    So helpful. Two Dodge dealerships told me the only gasket for timing cover is that top triangle gasket. Pissed me off that the dealership don't have it and either oreilys.

    Hey, I know this is an older video but I wanted to say thanks. Using the earlier timing cover gasket, even though its more expensive, is so much easier and less leak prone that just squirting silicone over the whole thing. I just completed this job and it worked out great. Nice work!

    Just realized if that gasket leaks coolant internal it could be misdiagnosed as a head gasket since the coolant will get into the oil . That would suck .Thanks for the tip and the part number man!

    I just did this on my sons 2007 ram 1500 4.7. I bought both the metal gasket set and the 2nd design gasket set, for them both from amazon because they were half the cost of the parts stores.
    After pulling the cover off, I see that not only is it the flat faced timing cover, Dodge only used black RTV as the sole gasket material.
    After replacing the front oil seal, I hung the metal and silicone gasket on the locating dowels and just slid the timing cover back on and secured it with the top stud until I placed the other bolts in.
    The hardest part of the whole process was removing and installing the ac compressor and alternator.
    I did change the oil after because the block and the timing cover holds a lot of coolant and some did spill into the oil pan.
    Timing cover is dry for now and I’m hoping it will stay that way.
    Also, the 4600 gasket kit comes with the water pump gasket, thermostat gasket, oil seal, and two others that I don’t know where they would go.

    This gasket actually works great stopping any leaks, but I have found that it puts the crank/harmonic balancer pulley too close to the bottom bolts of the cover shredding the rubber off the back of it. I used the gasket on 05 Dodge Ram 1500 4.7 4x4. So I believe the issue is clearance when using this set on models later than 03. But still easier to install and lasts.

      @aguilaleon100 I'd say use it and change out harmonic balancer to a more sleek, thinner design to avoid clearance issue. That is what I ended up doing. Been fine ever since going on 5+ years now.

    Why would advance auto online says that gasket number doesn't match my 2005 Jeep Grand cherokee limited 4.7 v8? Yet amazon says it does lol Crazy shit! UPDATE: Ok Jeep Dealership said that after like 2002 they used only rtv from the factory. So they don't list a gasket for that year. But he said the gasket you told us to use will work. Mine just had brittle rtv pieces on inside edge that fell apart easily. Amazing it didn't leak worse! I had lots of oil leaking out around the bottom and coolant leaking inside the oil pan.

    Do you need to drain the engine oil when doing this? Of course you need to drain the coolant, but wondering if you also need to drain the oil, or is the oil only down in the pan therefore no need to drain it?
    Thanks and great video!

      I would suggest doing an oil change after doing this to make sure there was no coolant that got on the oil by accident

    I replaced the driver side valve cover gasket on my Dodge 4.7 because I could smell heated oil in the cab and it looked like the gasket may be leaking. There's still oil coming down on the frame underneath the driver seat frame area so I don't think the valve cover gasket was the issue. Could this be the intake manifold gasket or the timing cover gasket leaking?? Are there any hoses that could be cracked and leaking oil? Just trying to find out of some ideas of where else I can look for this leak.

    Did you have to use the miller 6635 tool on this? Or would you recommend how you did it? I’m reading that you have to use this tool to align to cover so it’s concentric on the crankshaft.

      So, you used the FelPro 46000 gasket with a little silicone and it worked? Or, you bought a different gasket not shown in the video? • @davidrhine8562

    • @livenfree
      @livenfree 4 роки тому

      @@davidrhine8562 took to a shop. Their telling me. There is a coolant leak out the timing cover going onto the ground. Pondering stop leak? Also saying they believe the oil sump may be plugged causing lack of oil pressure on the passenger side thus causing lifters not to lift & rocker arms to pop out. Mechanic said it's common issue with this engine. U heard of this?

    • @centurian318
      @centurian318 Рік тому

      The springs in the lifters collapse and then the rocker arms start coming off. I replaced all 16 lifters in my sons truck last month. It’s not hard to do, just a pain in the ass. I suggest taking the brake booster off the fire wall, it’s just 4 nuts and a clip and will open up a lot of room on the driver’s side.
