  • The Triumph Tiger 800 is a great budget motorcycle. This bike has been a great companion over the last year and really Is a workhorse. I have ridden dozens of bikes and most of my experience is from my motocross days. I wanted to put my road edition Tiger 800 to the test off-road and see how it held up. Is it a good option for on and off-road? Let's find out.
For all my gear that I use see the links below.

I had a 2015 XCx model and put 40,000km on it, much of it on dirt. My view is
    1) the plastics around the front of the bike are fragile, subject to crash damage. The panel design and fixation method is annoyingly finicky.
    2) if you rid eon dusty tracks you will need to replace the airbox snorkel with a Uni Filter per-filter ( easy to do)
    3) the front fender is liable to fracture if you run knobby tyres. The Touratech fender riser kit does not work to avoid fracture.
    3) unlike the GS800, the Tiger works better in dirt with luggage on the rear of the bike.
    4) the water shield for below the battery area is poor. it ends up like a swamp down there and guess where they put the main fuse?
Other than that, the engine, engine control modes, gear ratios , suspension, brakes work well on dirt ( XCx model)

Thanks for the insight. I hear the TFT screens on the new tigers are a ticking time bomb. And if you buy a new one they only come with a 1 year warranty.
I have a buddy with a 2021 and his keyless start sometimes takes 10min to work.

@@AmericanAbroad1 I guess the new Tigers are like the KTM/ BMWs; great when they work. I have gone back to smaller , simpler bikes for ADV riding

@@kymstock1852 honestly in my opinion the only real bullet proof liter bikes in the adv game are Honda AT and Yamaha super tenere. I guess Suzuki should be in there but it doesn’t excite anyone.
I ride a 1250GS and I love the quality and many people say they hold up super well. But you pay big money. I wouldn’t mind trying a AT 1100 at some point.

@@AmericanAbroad1 Even Honda is having "issues" with the AT TFT screens. Much as I like the GS1250, I am too much of a scrooge to part with the $ for one. For me they weigh too much too ( getting old and weak too). Happy trails to you in the future.

@@kymstock1852 Yeah if you do heaps of off-road there are much better bikes out there in the middleweight class. Ride Safe!
