- Опубліковано 6 жов 2024
- Tokopah Falls is a 1,200 foot cascading waterfall in Sequoia National Park. The trail to the waterfall is 4 miles round trip and it walks along the Kaweah River as you make your way back to the falls. It is one of the most popular hikes in the park and here is a video of my dad and I's recent trip there.

I was blessed to have a Father who cared enough to take his children to this and many other National Parks. When one considers how difficult and not always interested children are sometimes, his love for us was demonstrated. I miss him.
Thanks for sharing that memory. My dad was instrumental in helping develop my love for the outdoors as well and I really appreciate him for that!
I guess I am kinda randomly asking but does anybody know of a good website to stream new movies online ?
@Keaton Davion meh try flixportal. Just search on google for it :) -yosef
@Yosef Reese Thank you, I signed up and it seems like a nice service :D I really appreciate it!
@Keaton Davion you are welcome :)
You guys are so underrated!
Very kind of you to say!
That red plant is called commonly Snowplant. It’s very striking. I first saw it in Lake Tahoe. It’s all over the sierras. It thrives in snowy climates. I love sequoia. It was my first national park adventure when I first moved to CA in 1985. It holds a special place in my heart. Thanks for sharing this hike.
Thanks for the information! That was the first time I had seen one
That red flower plant looking thing is called a Snow Plant.
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks. I have 1 video up on my channel and it's in it. They are weird alien plants trying to... well idk what they're up to. But they sure are cool. :)
Yes, a snow plant. They grow immediately after the snow thaw and don't last long after. I camp host at table mountain campground told us about it. My kids thought it was the plant from guardians of the galaxy. Sherman Trail from lodgepole is a nice trail. We saw a bear on the trail this year.
The snow plant is a Parasitic plant
Always enjoy when your Dad is in your videos. A nice family hike!
Thanks, it has been fun to travel with him so much!
Josh, we did this trail after watching your video. It is every bit as cool as it appears and to top it all we saw a momma bear with cubs which was a moment we will never forget.
I live in California and haven't visited half of the places you've been!
Glad to be able to show you so many new spots!
3:08 This is called a snow plant! I once encountered one on mount waterman in the San Gabriel mountains. From what I’ve seen, they seem to grow in pairs.
I just went there today too. I went to Grant Grove, Grizzly fall and Roaring River fall. I just did easy one only. The park is so beautiful and so big. i wish i can camp there one day.
Yeeees! Those are beautiful spots right off the road. I'm trying this hike next time. :)
One day we'll try the rae lakes loop... ;)
Those are beautiful spots, as is the drive into the canyon!
Beautiful hike . I’ve hiked it many times. Late spring early summer best time to hike to see the full water fall.
Love your content! Hope to visit Cali one day!
You should totally check out Redwood Canyon in King's Canyon National Park, it's an hour-ish north of lodgepole and is the largest grove of Sequoia in the world with some wonderful trails going through it!
Correct! I loved it too
Oh wow, thanks for the tip, sounds amazing!
Went on this hike in November! Water was a trickle and the pool underneath had a layer of frozen ice. Loved it.
Oh wow, that would have been cool to see with the ice!
I think that is Ice Plant at 3:16. What a nice hike. One day we will have to do that one. Thanks for sharing!
I appreciate the info you provide about each location and I mostly watch your videos through to end because they are interesting and of good quality. I like the music too!
I can no longer walk on anything that isn't completely flat so thank you for doing these hikes in our beautiful nat'l and state parks.
No problem, glad you enjoy them!
It is an impressive waterfall, especially when you pointed out the people in the distance closer to the falls - wow! Loved that red plant and the water just flowing across the rocks on the hike. Thanks for another awesome video Josh!
Great video. Brought back memories when my wife and I walked that’ trail.
Love that trail! Definitely a highlight of the park. We also saw marmots and some door when we were there. Thanks for bringing up the memories!
It was one of our scariest hikes ever, though, as we did not realize that a storm had followed us up the valley. Just as we turned around at the end of the trail all hell broke loose: lightning und thunder, pouring rain like we were IN the falls. Luckily some of those boulders you mention gave us cover and when the worst was over we sprinted back to the car in no time.
Oh man, that is a crazy story and experience. Thanks for sharing it!
I love your videos. Can’t wait to visit this beautiful place. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
I've hiked the trail that passes along the top of The Watchtower. The views are incredible and the trail is very exposed in some places. It leads to some beautiful lakes in the upper valley. I highly recommend it.
We were there 2 years ago and the water was down to a small stream, we made it all the way to the rocks where the waterfall would be. It was great.
Thank you for helpful information in this video.
Thank you for the video! I have an upcoming Sequoia/Kings Canyon National Park trip coming up later this month and seeing this is making me even more excited to go 😀
Awesome! I have two more videos on the park I am sharing this week
I really loved my time in Sequoia NP. I hope to get back one day for further exploration!
I would love to spend more time exploring in the future as well. I feel like it is one of those parks that you keep finding more and more in.
Been to Sequoia twice and didn't know about this hike. Thank you! Doing it next time for sure
Finished this hike 2 weeks ago! The hike is really easy and I got to see two bear cubs. You'll be close to the water where I saw many people play and swim in. Be careful not to slip on the smooth and slippery rocks! Bring a mask because many people will be there.
I forgot the exact name of the trail but i think its called Baldy trail or something like that. Short trail but it had an amazing view at the end.
Looks absolutely beautiful. I love exploring and photographing/ filming all the beautiful spots in California too. You’ve inspired many of my trips!
That's great to hear! California is beautiful and I am glad you are exploring and documenting it as well!
Just came back from camping around that area for 4th of July... Can't believe I missed it...
I just hiked this trail about two weeks ago. Falls weren’t as glowing as you showed in the video, BUT it was still amazing nonetheless!!!
Thanks! I’ve stayed at lodge pole twice but never made trip to falls. Next time.
Terrific video, Josh! There's a reason the Tokopah Falls Trail is so popular -- it's an excellent hike suitable for a wide range of hikers. I'd also recommend the Little Baldy Trail (great view from the summit) and the beautiful but relatively undiscovered Moro Rock Trail (trailhead is near the Giant Trees Museum).
Great suggestions, I have actually done both of those trails and they are both fantastic. Thanks for stopping by and for leaving a comment!
Little Baldy, Big Baldy, and Buena Vista Peak are all great short hikes in the SEKI area
I hiked on that trail last year. On my way back I saw a black bear hunting two deers. I think the bear was still pretty young and it was just in a playfull way though. Kind regards from Germany.
Wow, that sounds like an incredible experience, thanks for sharing it with me!
I've been to Sequoia and stayed at the Wishon campground for 4 days. I swam in a much calmer and safer part of the river and it was beautiful.
Hope to visit someday! The falls look beautiful.
It is a beautiful hike in the park! I hope you can visit someday as well.
I wanna go to all these places.. Thanks for making these videos!
Thank you for this! This is the waterfall I have been eyeing after the latest waterfall I have seen close to Yosemite.
Glad you enjoyed it! It was my first time visiting this waterfall and it was great!
The Muir Grove trail out of Dorst Creek Campground 4 miles out and back. Beautiful Giant Sequoia Grove with out the big crowds!
Great video! That's a beautiful trail. If you haven't done Little Baldy trail, I highly recommend.
I have done it, but it has been a while. I would love to do it again!
Great hike. Hope to visit this place soon. Wonderful video. Thanks for sharing! ❤️
Thanks for watching!
what a beautiful place
It really is!
I did this hike last Summer with my family, and we saw a couple of black bears, which were my grandson's first bear sightings on a trail. Pretty nice!
Just hiked this trail a few weeks ago! ran into a snake along the way and some marmots too! Definitely a beautiful hike
It really is! That's crazy you saw a snake as well
The Crescent Meadow Loop hike is a peaceful and easy hike (all flat basically). I went last year in May and only ran into 2-3 people the entire hike.
Fantastic, another Trail to ad to my bucket list.
SO many beautiful trails in that park!
No way you have a UA-cam ! I was always reading your website !!! Awesome content !
You are the best. Best wishes!
Thanks, you too!
Loving your videos! Visiting Sequoia this week and this hike is on my list, thanks!
Have fun! The park is beautiful to explore!
Very pretty, Thank you for posting 🪴
Nice video. This one reminds me of a hike to Water Well falls in Yosemite. You really should plan that one and there is more than one waterfalls on the way.
That is an awesome area, I have been once when it was not flowing too much. I would love to go back
Our beautiful California
First, let me just say I freakin’ love your channel! I hiked to Heather and Pear Lakes via the Watchtower trail last summer and I’ve gotta say it’s the best hike there is in Sequoia NP. You should totally do it!😊
I've always wanted to do the hike to the lakes. Which route do you recommend? I've heard there's 2 ways you can go
DayTrip Adventure definitely the Watchtower trail because of the views, but it gets closed during the winter season due to the snow.
Awesome! Thank you!
Thanks so much for the suggestion, would love to do that hike!
Oh! Would love to be there!!
Perfect timing. We are going there next week!!!
Awesome, I have another video today and one on Friday about the park as well.
Thank you, Josh! This one is going on my bucket list! 😊👍
Awesome, I hope you enjoy it!
Thank you for the information.
Check out Crescent Meadow and Tharps Tree. Also sunset Rock and Hospital Rock on your way out of the park.
Awesome thanks, I have never done any of those!
Si beautiful, on my list.
🥾🥾
Josh - coming to California... would love some cool suggestions - did San Francisco & LA , you should charge people to take them places , the Great California Guilde ...
haha, I don't think I would be a good guide, but I have lots of great spots on the website if you are looking for new places to explore.
Love your videos!
Hi Josh, love all of your videos they are really helping with planning our California road trip! I’m just wondering how accessible this trail is in the winter time (we will be visiting in early/mid December) Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺
Thanks for the comment. It totally depends on the year. Some years there is no snow and it is fine, others there is a lot. I would recommend checking as it gets closer to your trip.
This is one of my favorites! Keep up the great work your killing it!
Thanks, really appreciate it!
We were there today!!! Must’ve missed you. Unless you saw me fishing the river in Lodgepole Campground. I was the guy with the GoPro on my head.
So awesome that you were there as well! This was actually a few weeks ago for us.
Gotcha. Water is still flowin. Next time you come to San Diego area, reach out. I can show you around some local spots.
Great video thanks Don
Glad you enjoyed it
Another great video! Keep up the great work. I suggest you visit Buck Rock Fire Lookout.
Thanks for the tip! I visited there but it was a long time ago and I would love to go again!
Thanks Josh. I normally travel out of the country and due to covid, gave me an opportunity to explore my own backyard which I didn’t realize how beautiful. Thanks for sharing videos as it helps me plan my next trip. Btw, just hiked loch leven...you should check it out!
No problem, California is truly amazing. Loch leven looks stunning, thanks for sharing the tip!
I was just there on the 5th! Such a Beautiful Hike :).
It really is!
Love your content. Sequoia and Kings is one of my favorite places and i go there every year. Would love to see you do a trail vlog on Alta Peak. It's a big hike but the scenery is epic.
It is one the list to do sometime in the future. It looks like an epic hike, but I haven't been able to do it yet
I want this kind of notifications more often ! 😃
Thanks for the work 😉
So kind of you! I will be sharing two more videos on the park this week
My girlfriend left me and ran when she saw a bear cub coz you know the Mama bear 🐻 might be around. LOL. It was scorching hot when we hiked this falls I almost quit haha. The only way for shade is to hide under the big boulders of rock. Man, brings back memories! Keep the uploads going! I just Subscribed to support you 🤸♂️
Wow, sounds like a crazy trip! Thanks for subscribing
@@californiathroughmylens You're welcome, brother!
@@californiathroughmylens hey brother in a veteran living in Visalia. Innever have anyone to hike w or go the lake...if you would like a partner pls let me know. Also I know its no big deal but if we were in the same vehicle we both would have free admission...just fyi. Happy trail hunting my brother. May God bless you in your travels.
Thanks bro, this video was really helpful. Im going to Sequoia this Week!... anybody know of any other popular hiking trails in Sequoia?
The Lakes Trail,
one of the most popular hikes in Sequoia National Park, climbs through dense forest to a landscape of polished granite dotted with four beautiful lakes and set amid a backdrop of rugged ridges anchored by Alta Peak (11,204-ft.).
July 4th, I went on this trail up to the first lake which is Heather Lake (8.2 mile round trip). Peoples were swimming in the lake.
J P Nice! I will definitely check it out. Is it a off-trail? Thanks bro.
Well done, thanks for that Josh! Stay well Rox from Cali
Thanks for the comment!
Did this June 4th when the park reopened. No shade at the fall base
Hey Josh - I stumbled upon your videos a while ago and really enjoy them. I'm from CA & have been to some of the places you feature and it's nice to remember good times. Your videos are well done, giving enough info to the viewer but not overloading them. It's easy to sit back, relax and enjoy the journeys. Motivates me to get back to CA (now in AZ) & explore. I'm curious what you use to record your videos? Thanks and Keep up the good work!
Thanks for the comment and I am glad you like the videos! Here is all the gear I use ua-cam.com/video/3pCFB2qwBfM/v-deo.html
Moro Rock trail is amazing!
It is a great hike!
Do you ever fear for some unexpected wildlife appearance while hiking?
Also, what's the average budget for the mayority of your trips? Would you say national parks are expensive for a relatively complete experience?
Just wondering...
Great content!
Thanks for the comment. No, I don't have a fear of wildlife experiences on the trail. I have ton hundreds of hikes and never seen any real wildlife to watch out for other than snakes, which I am always careful around. For National Parks, I have the National Parks pass which is about $80 a year. This pass gets you into all the National Parks in the USA. The other costs would just be food, where you stay and gas. National Parks can be pretty cheap if you camp and pack your own food, but it does depend on how you travel. Hope that helps!
California Through My Lens, Awesome!
Cool.. love it. Thank You
I love this hike water fall amazing. Mist Falls is a great hike check it out.
Hey, just watched all of your videos for the Sequoia area. You didn’t mention where to eat. lol.
Love your videos! So helpful.
Your vlog is awesome very informative..
Glad you think so!
You should try hiking to pear lake from wolverton parking lot.
4 miles... i gotta do this. I live down the 180. I've been trying to get my son to go on more hikes with me. I think we can swing this :)
Oooooh ive seen that plant! Its in my one and only video. :)
Awesome, I hope you enjoy the hike!
Check out Heather Lake via Watchtower Trail. The lake is a real treat, a beautiful crystal clear oasis! One of my favorites. How busy is Sequoia right now? Was this over the holiday weekend?
Wow, that sounds awesome. Thanks for sharing! This was actually a few weeks back on a weekday and it was pretty empty. I am not sure how it is now though.
Wow, it's absolute beautiful. I'm camping in Sequoia in 2 weeks, do you have any other trail suggestions? Awesome vid!
Great video Josh!! Can I suggest you check out Murphy Ranch in pacific palisades
I went and visited like 5 years ago, but I would love to go back and see what it looks like now.
We went there last weekend and there was barely any water falling :( Thanks for this video though!
I've been to the top of the Watch Tower....something like 45 years ago.
nice one.
Bro I was at Sequoia yesterday! I visited General Sherman and Moro Rock
Awesome, I have videos of both those coming this week
Looks like a challenging hike, especially on a warm day. Can you add a link in your store for that neck piece/mask, looks like a good piece of gear to have, especially these days. Thanks.
Mine is pretty old so it looks like they don't really sell it anymore but it was kind of like this www.amazon.com/Columbia-Freezer-Zero-Neck-Gaiter/dp/B07DKZNVG3
You missed out on showing people jumping from a big rock at the base into the stream. Best way to cool off before heading back. That and a couple of beers!!!
Love your content so much
Thank you, I really appreciate that!
Hey! That is beautiful 😍 I love how empty it the trail looks. What time were you there at?
Thank you for adding a pin to my map 👏👏
beautiful! I was wondering if theres a place to scramble on upwards from the base of the waterfall? Also, are there pools you can dip in and enjoy? Thanks!
Yes! At the falls there is a rocky area on the banks of the falls. You can climb up that area for as far as you want. And yes, there are also many refreshing areas to dip, but you really have to be careful because the marble fork Kaweah River has super deadly rapids after the snow melts.
The red plant is Sarcodes sanguinea (or commonly known as snow plants). They are only found in CA, NV and OR. And they are sort of parasites of conifers, that why they are only found close to them😊
Oh man was it crowded since its the beginning of summer?
That’s a beautiful time to be there, unfortunately you and your dad happen to catch a heat wave
It was pretty warm when we were there but not too bad!
California Through My Lens ...I wished I’d known you were in the neighborhood..lol
