The estimate metres remaining makes sense to me if you think in terms of altitude from where you are to the endpoint, when you go downhill you then have more elevation still to climb to get to the end. Hopefully Garmin can add an equivalent function.

I'm not entirely sure that battery life is a huge issue. I routinely get about an 8% battery "decay" per hour... so the battery life will equate to 9-11 hours, even though I have PM/Cadence sensosr (three different brands on three different bikes), Di2, Varia, HRM, and Spd/Distance sensors on almost every ride. I suspect that Karoo's battery life has become more of an issue because it is displayed quite prominently on the screen and that people (like me) start to panic when it goes down. I really think it would be unusual to run a fully charge Karoo to zero. I will note that I also quite often don't charge the Karoo between shorter rides, but I do try to make sure I have a full charge for long rides.

This will work really well where I live, since there's usually only one way to get on a climb, not a lot of grid-type roads where the important climbs are.
Should be noted that predictive climb seems to only work if the base map includes a marked trail. I've done several gravel rides where climbs have not been detected, the difference being no 'dotted' trail line, ie 'off-piste' random gravel riding could be hit or miss.

I’ve abandoned the Garmin ship and ordered one of these. My friends swear by it. On the Garmin it underrated my elevation by 30-40% per ride, I have to correct via Strava base map. Also, 50% of the time, live segments don’t fire. I have tried everything but it’s so buggy and non user friendly. Can’t wait to try the Karoo 2!
As a new Road cyclist. I am new to these cycle computers. Bought what I thought was the best (garmin 1040) but I don’t get the hype. It’s like using a 12 year old smart phone with a crap screen. I mean I don’t remember the last time I could visibly see pixels in a device that costs me 600. Shocking. I was going to get the Karoo 2 but since I watched your video on them dropping di2 support I decided against it. Still considering selling the 1040 and just going for the Karoo. Do you need the map screen set up with elevation on the bottom of the screen for this to work or will it automatically load at the bottom of the screen if I have only the map on view thanks

What I'm going at is; whenever climber or garmin version pops up, you can't see any data anymore of what you are pushing. Is that something that could be addressed or is it a take it or leave it option?
Doubt whether those units have the computational power to do this detection on the fly... The Karoo has quite beefy hardware if I'm not mistaken. The trade off is battery life / a rather big head unit.
I think Garmin are best positioned to do this. They already have popularity routing overlays on their maps. As for the computational capacity (that Lukas brings up).... I'm not so sure it'd be possible with their existing hardware.
Dunno. The Garmin units can detect Strava segment starts on the fly. This is not much different, except that you have to store these climbs somewhere in advance. Btw, if Garmin is working on this, they should enable Strava segments while navigating with the same update.
I've side-loaded AZ Screen Recorder on the Karoo units. I then use Final Cut on the Mac and VIRB Edit on Windows to combine everything together and put the recorded overlays on screen. It's a bit of work to get together.
Wow, this feature is big. After all navigation devices were initially designed to lead you through unknown terrain, or so I like to think.
