I used to go trolling right off the beach in Costa Rica and the water can be 1000' just a little way offshore. In the Golfo Dulce there are mountains underwater between the mainland and the Osa Peninsula. I lived in Pavones on the mainland and a mile offshore we trolled over steep drop-offs. Pavones is more of a surfing beach than a fishin spot, but on calm days we caught tons of tuna and mahi mahi and mackerel trolling and snappers on the bottom.
That croaker/sweet trout would be called a spot up around the Chesapeake Bay. A lot of people fish for them to eat. They take home coolers full. 50 each is the limit. I spend my time trying to catch flounder and redfish but spots chew up a lot of baits along with the croakers, puffers, pinfish and other tail biters. I'm surprised more people don't try those croakers and spots for bait in the bay.
Ruby Red Lips, Key West Grunts, or as Party Boat Captains in my area (Clearwater) call them incorrectly, but a more desirable name, Grey Snapper. They are officially "White Grunt." Brad, have you ever fried them? If they are large enough, we NEVER throw them back anymore! I promise you all that they make delicious fish fingers! If we catch those, we usually also catch some Gag Grouper, too. I've done this with friends several times, and I challenge you all to try it yourself sometime. Fry up some of each and do a blindfold test on friends! Not a single time has the Gag EVER beat White Grunt in an honest bindfold test in my fish fry's. I don't know why, but strips are the best way to fry them. For that reason, be careful not to overcook them. Because Gag filets are larger and thicker, they obviously take much longer to fry! Try it, you will not be sorry!

It's a small spot and they are good to eat they get up to 1 to 2 lbs and good eating
