This is not related to results or anything, but I just wanted to take the time to point out that Shion is a really nice guy, and every time I talk to him, or just see him, he is very humble, and always smiling. Congrats shion!
I'm not going to speak any word about results, but I will say that all the competitors put in so much time and effort into their routines and I just want to take this moment to recognize how great each and every one of these players are in their own unique ways. If I could give each person a first place medal for being the best of their own style, I would. The work ethic and dedication EACH competitor has seemingly gone un-noticed; drowned-out by the sound of "who's better than who" and comments judging those who don't agree with results. Let's drop all that. Let's focus on giving these players the praise they ALL deserve!
Totally agree. Your freestyle was beautiful. Shions was beautiful. Andrews was beautiful. Gentry's was also. People who don't compete don't seem to get the fact that all this stuff was chosen, and worked on very hard. I noticed very few players who made no mistakes, and those who did make mistakes still got really good rankings. (While I'm replying to you I might as well say I just bought an edge, looking forward to playing with it.)
Only Mickey did won 1A division for 3 consecutive years (2004, 2005, 2006), and then after nobody ever won 1A for consecutive streak, not long before this year WYYC.
Let's face it guys shion had the most technically difficult tricks and he deserves the title. He seems like a great guy and honestly as a community we need to get along better. Huge props to Shion
William Bidgood nope, Tyler Viennau has a lot harder tech Try some Shion's tricks and then learn from A-RT tutorials and try to execute Tyler's tricks with at least just a half of his flow
I strongly disagree. Shion likely practices way more. Plus tyler doesnt even care about contests so why are you comparing his stuff to a top contest player? That's like comparing someone who coaches a semi pro football team for a hobby as opposed to a player on a world cup team.
hey both of them made very good presentation of themselves and they dedicated their life and soul into their routines so i say they are all equally good
I just read all of the comments and the majority of them were all love comments. In fact I think I only read one or two hate comments. So nice job on being better than what we thought some of the yoyo community was team! (P.S. I totally think Shion deserved the number one title, but my personally favorite freestyles, based on entertainment, tech, and trick innovation only, was Ethan's and Kieran's because of their mind blowing bangers and unique ways of doing a freestyle.)
Charles khulenberh Gentry didn't have much change, and his tricks weren't so amazing compared with his performance in2014. But his beat really caught up with the music.
Have to say I liked Gentry's freestyle more but in saying that based on the scoring system the results are 100% fair... based on the way points are awarded this is much better than Gentry and still really enjoyable to watch. Congratulations Shion.
Wow I can't believe everyone is mad that shion won. He totally deserves it and every one one else came to the contest knowing how the scoring system works. You just have to understand that he is the best in the world right now
Nope, not saying it was unfair. However, I am saying that the quality of Gentrys was MUCH better. It is a shame to see a performance of that quality lose to a speed combo fest, though.
I think that Gentry is definitely more fun to watch and put time into his performance, but Shion is very fast and the system favors clicks. Fair is fair but I don't particularly think Shion's was my favorite.
Brian G. Liska I wouldn't say it's unfair because heck, that's how the system works. Gentry's freestyle is one of my favorites from this year's worlds though.
Think about this... The winners of the five main divsions and the Women's Division, have all won that divison before at worlds. They all deserved to win buts lets be honest... It would have been cool for some new players to get their first world title this year.
I would have been so happy to see Andrew Bergen win this year. Good freestyle, but he made a few crucial mistakes. I know he lost by 7 points, but still.
I like watching Evan and Gentry play more, because of how they behave onstage n stuff. Props still go to Shion though, he's a machine and he looks like he's playing in fast forward.
The only thing that matters in dislike ratio is the likes, and not views. Views have nothing to do with like/dislike, a person can hate a video and still watch it, but not dislike it. Anyways the video has 330 (rounded) ratings at the time of this comment, and 85 of those are dislikes. 85 out of 330 ratings people gave were dislikes, which isn't good obviously
I just watched the top 3 freestyles. I can say Shions was the better freestyle IMO. It was one of the best I have seen. Dare I say its as good as JK 2010.
Does anyone know what songs he uses in this? The last one's pretty cool. This guy is really impressive (and crazy fast!), but I think I'll always have a soft spot for Gentry :').
man everyone was beasting how do these things get judged? do the judges know every trick they are doing or attempting to do it just so crazy how good they all are
You are scored off of how many successful strings hits you had, and how difficult each one of those is perceived to be by each judge. You are also judged off of your performance. Things like choreography, stage presence and stage use, body control, trick cleanliness, trick variation, trick creativity, stuff like that. There are multiple judges who score your tricks themselves, and multiple who score your performance. Their ratings are averaged together to get your total score.
Cameron Arant alot of the judges had very high standards, rei iwakura was judging and he has a super high standard which means they score players way more strictly
So it seems Japan has held on to the title of 1st last year The United States ought to step up their game xd jk everyone is unique in any way KEEP ON TEH SKILLS THAT WOWS EVERYONE
He won fair and square, but to me it kinda makes watching yoyoing somewhat boring because of this current "meta" if you will. Everyone seems to be using the same horizontal and fast combos that it everything feel stale, but it scores and works so, yeah
because those tricks that you have mention are not gonna score because of scoring system mean you have to make sure your tricks are clicking like in mount like double or nothing you can straight to an entire come and any mount you can do thats how score work and thats gonna be stupid that you have to do walk the dog that yoyo that shion got could scratch his yoyo out and even if is doing eiffel tower could not score because this is a picture trick..
What do people think about reusing routines? I always hear people call out Gentry for using tricks and elements from his previous routines, and yet nobody has said anything about this: ua-cam.com/video/4JvXTzAJAoQ/v-deo.html
I like that Shion has won every single contest he's attended in 2017 without changing a yoyo and brings 6 backups at worlds haha.
Congrats Shion!!
olive green radius ! my favorite color !
Same
Páll Guðmundsson which yo-yo his using...
Yu BingSong C3yoyodesign Radius
either 2016 version or new 2017 version
This is not related to results or anything, but I just wanted to take the time to point out that Shion is a really nice guy, and every time I talk to him, or just see him, he is very humble, and always smiling. Congrats shion!

Evan Nagao thank you for writing that everyone should read that. It shows the part people don't see
Well said Evan! Anything more than what you just said is personal opinion. 👍👍
Shion is Humble he is mostly speed but takes time to bring other players up with him
respect, first world champ to win two years in a row in a long time. mad props to you shion
Nick Wilson Zach Gormley won 2015 and Shion won both 2016 and 2017.
It been a long time since someone winning 1A division in two consecutive years. Congrats Shion!
William Bidgood agreed we need to apreciate his level of skill more instead of hating that he has no "style"
William Bidgood nope, Tyler Viennau has a lot harder tech
Try some Shion's tricks and then learn from A-RT tutorials and try to execute Tyler's tricks with at least just a half of his flow
try to do one of shions speed combos with at least half his speed
Jon Maravilla thats still like 10 times easier than doing tylers tricks with even a hint of his flow
I strongly disagree. Shion likely practices way more. Plus tyler doesnt even care about contests so why are you comparing his stuff to a top contest player? That's like comparing someone who coaches a semi pro football team for a hobby as opposed to a player on a world cup team.
What can I say, man? He figured out the system. Can't get mad about that.
I'm seeing a whole lot people talk about whiny gentry fanboys but haven't actually seen one single whiny gentry fanboy
I just saw a Gentry fanboy whining about people talking about whiny Gentry fanboys
Gentry had a more fun routine, but Shion had a better objective routine. Gentry put on a better show, but Shion won fair and square
agreed
hey both of them made very good presentation of themselves and they dedicated their life and soul into their routines so i say they are all equally good
they both has their own way to win the competition
I had to check if my youtube was on fast forward... it wasn't.
I just read all of the comments and the majority of them were all love comments. In fact I think I only read one or two hate comments. So nice job on being better than what we thought some of the yoyo community was team! (P.S. Why the 21 dislikes? He got 8 points more then 2nd place and fully deserved the win if he got 8 points higher than 2nd place.
exactly what I thought. Everyone triggered cause gentry didn't win lol
He didnt get more than 8 points , this gap isnt acceptable + only him in the 80+ score ? The case is that other players especially bergy got stolen.
I meant 6 more points.
I was really excited that bergie got 2nd. It's a pretty big step up from last year.
Charles khulenberh Gentry didn't have much change, and his tricks weren't so amazing compared with his performance in2014. But his beat really caught up with the music.
Shion is amazing at competition! Not my cup of tea as far as entertainment goes though. Still, respect.
Shion won fairly, but i wouldve liked to see a new champion this year, every division besides 5a had the same winner as last year
Have to say I liked Gentry's freestyle more but in saying that based on the scoring system the results are 100% fair... based on the way points are awarded this is much better than Gentry and still really enjoyable to watch. Congratulations Shion.
What songs did he use
Please tell me both I really like his music
I know you wrote this 10 months ago but they are at the bottom of the description
ok , his horizontal tricks are on a new level of insane holy shit
Wow I can't believe everyone is mad that shion won. He totally deserves it and every one one else came to the contest knowing how the scoring system works. You just have to understand that he is the best in the world right now
The Gentry fanboys will come up in a second commenting stuff like:
"Was he using a Shutter?"
"Gentry should have won omg it was unfair"
Brian G. Liska Speaking truth
HIROYUKI SUZUKIII FOREVER
Brian G. Liska I wouldn't say it's unfair because heck, that's how the system works. Gentry's freestyle is one of my favorites from this year's worlds though.
Man yoyoing has a came along way. I remember I use to win contests back in say like 2001. Shits wayy more difficult the tricks now. Holy shit
Anybody here came to see triggered people(cough tech players cough) in the comment section who can't accept the results?
me.
me
Same here
me
sure i am

Jack Road takeshi didn't come this time. What a pity.
takeshi and zach though
He totally deserved this win!
Those 43 people who disliked this video, I got one thing to say. Step your life up.
i think they are really mad coz their favorite person did not got first place
tbh he did give me the same feeling when watch hajime, but hes more like 'dont clap i aint finished', kinda rushing, and AWESOME!!!!!

Dude that was so fucking cool. Im so jealous and a huge high five for how much skill you have accumulated, fist pump from Canada. Mad respect bro.
I look like this untangling my headphones
I like watching Evan and Gentry play more, because of how they behave onstage n stuff. Props still go to Shion though, he's a machine and he looks like he's playing in fast forward.
If I could have done that back in the day, my life would have been very different today 😅🤣😂🙄
These people makes everything competition.
Don't know one day they can make meditation a competition.🇮🇷
Why is the speed of the video all jacked?
watch this at 2x speed starting at 1:10
bruh it's just different styles of play, i don't know why everybody is throwing a hissy fit
19 dislikes? The yoyo community is becoming a joke, and it makes me sad
I am thinking the same thing
Now its a complete joke
This beautiful piece of art is being treated like THIS
Pro Dude
Something that has less than 100 dislikes with 12k views. Complains anyway.
Ha. Funny joke.

First song is "Take no Defeat" (feat. Santell) - Banvox. Second song is "Tacadum" - Andrew Rayel. Hope this helps everyone!
man everyone was beasting how do these things get judged? do the judges know every trick they are doing or attempting to do it just so crazy how good they all are
laf b every time the yoyo hits the string a point is scored
You are scored off of how many successful strings hits you had, and how difficult each one of those is perceived to be by each judge. You are also judged off of your performance. Things like choreography, stage presence and stage use, body control, trick cleanliness, trick variation, trick creativity, stuff like that. There are multiple judges who score your tricks themselves, and multiple who score your performance. Their ratings are averaged together to get your total score.

Cameron Arant alot of the judges had very high standards, rei iwakura was judging and he has a super high standard which means they score players way more strictly

2017 is japanese year
While i appreciate the magic skills- why can't someone end their a1 performance with a walk the dog? Maybe an eiffel tower or rock the baby?
because those tricks that you have mention are not gonna score because of scoring system mean you have to make sure your tricks are clicking like in mount like double or nothing you can straight to an entire come and any mount you can do thats how score work and thats gonna be stupid that you have to do walk the dog that yoyo that shion got could scratch his yoyo out and even if is doing eiffel tower could not score because this is a picture trick..

Spencer Lee and in japan nationals
Probably one of the few ways you can do a boatload of meth and end up a champion.
This version as compared to his ap freestyle is a little bit sloppy
