Enya was born Eithne Ni Bhraonain in Donegal, Ireland. Enya studied classical music at college under private tuition. On leaving college she was asked by Producer Nicky Ryan to join her siblings in their family band. She did so for a short time, but found it too restrictive musically, and so in 1982 she joined Nicky Ryan and Roma Ryan in a creative and business partnership. Enya's first commission was to write a score for Sir David Puttnam for his film "The Frog Prince". Then, the triumvirate secured the soundtrack to the BBC documentary series 'The Celts'. Enya was then signed by Warner Music and all three by EMI Music Publishing. The first album of this contract was "Watermark" with the hit single "Orinoco Flow". This was followed by "Shepherd Moons", "The Memory of Trees", "Paint the Sky With Stars", "A Day Without Rain" which produced the single, "Only Time".

There can't be any bad songs on an Enya album. She's a music goddess. She never disappoints.
+Adi M I agree with you 99.99% There is one song however that I on purpose don't include in my Enya playlist. It's her weakest song and I don't like it; "The River Sings" from the album Amarantine.
+peze80 One song that I avoid most of the time is Stars and Midnight Blue from AWC, it sounds just too cheesy for me and I would feel ashamed listening to it with someone else around me. There are actually lots of these Enya songs that I will avoid playing to other people. It's like revealing what kind of porn you are watching. :)) It's such an intimate experience. But whether we like some songs more or less, I still believe that each song Enya does is great. Furthermore, not all Enya fans are the same. We don't love Enya in the same way.
+Adi M Hmm, I didn't recognize the title, but I just listened to it in my iTunes. And I find it strange that you feel bad about that song. That is a VERY typical Enya song, sounds like MANY of her other songs. The reason I don't like "The River Sings" is because it's atypical! It's too upbeat and has that indian chant feel to it. It's actually annoying, whereas the track you mention is a standard relaxing Enya song...
+peze80 I would find "The Rivers Sings" way more relaxing than Stars and Midnight Blue. But like I said :) We don't like Enya's music in the same way.
+Adi M No, we can't be talking about the same songs. What you just stated is like saying Hound Dog is more relaxing than Love Me Tender (for example)...
Enya was one of my archangels against depression as a child. She is still one of the most beautiful voices of all time.
Mine was a bit earlier. I grew up in the 70s, so it was Simon and Garfunkel, Peter Paul and Mary for me.
Now in my 60s, it is Enya.
Just bought the album and thought to myself "Enya is the only musical artist whose work I'll purchase without hearing it first". The critics deride the (false) perception of sameness from album to album, but that actually works in Enya's favor. But Enya has evolved through the years, in subtle ways that are both inspiring and comforting.
"Sancta Maria" so far is my favorite track - her absolutely gorgeous voice, with layers upon layers of harmony with a 12-string guitar chordal foundation - it reminds me a bit of "Move On" by ABBA - uplifting and pure which is so rare in music these days.
The fact that I know all the melodies of each song in this album 😭 what a great healing

I love the Album! seriously. I'm 14 years old and I would really like that more kids could listen this kind of music.
I began listening to Enya was I was 8 yrs old. That was back in 1988. My riding instructor played her music on the way to a horse show. I was hooked! And I felt just like you - why didn't more kids like that type of music.

There is something about The Loxian Gate that touches me. The feeling of traveling. Leaving one's comfort zone. Change, peace, moving onward. My favorite recording artist has yet to disappoint. Hard to believe we've been with DSI for a year now!

I have collected Enya's CDs since Watermark, and all her songs from thereon, like marks of water trails, have left a musical spirit that is deep, boundless, ethereal, and present. Poetry and music captured in Enya's voice stir both nostalgia and optimism, as if I am bound to throw myself formless and free.
The Forge of the Angels, The Humming, Astra Et Luna, and The Loxian Gates - all move something in my soul; however, "So I could find my way," brings tears to my eyes.

Early albums accompanied the birth and life of each of my four children as they grew up. This album was dark and melancholy and I didn't play it much - until my father died. It suited my mood with its loss of different kinds and when I could not find the words for the funeral I quoted from 'So I could find my way' . I have been playing it for 3 months to work through my grief. Eventually The Humming reminded me of the transcient nature of people and death is a change that cannot be avoided or changed. Night and day continue regardless until we can say, 'Here comes another new day- alleluia' (from Echoes in Rain) . Now the memories and reminiscing, of Summer, or love moved on bring increasing happiness and less and less pain. I would only rearrange the tracks to show the journey more clearly, but perhaps everyone's journey is different and needs to be in their time.
I started to smile in The moment where "Even In The Shadows" began, then I knew that one is going to be my favourite

The Forge of the Angels, wow. Haven't heard this kind of melody for quite a long time.
Love the every bits of the freshly produced masterpiece of hers. And she is getting more uplifting and upbeating. She is approaching to her modern Enya style while still retaining her signature angelic voice, that is still a perfect match to the newly invented uplifting and upbeating background music. Notable examples are the humming and the echoes in the rain, which able to manipulate the hums and echoes in a colorful way.
Shepherd moons still remains my best album ever . She is truly one of my best female artist of all time .
I won't be able to do anything else than play and replay indefinitely the play button until I have the album in my hands.

I think Echoes in Rain is beyond description. It's sumptuous and majestic and brave. Even in the Shadows also sounds very promising. I could never say goodbye and dark sky island make me cry with sadness and joy respectively. This really is an exceptional album.

My God!!! What a perfect surprise! I am a big fan of Enya since the beginning, and now that I wasn't expecting anything new for this Autumn/Winter, Enya comes up with this jewel! Based on what I've listened to so far, Enya is excellent, har VOICE is maybe at its best and the music and words are lovely. Nothing to dissapoint. I love all the Christian references, too, like Allelluia and Sancta Maria, but Enya is Universal and touches everyone with a heart! Beautiful!

The forge of the angels is reminiscent of the sounds of the celts era, astra et luna reminds me of wild child, and the loxian gates takes me to Ebudae. It's all enya but with a new twist.

I just want to say a welcome return to the wonderful Enya after a long time away, I bought the CD album today from HMV and I'll listen to the album on Monday and after hearing snippets from each song, I think I'm going to enjoy every single track.

How can I decide on a favorite track from Enya's new album? They all are so AMAZING and I cannot wait to buy it! I feel as if this is a mixture of classic Enya sound and something completely different! With that being said and hearing only bits of each track, The Loxian Gates is so Beautiful, The Humming is a Great opening, Echoes in Rain is a throwback to Orinoco Flow and makes me feel equally upbeat, and Diamonds In the Water is Amazing!
