Ry's work on "beggars banquet" got me inrto the mandolin. It was the high spot of my sons first birthday , when we bumped into ry just before a performance at cambridge festie. He shook the babes hand . Lovely man . Wonderful musician and a real inspiration
@@chrispywilliams1992 Ry; taught so much that he just plain out rip Ry off listen to alot of those Stones licks damm~darn it that Ry licks ( Sister~Morphine ) & the open G 5 string to yes ( Honkey Tonk Woman & the acoustic version Ry the Man no ego or hot shot just the nitty~gritty🗿🎼🎸🎤🔌🎼✌outs
My Grandmom teaches me I little while how to play the mandolin, so many years ago i shouldn't had learn, but the time goes by, and I only reminds those moments. If I learned how to play it, this for sure will be one of the songs I would like to play, it's a classic western music, love it!!
Great artist. Billy the Kid was indeed homcidal, but he was not killing folks as a child, not quite that sociopathic. His first mortal shooting was at the age of 17, an adult in that age.
Wonderfull, except for a noticeable stumble in the middle and a couple of odd pauses afterward. Probably went out of tune or broke a string; I have an old bootleg recording where he did break a string and asked if there was anyone in the audience that was capable of changing a string on a mandolin, and if so, would they come up on stage and fix it for him..... this must have been when he was relatively little known and didn't have a guitar tech traveling with him. Also indicative of a very different time, when a musician didn't worry first and foremost about somebody grabbing what might be a valuable instrument* and damaging it, or just absconding with it. *Another you tube video has him playing this song on a Gibson F4, how much is one of those worth nowadays or even back then?
I think there's a number of factors here. He sounds like he's struggling to hit the a lot of notes in the vocal line; honestly, he sounds exhausted! This is on top of the fact the his bottom string is out of tune. Everyone has off nights, i guess.
My wife and I saw Ry Cooder at The Main Point in Bryn Mawr PA in ‘72 or ‘73. Great concert, including this song.
I bought my Mandolin just to learn to play this tune.!
A great song by a greater musician finally met him 2 years ago and couldn't have been more gracious. The whole reason I picked up the guitar.

It’s so darn hard to play and sing. That’s a hard one!
