I definitely get the hesitation with presenting Goat Format, given the huge rift between modern and historical. Seeing modern Goat on display is pretty awesome, though I do think it would be pretty cool if someday, somewhere down the line, we took a look at historical Goat, just so we can compare and contrast deck-building philosophies and metas between the two eras. Now, I don't think there's a need to go Classic vs Modern on every format. Maybe restrict it to the most popular ones or formats that get a lot of requests; I unironically would love to see what a modern take of Tele-DAD format would look like with as much scrutiny as modern-day Goat and Edison have. Anyway, this was super cool; seeing a deck profile with Goat's Holy Trinity and a full playset of 3 super Metamorphosis is kind of hurting my brain. Keep it up!
Another phenomenal video from the OG! I definitely prefer your style of content looking at the historical checklists and how they used to function, with that said the new blend of modernized texts are definitely interesting and appreciated as well! I think it just opens more doors for what you can do with these videos. I think specifically with formats like gold and Edison there is value in doing both!
I like you taking a modern approach to what decks you profile, at the very least seeing what you would change if profiling a historical deck. Deck profiles are a lot better when insight is provided and can show how your views change over time.
I really love that you did exactly this kind of Deck profile and the way you explained the distinction! :) I would love to "revisit" Tele DAD and 2007 Destiny Hero Beatdown to find more optimized builds as I enjoy both ways of playing old formats :) Couldnt be more satisfied with this video and the possible implications of you uploading this content :)
I'm pretty sure correct me if I'm wrong that the way apprentice magician works is that if you creature swap it to your opponent and you run it over you don't get the float because it doesn't specifically say "and sent to your graveyard ". So I'm pretty sure that your opponent still gets the search instead.
That's exactly how it works in goat. It wasn't till the next format i believe where they limiter apprentice to 2 that it searched for the owner regardless of where it died
I really enjoy this style of deck profiles. With how it would look like today, while also talking about said history, seeing what improvements could be done today is very interesting. Would love to see some of your takes on other older formats, if you have figured out anything recently that would be good to change/even a whole new deck to play in old formats. especially, edison or plant format! Regardless, good content as always. good to you see you back, been a while!
I like the idea of doing both retro and modern. It showcases the differences in deck building and how the meta eventually shifts as time goes on. You go pretty indepth on the decks and card choices so I think the challenge would be whether you have the space or time to fit everything into one vid or split into two. But either ways I'll find it intersting and will definitely watch your videos.
The revival of goat format is what brought me back into the game and in some sense led me to your channel in the first place (the YT algorithm recommended you, but I recognized your name from the Bazoo DimFusion deck that was on the old Format Library DFT page, not from your tops that happened after I stopped playing the first go-around), so I *absolutely* don't mind the occasional foray into the "format library revisitation" lists, goat or otherwise. I mean, GFC17 had over 250 entrants - I think there's a solid case that in some sense, the revival of these old formats carving out a community niche is absolutely an important part of Yu-Gi-Oh history and it's well worth chronicling.
I really like your content Joe. The fact of transporting back to that time and understanding pre-modern deck building theory is important in order to learn tempo, the importance of card pools at each time (which we can see until nowadays) and also enjoying time wizard formats.
I think having a blend of both historically accurate and updated card choices in the deck profiles is the sweet spot. Properly representing each deck/format as they were at the time gives us an honest look at the game's history, and the modernised perspective shows us the growth we've experienced. It also makes it easier for new players to find competitive decks for the modern scene.
09:45 not sure if this has been pointed out previously, but in goat format specifically, I don't think you will get the apprentice magician effect if you run over a copy that you own in possession of your opponent as it doesn't state it has to activate in the GY. Fairly sure this one is on goat format rulings page
Hi Joe, thanks for taking our comments. I enjoy listening to your content like a podcast, so for me a blend is fine… but I really like the traditional profiles as it’s such a walk down memory lane. Appreciate your efforts for the community nonetheless!
I think profiling both modern and retro Goat is fine. A big reason is that even Goat decks optimized for today... will one day be "Yugioh History" if staying true to your channel vision is important. Personally, I would say upload what you want regardless of the channel name haha. I know that if you uploaded modern constantly with what you are doing with current format, I would still watch.
Your content remains based even if the format has been covered to death. Great presentation, too, as always. Shoutout to MBT for plugging your content. Honestly, I think that as long as your preface the presented perspective as historical or recent, it's fine. I understand the reluctantcy in covering 2005 with 2022 eyes, but being actively aware of this anachronism is more valuable than going exclusively in either direction. Just my 2 cents tho.
I would really like to see more of this blend or even your takes on decks, i mainly play edison but i follow/watch also goat format and i would really love to see more takes on decks and profiles besides seeing the bling 😎
I think a blend is the best way of going about it now. Even with the new decks appearing in Edison the skeletons of the older ones are still commonly found within the formats and even top in the case of like Quickdraw dandy. So you can still keep some of those older decks in tact but just mention maybe the new adaptations they have made. Cause regardless with these broader formats like Goat and Edison there will continue to be deck adaptations based on how the meta might change per month/year
Yooo, new YGO History. Looking at modern Goat and maybe even historical Goat (and Edison) has its value for reasons someone else stated, but also the formats are still evolving and a look at historical decklists can potentially contribute to the evolution of those formats.
Joe there is 17 monsters 18 spells and 4 traps in main deck which is 39 cards in total? you missed something? i was trying your build on dueling book and noticed it :D
You should do a video where you compare the goats deck that won nationals to geistds build that just got 2nd at worlds. Would be a good way to profile the historic format while showing how the game has changed
I’m curious if what happened to Goat Format would happen to other formats? Like Tele-Dad format. I would expect Tele-Dad to be still be the best deck but maybe different?
time wizard profiles would be appreciated and could be their own playlist. maybe in the title put time wizard or modern in parenthesis. you could even give separate profiles, one new-one old. id at least like that
You don't want to swap apprentice magician in goat format because her effect actives on field so it gives your opponent a set faith not you. That ruling wasn't changed until after goat format.
Any deck that gets you into dark halter because you have the level 5 access is just a step ahead. As good as ter is, Balter is just the best and ryu is such a close second imo. I love metamorph in goat for this reason.
Wow. It took some research - but you're correct. That is something that the emphasis on modern Goat has certainly uncovered. It would change less than a year later but nevertheless - my bad.

Great profile as always! Honestly I'd be interested in building decks in a historical lense since I don't think anyone else does that.
