    Conductor:Yi-Hsuan Umy Chang 張亦萱
    Pianist:Weichi Huang 黃威齊
    Composer:Stephen Foster
    Arrangement:Jon Washburn
      史蒂芬.福斯特(Stephen Foster,1826-1864),美國民謠作曲家,一生創作約兩百首歌曲,其中有二十餘首成為美國經典民謠,後人尊稱他為「美國民謠之父」。除美國民謠之外,尚有英國民謠風的抒情歌曲、內戰歌曲、敘事歌曲、主日學讚美詩、滑稽歌曲等。代表作品包括〈噢!蘇珊娜〉、Camptown Races〈康城賽馬〉、My Old Kentucky Home〈肯塔基老家鄉〉等。
    Jeanie with the Light Brown Hair〈金髮珍妮〉
    本曲出版於 1854 年,是史蒂芬與妻子分居一年後,思念妻子之作。歌詞中的珍妮(Jeanie) 是前妻的小名。一開始由男聲唱出主題,彷彿作者心中的思慕;而後女聲加入,描繪出珍妮迷人可愛的模樣,只可惜一切只是夢。全曲洋溢福斯特對愛妻珍妮的思慕與純情。
    I dream of Jeanie with the light brown hair,
    Borne, like a vapor on the summer air;
    I see her tripping where the bright streams play,
    Happy as the daisies that dance on her way.
    Many were the wild notes her merry voice would pour,
    Many were the blithe birds that warbled them o’er.
    I dream of Jeanie with the light brown hair,
    Floating like a vapor on the soft summer air.
    Camptown Races〈康城賽馬〉
    〈康城賽馬〉是滑稽歌曲代表作品,將賽馬的情景描繪得生動有趣。全曲輪流以男高音和女聲呈現賭客主題,背景源源不絕的「Doo Dah」聲是啦啦隊的加油聲,與主題交相呼應,將馬場賽事的氣氛提升到最高點。
    Te Camptown ladies sing this song,
    Doo-dah! Doo-dah!
    Te Camptown race track fve mile long,
    I come down there with my hat caved in,
    I go back home with a pocket full of tin,
    Te long tail flly and the big black hoss,
    Doo-dah! Doo-dah!
    Tey fly the track and they both cut across,
    Te blind hoss sticken in a big mud hole,
    He can’t touch bottom with a ten-foot pole,
    Goin’ to run all night!
    Goin’ to run all day!
    I’ll bet my money on the bobtail nag,
    Somebody bet on the bay!
    Ol’ muley cow come on the track,
    Doo-dah! Doo-dah!
    Te bobtail fling her o’er his back
    Ten fly along like a railroad car,
    Runnin’ a race with a shootin’ star.
    Goin’ to run all night!
    Goin’ to run all day!
    I’ll bet my money on the bobtail nag,
    Somebody bet......
    My Old Kentucky Home〈肯塔基老家鄉〉
    〈肯塔基老家鄉〉獲譽為「福斯特最吸引人的懷舊作品」,並在 1928 年成為肯塔基州的州歌。
    Te sun shines bright in the old Kentucky home,
    ‘Tis summer, all cares fly away;
    Te corntop’s ripe and the meadow’s in the bloom,
    While the birds make music all the day.
    Te young folks roll on the little cabin floor,
    All merry all happy and bright;
    By’n by hard times comes a knockin’ at the door,
    Ten my old Kentucky home, good night.
    O weep no more my lady,
    O weep no more today!
    We will sing this song
    For the old Kentucky home,
    For the old Kentucky home, far away.
    Beautiful Dreamer〈夢中佳人〉
    〈夢中佳人〉 是福斯特死後才問世的作品,據說是其生前最後一首歌。當時他的經濟狀況極差,妻女都離開他。在這樣困境下,福斯特寫出了這首情感強烈、真誠卻又平靜的作品。全曲使用少見的 9/8 拍節奏,歌曲中不斷重複的旋律,像是一次次呼喚著美麗的夢中人。或許是想將她從睡夢中喚醒,或許是想喚回已永久長眠的愛人。
    Beautiful dreamer, wake unto me,
    Starlight and dewdrops are waiting for thee,
    Sounds of the rude world heard in the day,
    Lull’d by the moonlight have all passed away!
    Beautiful dreamer,
    Queen of my song,
    List while I woo thee, with soft melody;
    Gone are the cares of life’s busy throng,
    Beautiful dreamer, awake unto me!
    Beautiful dreamer, awake unto me!
    Oh! Susanna〈噢!蘇珊娜〉
    〈噢!蘇珊娜〉 是福斯特於 1848 年為遊唱表演而作的曲子,翌年爆紅成為加州淘金者的進行曲。本曲發行以前,還未有歌可以銷售超過五千份,但〈噢!蘇珊娜〉 就賣了超過十萬份,可見當時這首歌的風靡程度。全曲明朗輕快,描寫一個揹著斑鳩琴的男人,從阿拉巴馬到路易斯安納尋找愛人。
    I come from Alabama
    With my banjo on my knee,
    I’m goin’ to lou’siana now,
    My true love for to see.
    It rain’d all night the day I left,
    Te weather it was dry;
    Te sun so hot I froze to death,
    Susanna, don’t you cry.
    Oh! Susanna,
    Oh! Don’t you cry for me;
    I come from Alabama
    With my banjo on my knee,
    I had a dream the other night,
    When ev’rything was still,
    I thought I saw Susanna dear acomin’down the hill.
    Te buckwheat cake was in her mouth,
    Te tear was in her eye;
    I says I’m comin’ from the south,
    Susanna, don’t you cry.
    Oh! Susanna,
    Oh! Don’t you cry for me;
    I come from Alabama
    With my banjo on my knee.

    嘩!
    Beautiful dreamer 和 Oh!Susanna 我從國中開始唱了好幾十年, 到今天才知道是同一個作曲家呢!而且是美國人, 還以為是英國人呢!
    有回到童年和青少年的感覺。
    此外, 這 choir 實在太精彩了。給你們一個讚!

    You folks have beautiful harmony. A terrific performance, I greatly enjoyed it. Stephen Foster was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pa. as I was too.

    Exquisite. Beautiful! I imagine it was quite a job, working through both the language difference, and Foster's original offensive, racist lyrics. You did a wonderful job!

      The fact that neither party is willing to compromise on a set way is the issue. Our founding fathers intended for a unanimous compromise, which evolved into the silly way it is now, where next to no compromise is met. Whomever wins and becomes the president will have a hard time because of the virus, regardless of political leaning. Frankly, since you voiced your opinion, I feel as though I should too. Lately, all of the candidates have been kinda sucky. Yes, ALL. No slander on only one party. A sad truth is there are other parties in the democratic system we have, but most of the population is hyper focused on the main two sides. The third parties exist too, and (even though I haven't decided yet) I lean moreso a third party this upcoming election.

      One year after your post, inflation is biting us hard. How we wish dominion voting machines not being used in the midterm election of 2022. Can we get rid of political parties?
      "On December 17, 2020, Gallup polling found that 31% of Americans identified as Democrats, 25% identified as Republican, and 41% as Independent."
      God bless America!

      @@sylvasia8287 This vid still slaps. I still think about performing this in my middle school choir.
      Right, back when I commented it was certainly not like that. America, the Inflation Nation. I still believe we should start considering the other parties, but the main problem with that is the extremists on either side will blame every issue on whatever President is in office for any problem that arises rather than the true origin of said problems. I will admit some of the problems can be pinned on a President, but certainly not every single one like some tend to claim. For instance, the virus I mentioned a year ago, that's a virus that spread like...a virus, not a thing invented by the Trump or Biden campaign to swing any elections. We're a crazy nation, but I tend to focus on the less so crazy out there
