its looks quite minimalistic, but on a deal this set of squares actually represents the "golden ratio", by which actual shells seems to be growing. Really nice details as i think.
freakin love your vids dude you didnt even need my permission to call this a nitro ramble, its just perfect
This is such a great video idea! I love hearing you talk about games because you provide insight other creators don’t. You’ve evolved your content as well, making sure even ramble videos like this have so much to offer. Every day I get a new Nitro Rad vid in my notifications I stop what I’m doing and watch. Can’t wait for more as always dude
Didn't know this was from the creators of Going Under until I saw that Fizzle drinking machine in your footage. That's rad!! The fact that Agro Crab are the devs of this makes me want to try it out instantly!
Not a fan of souls likes but this seems a nice entry level that can be enjoyable for people that arent into trying the same thing 7987668887 times while having to run to that moment of difficulty every single time. Thanks for bringing light to it and Nitro Ramble is an excellent name imo.
Is it just me or does James have a lot more... energy since the Startropics video? Like he's never been stagnant before or anything but watching the last two videos and this one, he feels like an excited kid with a mortgage. It's really fun to watch.
Been hearing a lot about this game but not really any details, so exciting to see you talking about it!! I love how you go into details of game feel and how you pace your info, it really helps make it easier to follow. Finally played Anodyne 2 after seeing your video on it ages ago and its now one of my favorites, looks like I'll have to pick up this one too!
I just saw this game on Steam and thought "Oh, Nitro Rad is gonna love something like this", then I saw that you already uploaded a video about it lol
It sounds like you feel these aren't as good as scripted videos, but you do an amazing job of explaining your thoughts even without a script, and it's great fun listening to your enthusiasm!
I actually like this style of video a lot, feels very natural and enthusiastic even though you clearly don't have as much written, would be really cool if you kept doing more like these for certain games! Great video as always
I remember a while back (like a few years, I think?) You put out an unscripted or loosely scripted video that was actually really fun, so I'm glad to see you return to the format. No replacement for the more thought out scripted stuff obviously, but absolutely a type of video I'd love to see more of in the future!
Seems some of the artists that worked on this game’s visuals had a ton of fun designing everything in this game, from Krill’s itty bitty costumes to the packaging of all of the junk the underwater society is making use of. Some of the writing on the packages is especially amusing X3
Krill is actually a hermit crab since he uses different kinds of shells, which is honestly one of the coolest ideas ive seen in games with all the abilities they give you
God I love these! Your excitement made me smile all the way through, your love for this game is contagious and I’m definitely going to play it myself after this❤
Your enthusiasm here is infectious
This is the first Souls-like that I have seriously identified with and thoroughly enjoyed. It’s difficult, enough to be really frustrating at times, but it takes just enough difficulty off the top that the game becomes sooo much more playable for the average person. Not to mention, leveling is super easy, so you always have the option to power level if you think you need to.
I LOVE THIS MORE RAMBLES PLEASE. When you feel the need to because you pour out so much joy about a game like this it is such a JOY to watch glad your loving this game so much!
Yo! Man loving the fact you are approaching this "straight forward" way of talking about games, really love just hearing you giving your thoughts without any scripts, really hoping to have this format more often
James being unfamiliar with hermit crabs was not on my 2024 bingo list but here we are
James has me interested in a crab game. His enthusiasm is beyond infectious.
Im an accessibility lead for Xbox and I love when you mention accessibility features. Personally, I developed nerve damage in my left hand from a workplsce accident years ago and as someone who is IN LOVE with gothic art and architecture it breaks my heart how little I can engage eith dark souls and bloodborne. Including an "easy mode" may seem silly for games like this but Im always happy when its an option so I can still engage with these beautiful worlds and narratives. Anyways, if this id as accessible as you say I may check it out for myself sometime :)
absolute PEAK, very big fan of all these vids lately. really enjoyed this whole "nitro ramble" thing, hoping to see more of it soon!
So cool to see someone who knows what a good game can be, being this enthusiastic about a game launching in 24. Not that usual nowadays.
This ramble sold me way more than any other video on this game would! Always love hearing you talk about things you enjoy in games.
I would just like to tell you that this has become my goto video for explaining this game to other people. You sold me on it and I'm pretty sure you sold many more on it too!
Shoulda mentioned there were outfits in this game and you can eventually get a Maid outfit for Kril
I didn't expect a video about my most anticipated game of this year, Crab Souls. I've following this one since it was teased as game #2. Been having fun with it so far.
I’m so happy Nitro discovered the hermit crabs, they’re such fascinating little creatures
I've been following the development of Another Crabs Treasure because I played Agro Crabs, the developer, other game called Going Under. It's a really fun and colourful rogue like about working at a failing start-up. It's a fun romp, worth checking out!
Incredible review
5:57 the Urien clip caught me so off guard 😭
I love these Ramble videos because we get to see you at peak levels of goof! It's so engaging, like a livestream!
Dude, love these videos, it looks like you are just having a good time and sharing keep it up
That was a great video! Loved the rambling
Like seriously, seeing you having fun is the best part of my week
I wish to one day to experience the joys that funny youtuberman gets from Crab game, truly aspirational
I love how excited UA-camrs get about things they really like. The excitement always carries over to the viewer even if they weren't interested beforehand.
Nitro Ramble: where I talk about games I just played but no time to make a script for
I look forward to more
This looks straight up amazing. Games are so good these days. So much creativity and really good mashing up of concepts.
love these nitro rambles. its always a joy to get to hear your thoughts on games, doesnt need all your scripting and editing Always. though i LOVE normal nitro rads.
I appreciate the genuine excite you gave with this video, I already wanted it but you made me wanna play it more
I want more Nitro Rambles. You have so much energy in this video.
I really appreciate how you help me discover so many games I otherwise never would’ve heard of
