I have no idea how I forgot about Dead Space being this year. In my mind that was a late 2022 game. I wish i would have caught it while editing but not until I saw a few comment did it jog my memory. It would be my #3 just above Alan Wake 2.
I definitely got to revisit deadspace remake. That was a phenomenal remake. Well, a re-work is better put.
I came straight to the comments to ask "You never played Dead Space??" Lol. Great list though! I'd recommend checking out Dead Island 2 as well if you haven't already, it's not a masterpiece by any means, but it's pretty damn fun.
Dead Space is my game of the year. I love the franchise so much and Motive did a hell of a job. I have extreme faith in their ability to not only remake 2 and 3, but also continue the franchise on. Plus I have to say the story tidbit they added between Isaac and Nicole was just heart wrenching in all the right ways.
I was just going to say that you forgot it because I remember you liking it a lot lol.
I was gonna comment on why you didn't play Dead Space Remake. Glad I saw this pin comment.
But yeah, I love Dead Space games and the Remake truly surprised me more ways and love what they did and didn't stray off from the original game
RE4 was so fucking good man. Like you, I've played the original game a million times and Resident Evil is my favorite gaming franchise as well. So needless to say, I was extremely hyped. I didn't have a PS5 yet at the time, but got one along with RE4, and holy shit dude. Not only is RE4 amazing, but it being my first PS5 game was such a treat, and it really sold me on the console as well as the controller. It was a great first experience with the PS5 and to this day, no other game has used the DualSense as effectively in my opinion. I'm pretty sure you used headphones when you streamed it, but a cool little feature when not using headphones is that all the codec (basically lol) calls come through the speaker and so do sounds from when you aim down sights, switch weapons, slash with the knife, break a box/vase, and open the inventory screen.
PS: I'm a huge fan of your channel(s) and have been very pleased to see your sub counts go up these past few years. Here's to a great new year for you Cody!!!
Also, what did you think of the Separate Ways DLC? I fuckin loved it
Woo! 2023 was a wild year for gaming, for sure. Lots of high highs and low lows haha
What up Cody! Keep being awesome as always brother!
Lies of p is my game of the year for 2023 it was amazing! Takes time to get good at it. But once u figure out the flow of combat it's amazing
Spider-Man and Dead Space are my top 2 with Baldurs Gate creeping up there (only put a few hours in so far)☺️
Always love the gaming videos Cody! Hoping 2024 has a lot of bangers incoming
Fun watch appreciate the upload @Cody
RE4 remake was so amazing.. I don’t know where resident evil even goes from here but I’m here for it regardless
I feel you man. Being a parent and all these games is very hard. I play whenever I can as well. If this was five over five years ago our opinions might of been different.
RE 4 Remake and Dead Space remake were by far my 2 favourites of last year. That says quite a lot about the state of modern gaming when remakes are better than a lot of original Triple A titles. Love the content mate and Happy New Year. Wish you all the best for 2024.
Yes very good games
Yup. Back then developers thought "how do we make the best game possible?"
Now devs think "how do we maximize player retention and microtransaction revenue?"
@@themarcshark 💯
@@themarcshark is that really relevant to how good the remakes are though? The remakes still came out now and they could still have taken that approach if they wanted to. The devs just did a good job.
Definitely love finishing or coming close to a games ending before reviewing. Great list.
Great video Cody and I haven’t played many games of 2023 yet but what I play of RE4 remake I really enjoy it
I don’t think I played enough new games in 2023 to make a top 10 I only remember Resident Evil 4 remake, Spider-Man 2, Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty, Dead Space Remake, Modern Warfare 3, Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, metal gear solid 1-3 on ps5 (which doesn’t rlly count) & Naruto X Boruto ultimate ninja storm Connections. I’m a big gamer I’ve just been working on my backlog of rpg’s
Play Alan Wake 2: The Final Draft… it sorts out most of the the original ending’s cliffhanger
I can completely relate to your tears of the kingdom experience. I'm 90 hours in and haven't finished the story. It's one of the best games I've ever played, but the massiveness of it overwhelms me and I haven't had the energy to complete it.
Dead Space, Alan Wake 2, BG3, Spiderman 2, all pretty solid games. I really enjoy Starfield, being a huge scifi fan I think gives me some rose colored glasses, lol
I also had a blast with Starfield and many of my friends did as well
Good thing I've subscribed to both channels more content for me 🎉🎉
Great video mate, re4 remake was my favourite by far..platinumed that sucker over a week of holiday off work lol😂 keep.up the Great content
Wow can't believe I've been watching your vids for years now and didn't know about this channel. LFG more Cody vids! Love the content both movie and game related!
I love star wars Jedi survivor
RE4 remake was my favorite, followed closely by Spiderman 2 and Hogwarts Legacy. Wo Long Fallen Dynasty is up there for me too - it's a fun, more approachable soulslike (my favorite sub-genre of video game).
Good list, Cody. As a big Robocop fan, I loved Rogue City and didn't have anywhere near the number of glitches with that you did (though I definitely had a few). That being said, I agree that it's overpriced for what it is.
The most underrated game of the year in my opinion is Amnesia: The Bunker. It's only $25 and is easily the best horror game I've played in years, filled with excellent atmosphere and constant tension. I'm a big fan of Amnesia: The Dark Descent and truly think that The Bunker rivals it. Unfortunately, I never finished it because my save file got corrupted and I had to restart the entire game right when I was at the final area. Still, a stellar experience overall.
I'll also give a shoutout to Mortal Kombat 1. I'm not a big fan of fighting games, but have always liked the Mortal Kombat franchise and its latest installment delivered more of what I enjoy about the series.
As for my personal game of the year, the Dead Space remake and Spider-Man 2 come close, but I'm going with the Resident Evil 4 remake. As a massive Resident Evil nerd with the OG 4 being one of my favorites, I was blown away by how good the remake was, including the Separate Ways DLC.
Speaking of DLC, Valhalla for God of War: Ragnarök was another great experience, as well as a love letter to longtime fans of the franchise. 2023 was a really great year for games overall.
I couldn’t agree with you more about the MGS collection. When it was announced I thought “alright now I can have those games on my switch with HD graphics”. I was surprised to see so many people complaining.
My top 3 favorite games of 2023!
3. Hogwarts Legacy
2. Resident Evil 4 Remake
1. Spider-Man 2
Loved the list man here’s my top 5
1. Resident Evil 4
2. Final fantasy 16
3. Spider man 2
4. Lies of P
5. Dead Space
Just fyi, Alan Wake 2 doesn't actually end on a cliffhanger and has a pretty definitive ending, it's just hidden in the New Game + mode (the game's all about loops and spirals, so it's kinda brilliant that the actual ending is "unlocked" by playing the game again on NG +).
Solid list. I played a couple of them but mostly I've been grinding COD MW3 multiplayer and zombies. Still am actually. But i wanna break from that to play other games like MK1, Cyberpunk phantom liberty, and even some older games. Why not. The Friday 13th servers are up for another year. Might have an influx of players trying to play before it goes down for good.
Agree 100% on # 1...Resident Evil 4 remake is absolute perfection !
Great list man
I watch your other channel all the time, this is first time I watched this channel and I dig it, great good man
Glad to see the game chamber video!!
I’ve only played a handful of games from this year.
My Rankings are:
1. Resident Evil 4 Remake 9.5/10
2. Super Mario Wonder 9.3/10
3. Street Fighter 6 9/10
4. Mortal Kombat 1 8.5/10
5. Spider-Man 2 8/10
6. Tears of the Kingdom 7.5/10
1000% agree with you. Very exhausting to get through, and this is coming from a massive Zelda fan.
Marvel's spiderman 2 is my game of the year of last year
The absolute best year of gaming we have had in a very long time. My ranking of the games I have played is:
1. Alan Wake 2
2. Resident Evil 4 Remake
3. Jedi Survivor
4. Spider-Man 2
5. Dead Space Remake
6. Amnesia The Bunker
I didn’t know you had a gaming channel! Not as many uploads but I’m a gamer before a movie guy so I’ll watch every upload
I think people’s main concern when the ports of old games are re released is mainly the price. In mgs case, they’re pretty old, and a lot of people think the collections should be cheaper. I don’t really care personally, I’m not being forced to buy them.
When it came to the gta trilogy controversy, people’s concerns were valid, that was broken af at launch.
Besides Spider-Man bro this list was perfect. I put Alan Wake 2 on #2 behind RE4, wow was that game redone with class!!! Starting to really dig your channel bro, you're getting better
Dude I’m the same way with Jedi: survivor and avatar: frontiers of pandora…the more I played the more I checked out.
Biggest surprises:
3.hogwarts legacy
2.Robocop rogue city
1.FF16 (my GOTY)
RE4 remake kicked ass! Was my #2
I’m fairly new to your main channel and had no idea you did games too! What a nice surprise
You should definitely look up the Final Draft ending if you are not in the mood to play the game again or you can just wait till the DLCs come out and play it again then.
Let’s goo always a good day when Cody drops a game chamber video
Tears of the kingdom is phenomenal. Everything about it was improved from breath of the wild. A pure masterpiece
Great list! Im definitely forgetting a few games cause there was so much that came out
9. Modern Warfare 3
8. Mortal Kombat 1
7. Super Mario Bros Wonder
6. Dead Space
5. Jedi Survivor
4. Alan Wake 2
3. Spider-Man 2
2. Tears of the Kingdom
1. Final Fantasy 16
Idk if final fantasy is your thing and i wasnt sure if i would like it but i saw there was a demo for it and heard great things but it instantly hooked me. Has a game of thrones type story with great characters, epic boss fights, and competes with doom eternal as the best music in any game ever
Did you finish Final Draft for AW2? It changes the ending in a significant way. The upcoming DLC is going to be very interesting.
I got to this a little late. I truly enjoy your ranking, bro. Our perspectives on games are about the same and that held true with RE4 it just seems like Capcom is on their peak with the series.
Gonna try out Robocop, Spider Man and Zelda EVENTUALLY.
My backlog is atrocious...so ya know.
For me Dead Space, RE4, Star Wars Jedi Survivor, Final Fantasy XVI, Diablo IV, Spider-Man 2, Lies Of P, Mortal Kombat 1, Horizon Forbidden West Burning Shores , Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty and Alan Wake II.
Every game that I have played in 2023
6. WWE 2K23 7/10
5. Dead Space(didn’t play it all even tho I want to) 8/10
4. Mortal Kombat 1 8.5/10
3. Star Wars Jedi Survivor 9/10
2. Resident Evil 4 Remake 10/10
1. Spider-Man 2 10/10
Hey man thank you for making videos!!
massive W with that number 1 pick. couldn’t agree more.
Such a interesting year, came out some absolute gems and some stinkers for all consoles, my ranking would be
1. Super Mario Bros Wonder 9.5/10
2. Metroid Prime Remaster 10/10
3. Bayonetta Origins 9/10
4. Super Mario RPG 9/10
5. Everybody 1-2 Switch 2/10 😂
-I played tears of the kingdom near launch, couldn't get pass the tutorial area 😅, but will go back one day to fully give it a shot
-Pikmin 4 looks fantastic will get it soon
5:21 A lot of Mario games are just "Bowser kidnaps Peach yet again."
Avatar should've been 3rd person to really see the whole world they built and character customization would've mattered
My top 3 games this year are Lies Of P, Resident Evil 4 Remake and Hi FI Rush.
Did Dead isalnd 2 come out in 2023. I cant remember. Great game. Good list Cody.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre The Game 9.5/10 fun & frustrating game ever lol
Dude Jedi survivor was such a mixed experience for me. The difficulty curve of the boss battles was so jarring and the world felt empty.
Hope your feeling better bro. Even if I don't agree with you on super mario wonder or robocop. I appreciate the hours of entertainment especially from your movie channel. Mario wonder just had a ton of clever ideas and surprises with wonder flower but slightly over rated. 1st world and half was a bit lame. it gets exponentially better by the end. Robocop never crashed on me but it was blast. Haven't beaten it but close.
As an dark souls fan boy lies of p was really surprisingly gooe for me
I didn’t experience the bugginess (some minor stuff) or the crashes you experienced in Robocop (on PS5). A top 5 for me.
If Cody doesn’t have Spider man 2 at 1, will the people be as shocked as they were when it lost at that award show ?🤣🤣🤣
I would be more shocked if it isn't RE4 remake
I'm surprised the dead space remake wasn't on your list. But love this list and agree with your thoughts on spiderman 2. I was shocked that it was so beloved then got extreme hate out of nowhere.
I completely forgot it came out last year since it was a January release. It would have been my #3.
I just finished Arizona sunshine 2. Great game
Dude I didn’t know you had a gaming channel!
Alan wake 1 has a legendary story and vibe thats why everyone liked it, alan wake 2 improved on literally everything and shot to number 2 behind baldurs gate 3 for me because nothing can touch baldurs gate 3 tbh its just a landmark title that makes you rethink what a video game can be but the imagery in alan wake 2 will stick with me forever, harbringer of darkness is in my music playlist now and cant wait till winding road releases
Dead island 2 was fantastic highly recommend it to anyone reading
Yeah I beat it. Ending was slightly underwhelming, but it was fun making badass weapons and ripping apart zombies. I put 20 hours into it.
Have you ever played Rayman Legends? When you were talking about waiting for that level in Mario that will suck you in, it reminded me of a certain level. Black Betty, if you have played it.
I'm late to the party, I'm just now getting a Series X & the 1st game I bought was RE4...& so far it's awesome! Not quite the same level of pure awe I had playing the OG for the 1st time but it's close.
Awesome list Cody do you have the Deadspace remake just outside your top ten?
Talk about Alan Wake II cliffhanger: I'm DYING for The Darkness III.
only new games i got to play was spiderman 2,jedi survivor and hogwarts legacy. really enjoyed all 3 of them
Great List Cody.
My personal ranking (of what i played)
1.) Dead Space Remake
2.) Spider-Man 2
3.) Star Wars: Jedi Survivor
4.) Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
5.) Assassin's Creed Mirage
6.) Resident Evil 4 Remake
Honorable Mention: Hogwarts Legacy
Cody is the type of guy to absolutely hate his game of the year
Cody you’re seriously missing out if you haven’t played RE4 on psvr 2. I’ve played so many psvr 2 games this year and previously alot of pcvr games. For me personally, RE4 on psvr 2 is the best vr game I’ve ever played.
Great Video Cody! Here's My List:
1. Hogwarts Legacy
2. Marvel's Spider-Man 2
3. Alan Wake 2
4. Resident Evil 4 Remake
5. Dead Space Remake
6. Texas Chainsaw Massacre
7. Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom
8. Final Fantasy 16 (XVI)
9. Baldur's Gate 3
10. Super Mario Wonder
27:08 There were all these clickbaity channels calling it a failure for not winning any awards.
Starfield and Deadspace are my top!
I'm not a gamer, is 15 games considered a lot?
Not a ton, no. I only have so much time to play unfortunately.
I do not understand why some get so upset over ranking cause just like movies everyone has different tastes etc so like the VR God Game looked interesting to me but also I can admit not my thing. I think some just need to chill out and realize these lists are just ONE person's objective opinions and not the end all be all list but I enjoyed this video and your channels so please keep it up.
If you love re4 woukd reccemond the dead space remake. Its fantastic
Hey Cody, can you do a short review for Separate Ways DLC? It made RE4 remake my favourite
Have you gotten to play the VR mode for Resident Evil 4 yet?
RE4 Remake takes the win for me. But Dead Space Remake, Dead Island 2, Amnesia The Bunker are all solid horror games too. Armored Core 6 rips too.
The only game i truly loved playing in 2023 was resident evil 4 remake. I have no nostalgia for the og re4 i played it for the 1st time last year. I enjoyed spider-man 2 as well.
hey cody have you played some dead by daylight this year since Chucky is in it now?
18:14 Yeah TCM was awesome, but the really long lobbies just eventually killed it for me. Its to bad too cause it is better than DBD
The best games that released in 2023 was RE4 Remake and Dead Space Remake. No doubt.
have you checked out the VR mode for RE4 remake?
Wait if Resident Evill 4 was your second favourite game does that mean that now RE4 Remake now is your favourite game or new second favourite ?
Metal gear solid is his fav
Hands downs RE4 remake and Dead Space Remake
Ya not alone on the island with regards to Mario. Not my cuppa tea either.
Bro those are cry babies, Playstation spidey is based on the ultimate universe where Harry is venom, so they(the cry babies)never knew their lore
I’m a huge VENOM fan!!! Venom was a big part of my childhood. I’ve been crapped on for saying this but I don’t care at this point. Insomniac’s Venom is my favorite, and I loved the host. It felt more personal than another Eddie Brock story. Eddie Brock in media besides comic books, have sucked.
The mgs master collection is great the hate comes from the exclusions on the pc side such as u can’t play w keyboard & mouse & then if u don’t play the North American version of mgs 1 ur playing the pal version thus all the issues that the pal versions have but if ur playing the North American version of mgs1 & on console its the exact same release as the HD collection on ps3 which was great & is still great. I think I heard (might be wrong) but bc it’s a ps3/xbox 360 HD releases it caps at 720P upscaled to 1080p not true 1080p & since they just ported it it’s still upscaled 720p on 4K consoles & ppl were upset about the studio not putting the time in to upscale the graphics to true 1080p at least or giving mgs1 16:9 ratio like fan remasters have done. It’s less of actual hate but more of miner disappointments that built up & fueled by the $70 dollar price & the master title saying it’s the definitive rubs ppl the wrong way. I however think its great I beat all 3 at least once (3 three times & 2 two times no specific reason just worked out that way) & then I started playing peace walker
The conversation around Spider-Man 2 became toxic on both sides in my opinion. People like what they like and it shouldn’t be that big of a deal. I loved my time with Starfield and I could care less how much hate it’s getting.
The Spiderman hate is the result of the console wars. Both sides are always ragging on each other on how there console of choice is better then the other. When Starfield started getting mediocre reviews the Sony ponies were taking potshots at Xbox.. When Spiderman 2 didn't win GOTY the hardcore Xbox fanbase were throwing it in the Sony Ponies faces. Its a never ending cycle between the two factions.
I too am surprised by all of the hate Spider-Man 2 has been getting lately. I'm a comic nerd, with Spidey being one of my favorite characters (as you can tell by my profile picture) and I loved the game. It wasn't perfect and had some really bad side missions (especially where Miles Morales was concerned), but I found it to be a stellar experience overall.
A lot of people are saying the game is woke because of the aforementioned Miles side quests (which were admittedly pretty awful) and Mary Jane Watson's redesign (which I don't like), but I think they're overreacting, especially when the vast majority of the game is so good. I'm among the first people to call something out for being woke when it actually is, but Spider-Man 2 is sadly another one of those products that doesn't deserve that label but is receiving it anyway.
The game being "woke" or not is the least of it's problems. The main problem of that game is the mediocre story and terrible pacing.
Jedi: Survivor was such a disappointment for me. The combat and maneuverability was so much more fast and fluid and I loved that but the story overall disappointed me. SPOILERS BELOW
In the first 30 minutes of the game, I said "Bode is going to be the guy to betray you in this game and is secretly the main villain, isn't he?" aaaaaand I was right.
Uhhhh robocop was $50
I get why fans would be kind of pissed or at the very least annoyed spider man 2 is a great game but it's not as good as the first one the story lacks the really great pacing and tightness of the first I'm not a very big miles fan but he does get kind of shafted and it feels very rushed storywise I don't get that emotional punch at the end of this like I did the first because the second act and and third act even more just jump to the next big moment and there's no chance to catch your breath imo
1. Hogwarts Legacy (9.5/10) (Been waiting for this game since I was a kid and it delivered)
2. Resident Evil 4 (2023) (9.5/10) (This is how you do a remake to a classic)
3. Dead Space (2023) (9/10)
3. Spider-Man 2 (2023) (8/10) (Gameplay was amazing but the story was really lacking and rushed especially to the 2018 game and ended up being too safe for my taste)
