yay! you talked about Recuerdos de la Alhambra! Saw you playing it as an encore with the Houston Symphony and it floored me. The level of control with so much musicality is so hard on that piece. Thanks Augustin!
Thank you very much for this video! It was very helpful. Please, upload more videos like this. I need a guide for fingered octaves, staccato up and down, and tenths.
Thank you very much! 🙂 Paganini's Concerto No.1 Opt. 6: III. Rondo -Allegro spirituoso is one of my favorites. I love listening to the ricochet in this piece. It's one of the pieces I want to learn how to play.
Hey Augustin - fantastic idea to produce these little "masterclass tips" :). More!! The emphasis on the importance of remembering the exact starting position for each bow drop is very helpful. I also found my old teacher’s advice useful: use flat bow hair and, in ricocheted arpeggios (e.g. in the first movement of the Mendelssohn), let a smooth "arc" of the upper bow arm do most of the work. Galamian’s exercises, varying the number of ricocheted notes per down (and up!) bow are also quite helpful in gaining control. The technique can turn into explosive fun in passages like the 10th variation of Paganini's 'Carnivale di Venezia', when a 12-note run is ricocheted across four strings, or in gems like ‘Nel cor più non mi sento’, where it gets even more exciting. Who wants to play anything other than the violin after that!
I'm so happy to see you posting so much on your channel! I've been enjoying all the latest videos. Would you mind speaking about how to get fast/intense vibrato? Or the effects of left thumb position (high/low placement, angled/vertical)? Thanks for your video content!
You're a boss, man!!! I'm still with Twinkle Twinkle hahahah, but I feel I could understand what you wanted to explain. Great teacher, great violinist, wonderful artist. Thank you so much!!
Amazing professor♥ you are my inspiration to keep playing my violin♥ I would love to know more about using the bow the correct way playing the peace Bach suit 1
Hi Augustin, thanks for posting all these videos on youtube! The tips are concise and easy to understand. I was wondering if you could provide some pointers regarding slurred staccato? In particular, i am working on Melodie from Souvenir d'un lieu cher by Tchaikovsky. Trying to get a clean sound for the grazioso scherzando.
I was hoping you also were going to say something about upbow ricochet (like the original bowing of paganini 9) but still very helpful hopefully tomorrow I'll try to practice recuerdos for the first time
Etc.... LG, Wassili
I love these! they are so helpful.I feel inspired. Could you possibly do one on sound quality and how to get different sounds out of the violin? Thank you so much for these masterclasses
thank you! i have a question: in vivaldi’s winter mvt 3 i am having trouble using this stroke since it’s one note on each string (measure 93), do you have any tips? thanks!!! :)
Thanks a lot Maestro, you're a great teacher ( and a legendary violonist :-D )
