I think that's the best part about modern internet. In the 2000s, Sykunno would've been hated the same way Bieber and boy band haters would be. But the internet is so insular that you don't really get that anymore.
@@FFXfever He was for a while when he first started getting really popular. Mostly because they thought he was faking his demeanor to appeal to women, although I think everyone quickly realized it is just how he is so it stopped.
@@RakkoonnYeah it didn’t help that from what I remember he went on Rajjellor/Love or Host a few times so a lot of people knew him from that show. At least that’s where I first saw him. A lot of contestants would play it up big time because it was a show that wanted to parody reality TV dating shows and the like. So Syk being on the show as this very drastic shift from everyone else was kind of shocking for people as an introduction. Even I was a bit doubtful at first, but of course Syk isn’t perfectly wholesome. He’s still a generally good dude though from what I’ve seen. But I would guess a lot of that flack started from that era in particular (also anyone who is overly nice on the internet people are more doubtful about so it doesn’t surprise me if people just felt that way either)
This is actually so awesome hearing all these stories, since you always have such a grounded take on all of this, it gives such a great view, hope you release a supercut of all these
Some say Sykkuno is still there to this day, taking pictures and signing autographs. He never seems to get any older and the line of eager fans never seems to get any shorter.
Not really, his been around a while. His earliest UA-cam videos were from like 2011ish when he did League of Legend videos, I remember watching some of them back then. He didn't gain much attention until streaming on Twitch and even then it wasn't until he started using a face cam and playing Among Us. So being around 30 isn't shocking.
Too late this time, but there's a streamer in OTV named Michael reeves. He talked about how to avoid this in a podcast. Basically takes one massive group photo using one person's phone. That person airdrops it to everyone else and he runs off.
Someone should tell Brian that Endingwalker actually has tons of fangirls among the Japanese Street Fighter fanbase 😅 they are legit referring to him as Endingwalker-sama when they talk about him.
Sykkuno should have wore the wig the entire time, not only because it would be funny but also because it would confuse fangirls for the five seconds he'd need to escape.
I've always known Sykkuno is a cool guy, but a part of me couldn't help but be jealous of the whole "super-popular streamer + pretty-boy" thing he's got going on. After hearing these stories, I've shifted from jealousy to sympathy. I would *hate* having to deal with this stuff. This sounds like a real-life version of those Disney Channel original movies with the moral that celebrities are people like everyone else & dealing with fame is a much bigger pain than you might think.
Maybe it's weird to say but on a logical level I kind of get why people are jealous, but in reality I do not get jealous of internet celebrities or normal celebrities, only maybe some small personal jealousy of some of the people that surround me. It's not even that I don't think their position is super cool with lots of prividges with the downside not being comparable to the upsides. I don't even think the downsides of the job are even worth griping about compared to the upside, so it's not a "Well being a super popular streamer has it's own problems" thing.
It's funny cuz like 10 years ago when he had all his health problems most ppl would probably consider him kinda ugly Dude definitely went through an ugly duckling story arc
The most surprising part about this is hearing that Sykkuno is older than you. lmao I could absolutely not tell just by looking at you guys in the stage. The entire story shifted from my perspective by this one simple information. I feel bad for the guy, I would not have the patience to deal with this.
Valorant is essentially called the FPS for girls, and Syykuno is a pretty boy. It was inevitable. Dude chose correctly. I, on the other hand, chose Honda and to be born decades too soon.
Im not a person that follows really big streamers, so hearing that these situations happened over there was kinda crazy. On another note, i didnt know the word "groupie" was derogatory, so I guess I learned something new today.
Huh, I'm with you there, I thought groupie was just the classical definition of a super-fan that follows their band/group around from stop to stop on tour. Apparently nowadays it has the connotation that they're primarily trying to sleep with said band/group.
@@dizzyMongoose It's *always* had the "sleep with" connotation, though in my experience, whether it's derogatory depends on the context of how it's used.
@@JJames666male I'm of course aware that's what a lot of them did back in the day. I'm just saying the word to me didn't used to indicate that you must be intending to sleep with them to be a groupie, cuz that's not inherently part of the original definition.
I don't understand how some people are able to go up to a person in public and ask for their attention like that, even if they're a "celebrity". I don't know. The only time I would think about going up to someone and asking them for a picture or to sign something is at a specific signing or appearance. Nothing against Sykkuno BTW. He seems like a great guy and I've enjoyed him when he's been in content I've watched.
I can kind of understand it, because it might be their ONE chance to ever interact with somebody they look up to/idolize. I understand FOMO and becoming blind to any sort of social situation, just to not miss your chance to experience meeting someone you're a fan of. It's the lining up, behind other fans part where I feel like it's unexplainable. Even with FOMO, someone would have to constantly be thinking "I need to see them! I need to see them!..." and not once think to themselves "Maybe I could be doing something else? Is this really worth all this time to meet someone when a whole convention is going on?". If they only showed up to meet 1 streamer/celebrity that's still insane to me.
@@zanpakutoman4225 Yeah. I completely understand why but it has always made me feel extremely anxious to see that kind of stuff.
