      Understandable for those who watched classic Who. Those such as myself... I personally didn't have a clue. I had to watch Pyramids of Mars afterwards to know who the villain was. Which to be honest has left me feeling slightly left out of the loop on this story arc. Great scary episode, but left confused afterwards. Now I know who the villain is- I understand. People who are new who era....will be left puzzled by the villain.

    10:23 To be fair to Kate it was kinda the Doctor's fault. She told the soldier not to go investigate and the Doctor shut her down and told him to go. If he hadn't done that the solider likely wouldn't have died. So it made sense for Kate to be upset even though of course the Doctor didn't know that would happen to him.

      Very true. Part of me just kinda wished Kate could act differently now that she's known the Doctor for so long, knows that he has a big heart and how dangerous his adventures are. But I guess I can respect her moment of outrage under the circumstances.

So I binge watched "the pyramids of mars classic- to see who the villain was and his connection to the Doctor. Which as a finale... isn't great if the show is aimed at newer fans. Ok, maybe I'm a fan that looks and digs around rumours and everything but the reveal of Sutekh having been there almost the entire time that the Doctor and Ruby has been travelling together and even the possibility of Sutekh having been there for a while, to me, raises the stakes a little bit. Sutekh knows the Doctor and has managed to watch and hide from him for a long time. Along with the fact that since the star beast there has been reference to "The Boss" and "The one who waits" along with a few other hints that Sutekh is a problem. The fact that the toymaker was a task for even the Doctor to beat was meant to make the audience realise that Sutekh was a problem. It made me really excited to look back and see that there were possibly more hints than what was supposed to have been seen in the initial watch of the episodes.
    For me this ranked as my favourite episode so far of the series.

    2. Devils Chord
    3. Rogue

    What a fantastic episode. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. I thought Sutekh might be returning but I still felt the shock factor. I feel hugely empathetic towards Susan Triad; it seems that Sutekh completely used and possessed a very ordinary, very nice woman. Harriet's harbinger speech was bloody terrifying.
    Who is Mrs.Flood? She seemed evil here but there's just enough ambiguity, I think, to turn that around again. What if Flood is Susan and comes to save the day? But, only after letting her grandfather suffer with Sutekh a little bit for abandoning her!? She certainly seems to be a timelord since she spoke about "hiding away" in a way that mirrored the doctor's explanation of regeneration to Ruby.
    Also, the anagram thing: you have to remember that this show is for kids too. I LOVE the wordplay for younger audiences; it gets them thinking about language as well as narrative.

    This was by far the best episode of the series (but that is not much of an achivement) but there was no context as to the reveal. The reveal itself, again, was underwhelming as to get the gravitas it should, I should prob know and feel horror of the said character. I dont unfortunately know the villan. Maybe my fault maybe not.

      You don't know any villain until you do. That's how characters work. Just because this character was in an episode in 1975 doesn't mean RTD expects the general audience to know that. He could be a completely new villain and it would have the same impact.

    • @Thetoon25
      @Thetoon25 6 місяців тому

      @@ennayanne Sometimes you do know the villain though. With the history of the show, some villains you do just know from either cultural impact, parody's, other media throughtout the years without actually seeing them in an episode. I remeber the "Great Intellegence" being an villan centriced episode and feeling the same. Your right, in a way and I do agree, that having a "new" but old villan used for a series finale is an absolute reasonable thing from RTD, just to me there was no real impact as I had not heard of the villan prior.
