    The only way to be certain if a legacy reprint or repackaged pack has a foil inside is to use a wire detector. Japanese pokemon collectors have been using WPP123 wire pipe power detector for over a decade as an alternative for weighing packs.

      @miniMAXI16  2 роки тому

      I have never heard of this, is there any explanation of this here on youtube? I know of the tinfoil-thing, mapping for certain sets and scaling, a detector is new for me.

    • @TheSuperSangan
      @TheSuperSangan 2 роки тому

      @@miniMAXI16 there are tons but they are all in Japanese. Essentially this or any detector goes off when it comes across a foil. The good thing about wpp123 is that its easily adjustable for depth. So you have to calibrate it to reach a certain depth and it will go off when it notices a difference of the card material.

    I discovered this 20 years ago except it was for searching rolls of coins especially half-dollars for silver! I had a favorite bank where the teller would let me weigh each roll.

      @miniMAXI16  2 роки тому

      So there are holo coins? ;-)
      Kidding aside, what`s the point of scaling the rolls, coins should be pretty identical, or am i missing something?

      They took the silver out of the half dollar coins after 1971 and replaced it with more copper and zinc (cheaper). The coins that have silver in them, while being the same size, are denser and therefore heavier. Nowadays, the amount of silver in those old silver coins is worth much more than the face value of the coin :)

    When I weigh LOB, i dont open it unless its over 12.80 if its not, I keep it sealed.

  • @markbrown4597
    @markbrown4597 3 роки тому +3

    Yeah, from my recent experiences, and looking back on this video, I think 12.80 is the golden number. The two packs you had over 12.80 were Holos, that adds up with the LOB packs I've opened recently. I would say anything over 12.80 open 100% and anything 12.70 and up is a fun gamble. anything below 12.70 is just a waste of a good sealed product for a display or collection D:, but that's just my biased opinion as a sealed fan ofc.

      Sorry for responding to a year old comment, but if you could answer a question, I'd be super grateful!
      Is this guide just for LOB or any classic pack? And are do these same weights apply for original 1st edition prints of the packs or just re-prints?
      Reason I ask is, I don't know like if LOB, Metal Raiders, Magic Ruler, etc have different weights.
      Like, let's say I'm going for 1st edition Ultras of the OG series packs. Is 12.80 the golden rule for all of them or just LOB?
      And do eBay sellers generally accept returns/refunds or no? Like, if I manage to find some packs on eBay, weigh them, then they aren't what I want, could I just return them or naw? The packs are super expensive, so I don't wanna just waste money on impulse purchases!
      Thank you for any help you can provide!

      @@RipplePuff_ Weighing packs that come lose or in repacked sets is not reliable. Weighing packs is only good when you can weigh them from the same box or case.

      @@RipplePuff_ What I was speaking in reference to are the 2017 reprint packs from the OG legendary collection. Sorry to reply 7 months after the fact :(
      I found consistent results amount all 6 of those sets from that printing.
      as far as returning packs, I wouldn't do that as in the listing you are simply buying the booster pack and not a listed as heavy or certain weight booster pack, so returning it wouldn't exactly be ethical. What I would suggest is just keep the packs for your own collection, be it for a display or binder or less them at a slightly reduced price as weighed light weight packs unlikely to have a foil card, people will still buy them as so long as you disclose they are scaled you are good to go. Personally, I think you should just wait for the booster boxes of the 25th anniversary reprints, weigh the packs, open the heavy ones and leave the light ones sealed in the box for a nice display piece and call it a day.

    What you do next after weighing packs is to foil the packs! Isolate the foils/rares of the packs, the 5 card of the pack. Then run foil along where the name of the card would be, super rares and no rares are the only cards that will not have the name appear on the foil! So foiling the heavy packs will help you keep heavy packs seals as most supers of these sets aren't worth opening, even some of the Ultras and secrets can be kept sealed and you only need to open the good foils! Pro tip!
    PS this literally works for all sets too, current sets like starlight rare sets and ghost from the past works wonders with this method!

    • @miniMAXI16
      @miniMAXI16  3 роки тому +1

      Uhm, what do you mean by "foiling" packs? That sounds weird to me and seems to be messing around with sealed packs (you said yourself it was kinda tedious). Shoving cards up and down in there etc. might damage the contents of the pack, too, so i`m not keen to even try that.
      It`s not my intention to keep heavy packs sealed or sort out the good stuff, i can buy singles if i really want a specific card so badly. The whole point of opening packs here is to be excited about the chance for a good pull. Keeping light packs isn`t worth it either as nobody would buy them, so that`s that.

    Back :D from holiday, a few new videos to see. It is this scaling that makes me weary when buying unsealed packs. I'd rather buy a box sealed or special editions(tins) just to be safe. I know some even tried to weigh in the overall weight of the tin :)) long are the days where you can trade cards for cards and not buy something.

    You should invest in a milligram scale bruh... The difference in weight between a super and a ultra will undoubtedly come down to milligrams if not micro grams

    • @miniMAXI16
      @miniMAXI16  10 місяців тому

      Hm, that`d be a little too much i guess, if you look at some cards/packs, they sometimes are a little wider than others. Differences in the mg-range can be caused by factory procedures, too, i guess.
      If someone was to test that with such a scale, i`d be down to check it out, though. ;-)
