- Serbia has moved army units to its border with Kosovo, after clashes between Kosovan police and members of the country's ethnic Serb minority.
The unrest began when Serbs tried to prevent newly elected ethnic Albanian officials from entering municipal buildings in the north. Serbs form the majority there - and boycotted last month's elections. That allowed Albanian candidates to win on a turnout of just over 3 percent. In 2008 Kosovo declared independence, which Serbia rejects.

Double standards by the west.nso, Albanians, who were minority in Serbia but majority in Kosovo, were supported by the west and were given military support to gain independence.
And now, Serbs are minority in Kosovo but majority in the northern part of Kosovo, but they are not allowed to be independent like Albanians were.
Its easy: Kosovo had it’s own borders even when it was part of Yugoslavia, so…there is story and a reason why that was the case ;)

The EU doesn’t know what to do, there is no solution possible. America and EU shouldn’t have interfered in these affairs in 1999. They have now engineered this crisis and don’t know how to fix it.
Not only that but they made a precedent when it comes to recognizing breakaway territories and now you have a bunch of regions calling for independence and recognition based on Kosovo. Basically opened Pandora's box now good luck closing it.
NATO interfered to stop genocide. Serbia is causing trouble again to help take attention away from Russia's crimes against humanity. It won't work unless the goal is to get Serbia bombed again.

So to sum up situation :
Serbs boycoted elections because Pristina didnt respect agreement to create Serb municipalities that EU and US agree on and expect Kosovo to fulfill promise.
Kosovo hold elections in Serb majority municipalities and only 3% of voters Albanians minority predominantly attend the voting and elect Albanian mayor.
Serb start protesting because turnout on the elections has to be atleast 51% to be legitimate and they dont accept Mayor elected by 3% of the voters.
Elected mayor takes office with force aided by Kosovar police.

We can see some double standards in this situation. The western European rulers and the US have been in favor of the right to secede in some places but not in other places.
The Western powers are in all in favor of that in every respect. Serbia rejected the agreement to return the serbian majority regions to Serbia, because it required them to accept the right of the Albanian majority regions to remain independent, and Serbia refuse to accept that, hence the stalemate.

What a pathetic response from the Eulex chief whose mission was established exactly to prevent this kind of attacks on the Serbs, as part of the Brussels Agreements. Mostly just there to avoid serbia to reinitiate the genocide they were stationed to stop. Attempts have been made to fix the border issue, but the agreement of returning the Serbian dominant regions to Serbia was REJECTED by Serbia, and hence hasn't happened.

When Kosovo police enter in North of Kosovo (Where they are not allowed to enter without of permis of Nato) they are monitoring situation. If serbian police enter in pristina they would be reacting on situation. So how that we are talking about the same rigts for everybody that lives in Kosovo.

Richard Grenell also said "You destroyed the strong bond between the USA and Kosovo. You are the first leader of Kosovo who was condemned by both the democrats and republicans," Also, the US Ambassador to the so-called Kosovo*: "The United States condemns the ongoing actions by the Kosovan authorities to access municipal buildings in the north of Kosovo. Why did NATO and EU intervened on Kosovo so quick, but when Catalunya voted for independence they blocked and jailed them?
Because serbs were genociding the ethnic albanians in kosovo, so they intervened
I don't know much about Kosovo but NATO did nothing about Catalunya, EU merely stated that the referendum was not constitutionnal in Spain and was a Spanish internal matter. Spain applied its own legislation to ask for a european arrest mandate; no one was blocked and jailed by the EU or NATO.
Because there had been a war with genocide in ex Yugoslavia and Europe and the US were slow to react then, so to not repeat that mistake action was taken. Whether or not that was a good idea or not is debatable.

Serbians have become minoritie in their own country, that is crazy, why the American government and NATO have not supported Serbia, they are supporting Ukranie, and it' was the same situation, America have done completely the opposite in Serbia they bombarded Serbia just to support the Albanian separatists. The American government also needed to bombard Kiev to support the Russian separatist in Donbas.

Kosovo should be it’s own identity. You have both Serbians and Albanians that were born in villages on this land. It is not fair for either one to be displaced. Why can it not be “multicultural”. Times have changed and the only peace is to accept and build with what you have.

In essence, nothing really. People who don't understand how our politicians act make a big deal out of this. The thing is, Serbia is facing a pretty bad unrest currently due to the overall economic situation, culminating in the series of mass shootings that happened at the start of the month which made 100.000+ people go into the streets in Belgrade alone.
On the other hand, Serbia-Kosovo negotiations were done and original idea of Organization of Serbian Municipalities in Kosovo is pretty much dead. Serbian president can't announce it to the people because it would be bad for him politically. So he made a deal with Kurti, Albanian leader in Kosovo.
Serbian List (the only organized Serbian political group in Kosovo, under the direct rule from the Serbian president) was instructed to boycott the local elections. They explained it to the people like "We don't want to give them legitimacy". In reality, he was setting the stage. Then, he organized "the biggest political meeting in Serbia's newer history" to show "unity", and ordered tens of thousands of Serbs from Kosovo to come to Belgrade and Albanians actually provided busses. The two leaders made a deal!
Then, on the day Northern Kosovo was emptied of many able bodied nationalists, Kosovo's units moved in to take control of the institutions. Worked like clockwork.
In the end, Serbian president can blame the end of idea of Organization of Serbian Municipalities on Albanians, present himself as a victim and have a big talking point in his "meeting of strength and unity", while Albanian leader finally got the hold on the northern institutions.
Both of them profited greatly, the only loser here being the Serbian people.
But you won't get those details from DW, no. They will, as always, cover it superficially and present it as simple ethnic tensions in the Balkans.

Because then the Albanians from the south of Serbia will ask to join Kosovo. After them, Bosniaks from Serbia will ask to join Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Serbs from Bosnia to join Serbia... There is more, but I guess you get the point.
The obvious solution in 1991 was give indepndence to Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia,and Kosovo but the serbs prefered going go war instead of "losing" territories. Read more books and you'll understand imperialism.

@@ericdpeerik3928 They boycotted, because Kosovo refused to do its part in an agreement imposed by EU and the US ( to which Serbia agreed). Also 3.5% is legally not enough to enact the results of a vote.

Serbians have more than 1300 ( one thousand and three hundreds) cultural monuments on Kosovo and much more friends and families there also. It should be enough for you to understand and estimate the value that Kosovo has for Serbian people. In Year 1389, even before Usa founded, while Indians were living in peace on their own territories before they were occupied, Serbian people were fighting on Kosovo to save Europe and all known world from Ottoman Empire, Serbs like the last line of defense against Turkish emperors who were trying to destroy all Europe, like they did with East Roman Empire, to build their own world. Church and religion maybe were main causes of fights in history, no doubt, I am the first one who don’t support the church at all, but when we talk about religion, temples, spirit, faith, that s something you cant take away from people, you can change the history and perception of people about my people and country, but you cant take away a spirit from us. We were born here, we wanna die here. Peace to the world and all good people there (even Albanians 🤣)

@@juliarichter6987 even if we assume that Nato intervention was necessary to prevent further bloodshed, they had no good reason to violate Serbia's territorial integrity by recognizing Kosovo. Besides, Nato did not bat an eye when Croatia launched its Operation Storm to suppress Serbian separatists in its territory, which led to hundreds of civilians deaths (even by Croatian estimates) and hundreds of thousands of displaced people.
