    Awesome review Barry, thank you! I really like how thorough you are on your topics,,, you cover all the details! I think my next one will be the 1143 gcx like you got for beads, as a backup to my e6x1145! Thanks for putting up the new power chart! Awesome video😊thank you

      Thanks for the feedback! I will be packing one of each for a while to see if I notice much difference. The tangle free guides are intriguing, I don’t get a lot of tip wrap with power pro SS, but it happens.

      @@miketorre16 Nice! Stella! Wow. I love that GCX lite I bought for trout fishing and am eager to get this steelhead rod out. The rivers are on a good drop now so hopefully by next week. Good luck with that new rod, sounds like an incredible setup. 🎣

      @@RAGEFISHING thank you. I will use it for bass/trout/pickerel. I had the 4K Stella for 2 years. Bullet proof, smooth, powerful even for 22inch snook. And sensitive for panfish. Lol. So I will retire my Expride and use the GCX Inshore.
      I also have a 6K Stella on an IMX Pro Blue. That should be nasty for big bluefish/ Stripers anything for Long Island Sound and the guy who sold it told me, says its good for 30lb Tuna.
      Im switching all to G Loomis Rods. I hope I like them.

      @ you should like them, I haven’t had one disappoint me, I’m at 31 models and counting. 😁 Mostly steelhead, bass and trout rods. I have a couple IMX steelhead rods and 2 IMX bass rods; super sensitive, lightweight and strong.

      @ The old joke goes, ‘Don’t let my fishing gear fool you, I’m broke.’ 😄 To be fair, I started collecting them 25 years ago. The first one, a GL2 trout rod in the 90’s, proved to me their quality. I still own and use it. Happy New Year to you as well. 🎣

    GCX, huh? Ok, i guess i need to pick one up, then. I'm hard on guides, just not as careful as i once was. The stems on the GCX guides look plenty thick. Same GLoomis quality. I want to get a centerpin rod. I'd like to try that way. It seems you can make more subtle adjustments to your float speed, leading to more takedowns. That's what im told anyhow. But its a bigger investment than most other tactics, so I'll wait a bit as i still dont have my wish list completed. Its pretty much your gear list! 😅 Another stellar review, Barry. GLoomis is certainly getting a lot of mileage out of the rods you buy. They should make you a field tester, and they should put you on their Pro Staff. Thanks for the review!

    • @RAGEFISHING
      @RAGEFISHING  17 днів тому

      I’d love to be a field tester, are you out there Loomis? I’m your guy! 😁
      These rods do look nice and a step up from the E6X. Dave had the chance to look at it last night and said it looks better than the E6X, in appearance anyway.
      I’ve never fished with a centerpin, so I can’t help you there. A lot of guys swear by it though. I’m so used to my style of fishing, I just stick with it. 😉

    Good review 👍🏻. That said I’m never spending that kind of money on a fishing rod 😂. To each their own but I’m not all about the newest “best” big thing. Been catching salmon on my 8’6” medium ugly casting rod for over twenty years and my Shakespeare tiger stick 8-15 medium action spinning rod for like 18-19 years. Caught plenty of 20+ lb chinook on both in tidewater and upper river. Even caught quite a few sturgeon on the 10-20lb ugly stick. I will never understand why you guys spend that much 😂 and I’ve used my buddies g-loomis rod a few times. Didn’t see what the hype was about

    • @RAGEFISHING
      @RAGEFISHING  16 днів тому +1

      Thank you. Now as for why I spend that much money on equipment, Steelhead Fishing is my number one passion. Because of that, I want to fish with the best equipment possible and am willing to pay the price. You certainly don’t have to, I’ve caught steelhead with inexpensive rods, and I would never belittle anyone for using them. Good luck this season! 🎣

    Phenomenal video! I really like the Loomis rods and would like to get a spoon fishing rod set up for coastal tributaries and streams.
    I am looking at these two 8' 6" G Loomis rods (to avoid the overhang and be more accurate) and wanted to get your thoughts: Casting | GCX 1023-2C STR or Spinning | GCX 1022-2S STR
    It seems that most of your rods are spinning rods set up with Shimano Vanford 3000 spinning reels.
    Do you ever use a bait caster reel for spoons, or do you mainly use a spinning reel for spoons? and why?
    Which Shimano bait casting model would you recommend for the casting rod if I went that route?
    Thank you!

    • @RAGEFISHING
      @RAGEFISHING  12 днів тому +1

      Thank you Paul! I definitely like 8’6” rods for spinner and spoon fishing. Most of the time I’m packing an old GL3 8’6” medium power spinning rod, the 1024S, which actually has a Stradic 2500 on it. Not that I think that’s a better reel than the Vanford, it’s just the last reel I bought for that rod. I use that rod for lower water conditions so I can go down to a size 3 spinner and still cast it well.
      I have 2 different 8’6” GL2 casting models for bigger spinners and spoons, the 1024C, same specs as my spinning rod. It has a Shimano Curado 201 E7 on it which is an old model, but still going strong. I also have a 1025C which is the medium heavy, I’ve used this with the same model Curado for heavier spoons. This rod is probably closest in specs to the GCX 1023C.
      Why I like a casting reel for spinners and spoons is the ability to extend my drifts, by opening the spool and thumbing it to dig those lures deep as it swings. Just like drift fishing in which I also use a casting rod, an old Steelhead Series 1045C.
      So I’m on the fence with you about which way to go. I wish I could afford to buy the whole lineup so I could give better advice. Since they aren’t even stocked in any local store, I can’t even get a feel for them.
      Here’s what I’d say, that 1022 is probably an incredible rod for most circumstances. I forgot to mention it in the video, but Jesse said the Mag Medium means it’s almost an Extra Fast Action, but has a softer tip, that’s intriguing. You can still open the bail occasionally to extend drifts with a spinning reel, but you temporarily lose feel.
      Now if you like the thought of a casting rod for the ability to work the spoons down easier by freespooling, that 1023C with a new Curado 201 would be what I would choose. (I have one on a bass rod, awesome reel.) I like the 201 size which is the left hand retrieve. (The Curado 200 is the right hand retrieve.) The 201 size is perfect for steelhead. The 1023C would also be a more suitable drift fishing rod for the same reasons.
      I hope this helps! Just buy them both! 😁 Good luck and let me know if you have any more questions.

    Which one would you recommend for twitching jig?

    • @RAGEFISHING
      @RAGEFISHING  11 днів тому

      They don’t offer a twitching rod in the GCX, but have 2 models in the IMX, which would be awesome! I have a couple IMX steelhead rods, they are incredible. Looks like they have a 7’6” Mag Light for $350 MSRP, and 7’9” Mag Medium for $365. Here’s the link to their website: www.gloomis.com/products/imx-twitch

    Man we are complete opposites on the "cheaper" Loomis rods. I picked up a Loomis e6x 8-12 lbs steelhead rod. Wanted another okuma guide select pro but the store was out so got the e6x. That rod feels like a broomstick. Zero sensitivity. Hand to god my old Berkley Air IM8 rods were better. I cant feel lead ticking the bottom of a river, I can't feel the thump of a spinner. Nothing. It's a dead stick. Its now just a bobber rod. It honestly feels more like a 10-20lb or a 12-25lb rod. It's so stiff and stout.
    I feel like you get more bang for your buck with a "medium quality" companies high end rods (like okuma)more than a "high quality" companies lower end products. I feel like okuma guide select pro and X series rods are far superior to Loomis lower end rods. I think high end companies rely on their name to put out a lower quality product while the "medium quality" companies like okuma will go all out on their higher end stuff to show people they can make good stuff too. And that's where I feel the best bang for your buck is found. If i spend $300+ on another rod it will for sure be another X series but even the guide select pro's have been fantastic for me and I own several of them.
    Oh I also got a temple fork outfitters steeldriver rod this last summer, 9' 8-15lb casting rod and landed several springers and lots of steelhead on it and it's fantastic too! And it's cork handle which i do love. Im gona look more at them as well in the coming years.

      That’s strange, I love those rods. I bought my first 2 E6X rods about 5-6 years ago, the gen. 1 versions in the 1142 light power and 1143 medium light. I replaced them with the Gen. 2 models in the 1143 and 1145, then added two 9’ models. I gave my Gen. 1 rods to Dave, who always fished Berkley rods. He couldn’t believe the difference in rod weight and feel compared to his old rods.
      I don’t doubt other rod companies make good rods, I bought the Okuma Guide Selects for Salmon trolling and Kokanee Blacks for Kokanee due to their low price. Don’t like synthetics at all for most of my fishing, tried an American Lamiglas and Strykers with synthetics, didn’t like either and sold them.
      I’m eager to feel how the GCX compares to the E6X on the river.

      Thank you, it was in stock so I got it pretty fast. I ordered it from G.Loomis / Shimano shortly after they came out, I’ve had it for a couple months. Fishfield has them all the spinning models in stock right now as well as the medium light float rod. 15% off is still in effect I think, free shipping.

      @ I haven’t heard of one, but that would be cool. Cabela’s has 10% off for veterans and first responders, so that’s really awesome. I looked today and they haven’t listed the GCX rods yet. I was in the Springfield store and they still have some E6X’s in stock. I think the 10’ float medium light.
