- Headphones recommended! Howdy folks! Yep I've gone and done it again, lol!! 5 out, 3 in! So this has just happened at Weevil Garage, and the latest acquisition just happens to be one that also follows the model line-up succession insofar as the 3 Series lineage from BMW is concerned.
I gotta admit, I fell in love with the SOUND of this car, and was totally smitten after just one test drive around the block! all this happened in that week where I didn't post anything too, haha!! 😄

@@ChrisWeevilGarage stock up on window regulators! That's about it for a good two hundered thousand miles and more. Make sure it does not over heat which is what took it in the end. Original motor and transmission right till the end! Great memory!

FINALLY an E46. Been waiting for you to get one and review. I personally have one myself for quite number of years now. It's a facelifted 2002 2.2 liter 6 cylinder (M54B22).
And yes, the beautiful smooth buttery sound of the 6 cylinder is just to die for. Love it every time i drive it (not my primary car) and i tend to redline it every now and then and whack it round the corners. Love it.
I think yours should be with the ZF gearbox. It's the best gearbox compared to some fitted with GM gearbox which i read its a headache and less durable. ZF are butter smooth and well made gearboxes.
That's exactly how I feel too, hahaha! It just begs to be given the beans, loves to rev indeed!! And sounds glorious as u said 🙌 😍

My mom used to have a 2002 or 2004 red E46 318i; Recond car straight outta Japan. Really wished she still had it.
It had it's fair share of problems. particularly, the gearbox failing which required a overhaul and the infamous overheating which we had to top the coolant every other day.
It was a pain for sure but it certainly brought joy to my mom driving it.
It definitely deepen my love for cars.
Watching this definitely brought back some core memories with the car even though it didn't sound as good as your 325i! 😝

agree on the sound that lead to purchase. I have the same situation but its on a bike instead, the Yamaha MT-07 with akrapovic exhaust. Once I tested it, i went straight to purchase the bike. The cross plane 2 cylinders sound so nice, even better than the 3 and 4 cylinders, a lot of character in it.

oh yes urs is a ZF gearbox. Lovely. Flick it to sports mode the gear starts at 1st, floor it the rpm changes at slightly higher rpm and it shifts more agressive too.

Yes yours is a M54B25. M54 engines is rated one of the best bmw engines ever. But then it loves to leak at the oil sump though. Check it out.

I love this engine as it may not be very torquey but HP even on a early 2006 E60 doesnt feel like a slouch i wonder how it feels on a E46 but any chance you would be able to compare this with say a W124 260E? I feel at the top end the 260E sounds like a fighter jet kinda sound. Still the 325i e46 is very very respecable even for todays standards.
Definitely still applicable to today's standards, even though its more than 2 decades old. Never owned a 260E, but that's no slouch either 😄
@@ChrisWeevilGarage I think both Merc and BMW has their own twist at the high ranges for that era exlcluding the E46 M3 of course, Merc at the top end sounds like a jet fighter and this sounds like perhaps Hercules? :P but that era really produced really good build quality before CGI and planned obsolescence was a thing.
