1. I don't think that's depressing. I actually think that was really smart of him, and is good to keep in mind for new game devs looking to get into making games. Don't aim for perfection at the start, aim for great and get it out instead of aiming for perfection and wasting time. Steam has done some bad stuff as well and I think it'd have been interesting to talk about. Oh, well.

"People will buy content legally when it's convenient and easy to do so" Wise words... wise words. Steam stoped me from pirating a lot of stuff. Specially games ofc. Just today I added 5USD to my wallet cuz I want a game and a friend of mine was like "why don't you just pirate it?" and I didn't want to. The game it's cheap. I support the developers directly and it takes me like five clicks to get it and I have 100% warranty that the game will work perfectly. I don't have to dig on the ad-filled piracy pages. I don't have to worry about downloading a virus or slow download rates due to servers download limits, I can delete the game and re-install it as much times as I want and of top of that if on the first two hours of gameplay I'm not convinced I can ask for a refund and I'll get it no questions asked. Seriously, now that I think about it, Steam is almost heaven-like when it comes to games. Even AAA games are cheaper. What's not to love?
The irony that Gabe left Microsoft because it transitioned from a “cool, agile software company” to “evil empire status.” The exactly same thing can be said about Valve nowadays.
Muhammad Nazrin: Valve has done and has let a lot of bad things to happen. They didn’t allowed refunds of games no matter what, until the EU pressured them to enable refunds as it is illegal to not offer refund options to customers. They also allowed for a long time the gambling of CS:GO skins as it was very profitable for them, but they started to ban such acts as soon as a controversy exploded. Also, they have a huge problem with shovelware that they simply don’t want to acknowledge. The Greenlight system was partially a failure because they refuse to throughly check the software these garbage companies upload to the service. And simply because they don’t longer create games. It is a thousand times easier just to collect sales money of Steam than actually create games. That is why many of the big creative people that were at Valve left the company. It is no longer their priority. They stopped being a “cool agile software company”.
That refund policies, can I have a source on that? That CSGO gambling, yeah, same like dota too, but its better late than never. Greenlight system is a problem, sure. We can only hope they improve that in the future. Actually, my main complaint is Valve fanboy bitching just because Valve simply don't want to make games. What's wrong with that? You want a yearly franchise like COD? A great series that turn into a more shitty version of itself ala AC? An incomplete sequel like MGSV? Come on, it's Valve, they can shit out more game if they wanted too. Valve use flat management. Their employees are free to move to other projects. If no one want to develop HL3 or Portal 3, it will not be developed. If you want an example of evil company, EA,KONAMI should be on the list. They have done more atrocity than Valve.
I remember that time Valve wanted to charge players for mods. Oh, and they freaking murdered Steam Machines. Valve has done a lot of good overall, but they are far from perfect.
It's actually more on Bethesda's fault. They see the popularity of Skyrim mod and try to monetize it. But we know what happen then. Gabe wasn't behind that one.
Shamefully there is not much story behind it. CD Project is largest Polish publisher known from decent quality of releases. They studio RED was created to promote them, what mean that making the mony isn't they top priority = quality. Witcher series is in fact a adaptation/sequel of famous Polish dark fantasy series dating back to 1986.
So this video really demonstrates Bill Gates's long history of cringey advertisement and promotion. Can't fault that guy for much, but it is pretty funny.
Marc Laidlaw was the original writer of the Half-Life series, and he is an ex employee. He released his original idea for Half-Life 2: Episode 3 (or HL3) almost a year after he quit.
Who know? Currently Half-Life franchise is least important part of Valve property. Two previous games were revolutionary (HL2 less then first game) and I think Gabe simply concluded that there is no point of doing that if some people wold be disappointed anyway.
It’s funny that gabe caused the whole “windows is the gaming OS”, where now his company is fighting tooth and nail to now make Linux and steamOS the new gaming OS
You know, people keep giving Steam shit for its bad customer service or how they make money, but it is still the best service and you would rather use it than go to GameStop.
This video is really well made. Love the portal music at the end! Really enjoyed it. I honestly think that this a iwata video is brilliant! I'd love more videos into game developers themselfs.

Some of these pics of gabe are priceless
cd projekt red episode?
Shamefully there is not much story behind it. CD Project is largest Polish publisher known from decent quality of releases. They studio RED was created to promote them, what mean that making the mony isn't they top priority = quality. Witcher series is in fact a adaptation/sequel of famous Polish dark fantasy series dating back to 1986.
TheRezro good points, I just liked the story from translators and retailers to developers, but you’re right, not exactly a long story.
Missed opportunity with the title: Did You Know Gaben
So this video really demonstrates Bill Gates's long history of cringey advertisement and promotion. Can't fault that guy for much, but it is pretty funny.
With all of the remakes, and re-releases of Skyrim, I think it is safe to say that Todd Howard is technically a fan-boy of Skyrim.
So when does Valve release HL3?
Never, an ex (or not I forget) valve employee who worked on half life 3 released the current script and claimed they are not working on it.
Marc Laidlaw was the original writer of the Half-Life series, and he is an ex employee.
He released his original idea for Half-Life 2: Episode 3 (or HL3) almost a year after he quit.
After Left 4 Dead 3
When the apocalypse comes.
Who know? Currently Half-Life franchise is least important part of Valve property. Two previous games were revolutionary (HL2 less then first game) and I think Gabe simply concluded that there is no point of doing that if some people wold be disappointed anyway.
He follows his dream, never let anything goes to his head and keep going for new heights, impressive
1:00 OMG GabeN was thin when he was young? O_O
It’s funny that gabe caused the whole “windows is the gaming OS”, where now his company is fighting tooth and nail to now make Linux and steamOS the new gaming OS
TIL I share a birthday with our lord and savior
This is a really good video. It’s like 60minutes without the whole interview thing. Every well made vid guys gg

I knew Gabe Newell was important to the gaming world, but I never realized he was THAT important.
You know, people keep giving Steam shit for its bad customer service or how they make money, but it is still the best service and you would rather use it than go to GameStop.
Only thing I can complain about is that it makes it too easy to purchase games when you're drunk and bored lol
I really enjoy the videos based on significant people within the games industry. I hope to someday see one on Miyamoto.
9:58 wtf
This is the best did you know gaming ive ever watched. and all hail lord Gabe
Remember when Gaben leaked his steam account? and Gaben hates the number 3
Mestergamer Let's pray for Half Life 4
I can be reached at GabeN
This video is really well made. Love the portal music at the end! Really enjoyed it. I honestly think that this a iwata video is brilliant! I'd love more videos into game developers themselfs.
LordGaben
I liked that the end of the video, the opera of the portal 2 turrets was heard
Seriously Gabe, you don't have the resources to finish Half-Life 3? A game that will sell 20 million copies on Steam? Get with it man!
Steam make him way more money then that.
Miyamoto, Notch, Gabe, and many others have impacted the video game world as we know it.
