    I have the Retail REMs Sentinel on my GC1725 too. It did make access to the zerk tough but doable - I had to adjust the mounting bolts. After watching this I'm going to go check my cooling fin clearance and look at the fuel lines as well. I do appreciate all the great info you put out on these wonderful little tractors. Your channel is a big reason I decided to go with the Massey when bought mine almost a year ago. THANKS!

    I’ve had the Sentinel skid plate on my GC for about 3 years now. It’s definitely done it’s job and protected the underside of the tractor - needed for me as I’m always in the woods. That being said, QC and the fit were problematic initially. Turned out I was initially sent the wrong version of the main hat-section part. I offered to fix it myself and receive a slight discount… that fixed the initial hole alignment issue, but the other two parts were impossible to install without additional modification. I had to change the angle of I believe the same bend you did, slot an additional hole, and grind one of the edges. At the end of the day it fits good now, doesn’t rub on anything, and has provided much needed protection many times.

      The owner said they have adjusted the design over time to improve fit and PTO clearance, so I guess it has gotten better but it's still not perfect. Would I purchase it again if I had know all of this upfront...yeah, I would. There is a Bro-tek plate that seems like it's also made to protect the rear transmission housing from damage but I couldn't figure out from their instructions what the final install would look like, so I discarded them as a possibility. The RetailREMS solution is very clear about where is mounts and what it protects, even if a few tweaks are needed.

    The green tractor store sells a red dye that I added to my hydraulic fluid. The fluid level in the sight glass is very easy to see.

    Right on Ed. I did the service in mine recently as well. I see you also broke the myth that you have to remove the wheel to access the suction filter.

    • @Redneck_Ed
      @Redneck_Ed  10 місяців тому +1

      Yeah, myth busted. I have wheel spacers, but the filter slides into the inner wheel well with room to spare even without spacers.

      I don't think I'll even screw with that suction filter next time. I had it out twice now, and both times hardly anything on there.

    Another great video. But now I have to go check out that guard on mine.. I changed my fluid at 50 hours and I'm at 200 now. I ll change it again in the spring along with the once a year oil change. I think Mark should do some checking on his guard. That metal he uses is not that thick. With that tight of clearance, I could see it hitting the cooling fins.

    Hey Ed, as always, thanks for the video and details. I've only changed the engine oil so far, not the hydraulic. Showing the sight glass while you filled it and then what you said got to me looing in my owner's manual. I've seen other videos where people complain about the sight glass and that it's kinda hard to tell if there is fluid or not by seeing what color it is. It was helpful to hear you mention that you should make sure your level stays visible. I hadn't remembered seeing that in the manual, but it does mention it in section 4.3, page 100 that the line must be seen. A couple other things. In a past video you had removed the tire to check the suction filter @ 50 hrs. yet this time you just pulled it out. You don't have spacers on your wheels do you? Also, one minor thing, your bucket wasn't fully curled, rather it was flat on the ground. That wouldn't make too much difference. One last thing, any regrets getting the turf tires? I opted for the R4 and haven't had any issues on the lawn or otherwise.

      I have 2" spacers on now, but I think I could have gotten the screen out even without by pulling it out and into the inner wheel space in spite of what I said/did in the previous maintenance video filmed before I got spacers. Would be tight though without spacers on. True, the bucket wasn't fully curled. The tractor was in the pressure relieve state, so that's about where the bucket sits naturally with the pressure relieved. As for turfs, no regrets at all. If I operated more in mud and less on grass, I may have some regrets. For reference, my neighbor with the Kubota BX had R4s but sold them and got turfs instead because R4s tear up his lawn too much.

      @@Redneck_Ed I don't really have any need for spacers. I don't have any inclines on the property that would warrant them. I've seen a few videos on them and some people say they cause extra stress on the axle ends inside the differential, especially when wheel weights/ballast are present. I think I did see one video where the guy mounted the tires on the opposite sides cuz there is some minimal offset to the rims. Who knows? Some people love them and never have issues while others do.

    So is the Sentinel still on your tractor ? I put one on mine about 4 months ago. It didn't appear to be rubbing anywhere. I haven gotten the steps yet. Do you recommend them ? thanks !!!

    • @Redneck_Ed
      @Redneck_Ed  3 місяці тому

      Yes, I do still have it on my tractor but bent it a little so it doesn't rub anymore. I have the step on the one side and it's ok. Honestly though, it's not wide enough for the price. It needs to be about 4 inches wider.

    Do you have rear wheel spacers?

    • @Redneck_Ed
      @Redneck_Ed  9 місяців тому +1

      I do and that gave me a little more room to work, but the suction screen slides out and into the inside of the wheel well. Pretty sure it would have come out find even without wheel spacers.

    Hydraulic fluid change every 50 hours seems like a waste of money

    • @Redneck_Ed
      @Redneck_Ed  8 місяців тому

      50 hours wasn't my target, it was annual according to the operator manual maintenance table but yes even that interval does seem wasteful. Check out my follow-up video where I lab tested the used hydraulic fluid to see the results.

    • @vicviv9275
      @vicviv9275 8 місяців тому

      My manual doesn't even say anything about when to change it. I'm figuring 250 hours, at least the first time. People are saying it'll easily last 1000 hours or more. I really have no idea.

      @@vicviv9275 What model tractor do you have? If you have a GC1723 or GC1725, there is a table in section 4 of the operator manual that specifies all maintenance intervals. That's where you will find the references to hours-based and time-based maintenance checks.

    • @vicviv9275
      @vicviv9275 8 місяців тому

      Yes, there is a table but hydraulic fluid isn't mentioned as I said before.

      @@vicviv9275 It's called "transmission oil" in the manual and it's on page 92, 2nd row from the top under engine oil. You can see a screen snip of that table here: ua-cam.com/video/gX0jtgu0fn8/v-deo.html

    Haven't done mine yet just at 204hrs.
    Did pick up everything except sleeve filter o rings dealer didn't have them. Do you remember the part number?
    My dealer sold me mobil 424 instead of permatran they say if it comes in for service that is what it leaves with.

    • @Redneck_Ed
      @Redneck_Ed  11 місяців тому +1

      Suction Screen Filter O Rings are 4264754M1 and you need 2. I replaced mine at 50 hours, so this time at 83 hours I just inspected and they actually seemed ok, so I did not replace them this time.
