Finally. A reviewer with a voice of reason. Thank you for saying what I have been saying for a while. Basically people expect to much for the money they are spending on a Case knife. If you do some investigation you will come to know that the money Case is charging for these knives does not put them into the high end knives. And people complaining about this stuff is inspecting it like it is a $1000 custom knife. These are handmade in the USA. Go find another hand made USA made knife and price it. It won't be what a Case knife cost. There may be a few exceptions. But not many, if any. Case are not high end knives. But they are beautiful, useable knives. And can be fun to collect because they make so many different handled knives. I have some Case's that have gapping. I don't care. It works. I have a number where the blade centering is off. I don't care. As long as they are not hitting, I don't care. Some of mine do have blade rub. With thin, munti bladed knives it will happen. I don't care. They are carry knives. Even if it was a safe queen. It is going to sit on the shelf and look pretty. I don't care. The price would double, triple, or more if they made sure every knife was like what most people are asking for. Perfection. And if they did that, the same people who are complaining the loudest about these so called issues would be yelling the loudest about the price of them. Thanks for saying what needs to be said. I know me saying what I said and your video is not going to stop people from complaining about things that shouldn't be complained about. But just maybe someone will realize how ridiculous they are being.
@@williamfriggle We must wage the fight against "knife snobbery" brother. I completely agree with you. I'm going to pin your comment in the comment section. I've said in a video before "If Case made a 'flawless' knife and charged $120 for it instead of $60 I'd still buy the $60 the one they're making now. I agree with you completely 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
The back spring running high is a good thing to me cause with use over time it will ware down. Some of those issues on the old one could just have developed with use. Like the sunken spring and feeling the pins and bolsters. I do like the stonger springs on the older ones and the pinned shield. Great video here.
@@BaxtersBlades Thanks man 👍🏻 I've seen a lot of older Case's in good and bad condition. And their fit and finish is about the same as the new ones. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
People get caught up in a lot of unnecessary details and it ruins the hobby. I enjoy knives, firearms and old tobacco pipes, and I don't look for imperfections, I just enjoy the objects themselves. Thanks for the video.
Traditional knives have never been flawless. For the most part they have been viewed as tools and made to be such. Some of us collectors tend to view them more as jewelry. In this video I want to show that a knife doesn't have to be perfect to be very good. 👍🏻
Many years ago, some knife manufacturers offered basically the same knife in different grades of finishing for different prices. IMO that's kind of faded away into one price one grade. With the new technology of the last few decades, a regular factory knife should be well fitted and functional
Our expectations have grown over the years due to technology and other things. Collecting didn't start till the 70s. Since that time, perfection in quality for collecting has only grown. Before the 70s, I don't think people cared about little imperfections, they just needed a knife that worked. I will admit I do not tolerate blade wobble. Don't mind much of anything else within reason. Great video and topics! I really enjoy the direction you're going with your channel! Thanks much!
@@ghostrider-813 I absolutely agree with you. I have 0 GEC's and probably 70 Case's. I appreciate them being at a price that I can buy one if I want it. If Case made a line at Gec quality for $120+ I'd still buy the ones they're making right now instead. The video wasn't meant to put Case down, but to show that the older knives really were not built much better than the new ones. Thanks man 👍🏻
I only buy Case knives if I can have them in my hand. That way I can see if they are screwed up or not. Kinda limits what I can buy usually no cool knives at Bass Pro Shop nearby where I live
I have both older (pre-2000 and some pre-1976) and I must say that the newer Case Knives seem somehow diminished and not as good a 'feel' in the hand. Not a real problem just a preference that other may not have.
Case used to offer what they called the working man's knives with delrin scales and a plainer finish to the blades, but they performed as well as the higher grade higher priced knives.
They are tools and made to cut. If we picked over our women folk like this we would probably be without one. There is beauty in imperfection but only if you are willing to look for it.

I believe the sod buster is a 1986. The tang stamp from what i could see of it looked to have a lightning bolt (S⚡) which was used from 1980-89.

Good video. The biggest thing I’ve seen with my newer Case knives is weaker snap. I think fit & finish is better.
