In my opinion, the slight muffling that happens with lots of wind makes the experience better, it feels like we really can experience how fast you're going.
Glad you like the immersive fel of the raw audio. At some point I'm going to get a rode mic attachment to test out. Will be interesting to see what y'all like.
I like the chest mount and the steady video you can re frame from it. My top video made yet is coming off the Peak chair on a mostly clear day, the 360 video wow's everyone who I have shown it to and it's fun to watch on a cell phone. Love this thing!
@@riseandalpine ua-cam.com/video/7L5xtVDHzGk/v-deo.html There is snow in the lens and I'm only an intermediate skier but look how steady this video was on someone who's only an intermediate. Anyone who is more steady skiing would have no problem taking a smooth/clear video. The 360 peak video is still far better than this one
@Ryan E Your video shows exactly what I don't like about the chest mount. It shows too much hand/arm movement. And the better skier you are, the stronger you tend to be with your poles, and which results in them being in the way more often.
Very interesting about the battery being so good. Almost felt like I got frostbite last week on a peak at Whistler while trying to replace the battery.
@EvilestMinion I know that pain all too well. Batteries always seem to die on the coldest, windiest spot on the mountain, right before a big line hahaha
@Robert M Glad you found it! I've done the same but with the whole camera open and the battery out. It soaked all the internal components. Miraculously it works after an evening in front of a fan!
I recently found your channel and I really have been digging all your content. I'd love to see a video on your editing workflow and the software your using to put together one of your videos. Keep up the great work!!
No worries! The selfie stick is 1m but you can frame the video to look further away. Recently they made a 3m selfie stick which looks super sick. The unicorn mount is separate from the invisible selfie stick. It's a smaller rod that attaches to the helmet mount!
Interesting stuff. Does it use memory cards or internal solid state memory? How long can you record for? Do you need to change cards if you’re out all day? Thanks in advance😊🇬🇧
Uses an SD card! I've got a 256GB sd card in it and that allows for a about 6-8 hours of 360 filming. The only thing I sometimes need to change is the battery if I'm filming non stop.
Yes yes yes. I actually wanted to know about insta 360. Your videos and one cut media’s videos (the Canadian influence) are convincing me to switch to the insta 360 from Go pro. “Sayonara” hahaha!!
Actually looking to get one of these soon and my real question was just comparing the X3 to the One RS models Insta360 sells. Do you have any experience with the One RS and any pros/cons between them if you do? And great review! Love to see these type behind the scenes things in addition to the other great content!
Hey Bryce - I don't have any experience with the RS. I use a go pro hero 11 quite often as well. The biggest advantage of the 360 is not missing anything and the ability to make great vertical socials. I find there can be some stitching issues and less crisp video than the go pro for regular wide screen. Both are awesome!
I honestly just use the regular go pro style mounts I buy cheap on amazon. Make sure it matches the contour of your helmet and clean with alcohol before applying. Then add pressure for a little while to really make sure it's secure! Never had an issue with the 3m hard plastic mounts, but I don't really like insta360's soft helmet mounts adhesive.
Pretty damn solid, and better than my Hero 11. I've done -15 days leaving it on my helmet the whole time and it's gone the whole day. I've only popped a second battery in 1 time so far and usually film about 1-2 hours worth of footage per day. Any more than that it makes for a lot of reframing hahaha. A lot of the time I'll pop it back in my pocket on runs or lifts I'm not trying to film. If it's west coast wet snowing you gotta be giving the lenses a wipe before each run to make sure it looks decent.
I personally don't. I prioritize the picture and stitching quality over lens protection since I film professionally. However, the lenses can be fragile so it's never a bad idea especially if you're just capturing personal moments to share. I always keep the camera lens in the plastic cap and in my pocket when I am not filming.
Sometimes I keep extra batteries. I also take the camera on and off my helmet and put it in my pocket between runs. If I leave it on my head the chairlift bar sometimes hits and and could crack the lens. I think the warmth of being in my pocket when it's not filming makes a massive difference overall.
Did you get free shipping from the USA and what courier did they use? Sometimes you get the full meal deal on duty and tax, sometimes not. Great videos, helps me navigate Whistler Blackcomb.
Hey Douglas - I like it better than the GoPro Max because of the app which makes it super easier to edit videos on your phone for socials. I actually just use a headmount I bought from amazon. The insta360 has the classic gopro bunny ears attachment which screws into the bottom so it fits into all the classical mounts.
I prefer it. Go pro's subscription model is bogus. All of insta360's software for editing is free and always improving. I also hate go pro batteries. I use 4 enduro go pro batteries to 1 insta battery. MIcrophone is the only thing that I find to be slightly better on the go pro. But, if I could only have one, I would choose the insta360 without hesitation.
@@riseandalpine agreed about the stitching, although like most things GoPro, it’s hit or miss. I like it’s form factor and 6mics make great audio…but I’ve wanted to try the Insta360 for a while

Don't suppose you're selling the v2 for a nice discount now that you've got the new one ;) How was the weekend for you? I got a ton of skiing in, which was awesome. Also tried skiing Crumpit yesterday which was... An experience 😅 (do not attempt, it was not an effective plan). But I technically got a couple turns in!

Fair enough. A 360 camera always has a certain level of distortion. I find the new 4k single lens is super mint. I used it for a lot of the stills in my Vantage Peak video and it looks crispy as heck. I prefer the natural color grading of the 360 in low light as well, go pro 11 makes things look a little yellow and you have to grade it. Also it's a time saver for me being able to push content out both vertically and horizontal.
I have both and in many cases GoPro is better but God damn X3 can get some sick shots and angles specially with 3m selfie stick, impossible with GoPro...
@@riseandalpine thats something i want. i have the sideways mount thingy for my gopro and i need to change it everytime. and i like all the features the 360 has to offer. what does the link in ur bio do, does some of the money go to you?

If you like follow cams as well it's so sick for filming your buddies. Just stick the camera wherever nearby them and then just drag over them on the app. Looks unreal!
No haters round here! The 4k single lens mode on this thing looks indistinguishable from a go pro view but with better color IMO. The biggest advantage to 360, especially for solo filmakers is that you don't miss footage. When I use to run POV gopro getting the angle right on a helmet was a huge problem.. it's the price you pay for distortion.
Have you tried any mounts with the motorcycle mount like he does in this video? It allows him to still have both poles and look normal (natural)... ua-cam.com/video/6-hXci3Vzqg/v-deo.html
That looks super slick! However, I would find it pretty hard not pole planting. Personally, I like using mounts that don't impede on my overall skiing experience, but it could be a sweet option for carving where planting isn't as necessary! Thanks for sharing :)
It all depends on the export settings. You can export at 4k on the computer but only 1080p from the app. I typically edit from the app because it is easiest for my workflow which includes socials. UA-cam compresses footy anyways. But, if you're working on a more serious production, you can keep it crispy with the proper desktop app export settings. TBH when you rewatch your footage on your phone it looks mental in 5.7k. Would be nice if they allowed for 4k export from the phone app though! Hopefully an upgrade to happen soon.
@@riseandalpine Its probably something they do because a lot of mobile OS (at least IOS for sure) cant handle 4k video codecs and they are much heavier on the processor and battery which is limited in mobile devices even on 5.7k 360 = 1920x1080 in 9:16 or 1080x1920 in 16:9 which in my opinion is the absolute bare minimum for social media and a little too low for what youtube is capable of, especially when viewing on a high res display the difference between native 9:16 (or gopro hero 11 8:7) 5.3k and "5.7k" 360, which really means 1080p, at this aspect ratio is just not on the same level
