Absolutely agreed, zed is a mistake. Ezreal is a staple, he is basically always played. Like, even when he's out of the meta, if all the adcs are banned, he is the go to.

Where is the cow? Alistair has always been a good pick because of his reliable engage and ridiculous tankyness. So much so I'm pretty sure he is the most banned champion at worlds. Just look at how many clips he appears in this video.
I think Kennen should've been on the list hands down just cuz of how versatile he is as a pick in competitive play. He has been played Mid (AP), Top (AP & AD), ADC and yes, even as a Support in Korea. He has so much utility in his kit and can be used in so many ways.
I think he's not picked here due to his susceptibility to nerfs and buffs. Several buffs on him put him on pick/ban priority in some metas, while his nerfs on other metas only make him a decent cheese pick. I think that's also why we have seen Kennen played in other roles, but not as consistent as Lulu or Shen.
Kennen has been in and out. Was he played at all before season 5? Then he spiked up around then, but then flew out and people had to adapt for him. Even then he still hasn't had that big of an impact if you compare him to someone like Gragas who is rarely out of the meta to begin with

Feels good when you decided to guess the top 4, and youre right. I wanted to say the only champ that felt out of place on the list was Rumble, but then I remembered why I original picked him up (Im a Rumble/Rengar main), and I realized how hype/dominant Rumble used to be in pro play. I just tend to forget nowadays bc I never see other people play Rumble anymore.
Surprised to not see Renekton in here, he's basically the Orianna of the top lane in the sense that all top lane champions were measured against him for the longest time.
Mostly cause Bruisers are too weak to be used in competitive when tanks are even remotely viable. They don't have enough crowd control to make the actual carries shine.
Renekton was only good because the meta allowed him to be. There's more sustain floating around at level 1 now and more champions can use that to put on a freeze. Renekton's lane pressure demands that he pushes in to get a favorable trade, and Like riven, his cooldowns are longer early on which makes it easier to exploit him. Even if the matchup is super lopsided in his favor, competitive teams can just lane swap and win easily off of that, since he relies on a good early lane to be useful past that point. And if they're going to do that, then they can afford a bad botlane match up as well, meaning they can pick a mid-late game marksman and a weak lane tank and just feed the former all of the farm.
She has always been among the strongest junglers, such as Lee Sin and Jarvan/Gragas/Evelynn so she should definitely have been on the list instead of Lucian or Zed.
I would have thought this list goes something like.. Kalista(Dominated the meta for almost every season since her release) Ezreal(Versatile pick that almost never fell off other than S7) Orianna(Huge teamfight and you can never underestimate) Ryze(This thing is self explanatory) Shen(Huge meta shift and global pressure) Rumble(Staple pick for an AP top laner in any non-tank meta, or even a tank meta for that matter) Elise(Great jungler since release and can be picked into huge early pressure) Gragas(Huge mid laner and transit well into jungle) Nidalee(Almost the same as Gragas) Syndra(relevant for 3 seasons and still a huge force to be reckon with)

Replace Lucian with Ryze ( or even Irelia) We Love Lucian with his outplays but think Ezreal with his diverse build over the years is also a contender Ashe with her utility and always meta Vayne who has been play all 3 lanes and carry 1 vs 5 carry in pro play over shadows Lucian. Unless if you make all 4 number 10. Ryze has been a signature pick for pro play not just Faker. From early seasons where he was a late game point and click power house to a skill shot perfectly combo assassin. To Utility roamer with insane wave clear and dmg potential Pro player has been using and abusing Ryze that he has always been nerfed or remake after a tournament. Nerf his dmg. Increase mana cost. Change his wave clear. Skill shots Remove spell vamp from his R "Zhonys" cancel R.
I’m not a league player but everytime I watch highlights on league, I always spot that snake girl on midlane idk if that hero is a must pick/ban but ive seen her quite a lot.
Can't argue with that top 3. Orianna and Thresh have almost NEVER been out of the meta ever since their release, and as for Lee, well, he's Riot's Special Snowflake who they insist ALWAYS has to be viable.
Azir should have a spot in my opinion, a champion that brings so many useful tools for the competitive with such a level required skill to play him. It has been top tier in every meta in wich he hasnt been nerfed to oblivion. And with Kalista is one of the few champions that need to be incredibly underpowered for the common player to preserve the pro level meta. Said like that almost sounds like Azir design is flawed.

Aaponton Too new is almost three years? Thats new. For that reason, I expected to see her here because of how trash Rito made her since she dominated bot and almost every single matchup. She changed the meta so much that you needed to ban her and any support that went well with her. Her kit was something that could made the most awful of supports into god tier because of the Fate Calling. 2015 was proof of it and this worlds was almost the same or worse since she got like 90% ban rate.
The problem with this list isn't the lack of AD carries, but the lack of Caitlyn. She's the Orianna of all Marksmen. Safe and consistent in and out of lane, works with any support pick without any particular favorites, and she is absolutely oppressive on a macro level, while fitting into any meta by virtue of her niche. She's the best ADC for sieges, pushing, and objective control, as her traps actually let you secure an area for your team to push onto baron/dragon with enough patience, while also denying the enemy team the ability to contest towers safely if you have an initiator to threaten the gap by her trap-line. Even before her rework she saw tons of use for explicitly that reason. Her damage curve throughout a game is weaker than a lot of ADCs, but she makes up for it in spades. People all over the place have mentioned other ADCs, but none of them should be on this list more than Caitlyn. I'll address them all below: Ezreal's one of those champs who was great when he came out but has gotten worse with age. He originally was a decent poke champion and a mid game powerhouse but the item changes and the lack of support in his kit have made that nigh impossible to really exploit. Corki, Lucian and Graves (when he was played Bot Lane) all fit on a similar power curve as Ezreal but their scaling and AoE clear potential makes them work a lot better in mid and jungle respectively, which gives them the boost they need to actually be a viable flex pick, though Corki's outclassed in bot lane nowadays. Tristana on the other hand has the same issues as Ezreal. She used to occupy the same niche as Cait by virtue of having the best auto attack range late game as well as better self peel and a usable escape that lets her snowball in teamfights, but she has been outclassed in different ways by both Caitlyn and the other late-game carries (Twitch, Kog'Maw, Jinx), each of whom has better laning stages, snowball potential, and mid-game utility, but those latter three are also only pick/ban worthy when the meta supports them, and otherwise only see play when the team composition needs insurance. I'd argue she's the worst ADC. If it weren't for her late game, she'd never see play. Jhin & Varus are poke champs that happen to scale on AD. They're only good when the AD Caster items are, but they do have some use as marksmen with teamfight ults. But there are better marksmen for that which actually use crit items well: Sivir, Kalista, and Ashe. Of those three, Sivir's always been the most niche pick. If dive focused bruisers are good she's in meta, as that's what her utility ult is all about. When Karma was the meta support pick she was also popular as they both work incredibly well together. However, in terms of utility ADC picks, Ashe has better longevity by comparison, and Kalista offers more if you can close games out fast enough, albeit only when you're ahead enough to not worry about securing Baron & Dragon control. Vayne, Draven, Quinn, and MF aren't viable competitively. MF might see use in competitive when her burst's broken (or when the ADC pool was smaller), but Draven's already been proven to be worthless unless you outclass your opponents (his entire gameplan hinges on his level 1-2 all in, which every competitive team can predict and stop with a Cait pick). Vayne's better than Draven in the mid-late game, but her laning stage is god awful, which carries into her poor mid game. She is absolutely horrid against a good team with her weak push and farm potential, short auto range, lack of burst, and inability to fit into any other role. If she had the base stats to survive it, she'd be pick/banned and played top lane competitively instead of seeing any play in Bot, but that's a fault of her niche kit. Quinn has similar problems, but has already shifted to a niche top lane pick who's seriously outclassed by Jayce & Kennen, despite having the ability to skip Teleport thanks to her ult. That all said, Draven, Quinn and MF work very well with the AD caster items, but if those are good enough for competitive to warrant picking those three then Xayah, Trist, and Cait will get played over them cause of their safety against the AD Bruisers & Assassins that exploit those items. They're all amazing ranked picks for different reasons, however. Finally, as for Xayah, she simply hasn't had enough time to shine yet. However, I believe she'll continue to be in meta for a long time, as she's taken the one niche Trist had left, and done it better. She is the best self-peel/anti-dive/follow-up-cc Marksman, but her kit doesn't scale that well unless you're teamfighting all the time. She also has a better laning stage. So when Cait feels too risky and Kalista puts you on too short of a timer, she'll be there to bridge that gap.
Trist's good because of her late game. Her early-mid game is awful. Her E is backloaded burst that also gives her a passive that forces her to auto push. Her Q's a steroid that has to be maxed second to really shine, her W has a small AoE and is easy to avoid with a dash, and isn't really worth maxing as it scales poorly despite being her most reliable burst ability. Her Ult's good for burst, but she's in a duo lane, which weakens the value it and all of her other abilities bring to a team fight. She's only good when crit items and/or passive supports are the favored meta, and even then there are are better picks. Oh, and her E is limited to her auto range, so she gets out poked the vast majority of the time. Her extended trade ability is good, but good luck really abusing that when you auto push. If she's in the meta, the supports that she wants to be with in the late game are just as likely to be picked up by the enemy team. Twitch and Vayne are the only ones with worse early games, but the former's power spike comes a lot sooner than hers thanks to his ult, while the latter isn't viable in competitive at all. MF's a worse competitive pick but she's also got an early/mid game worth respecting.
Trist is good because of her early push lmao. Her E helps with that. She also does not get outpoked because of her passive giving her more auto-attack range and also more range to cast her E. Only Caitlyn could outpoke her early, but Tristana is favoured because unlike Caitlyn she actually has a late game. Her ult is great in teamfights if you need to peel the team off, but also for the good burst onto a squishy target. Her W reset on kills and assists allows for even more self-peel which other ADC's don't have (except Twitch with his stealth). Regarding her power-spike though, it's the mid-late game (three items in) which she gets faster than Vayne and Twitch because of her early push so she is able to roam and deny some creeps from the enemy.
I feel like Maokai should be somewhere in there, there never really was a time where he wasn't picked at least once every few games and most of the time hes just a pick or ban champion.
Ezreal was more of a diverse pick imo maybe even Vayne in the competitive scene because of how basic her kit is but showed it can be played mechanically and effectively well
Maokai has been a perennial stable of the toplane for too many years not to make it here, even if he's not flashy. Azir was one of the most midlane-warping midlaners since he came out. Leblanc also might deserve a mention, but not over the ones on this list.
I still think thresh shld be no.1. He changed how riot makes supports as well as changed the mind set that Supports can't carry their team, directly or indirectly

In normal and ranked games, yes. Particularly due to his silence and snowball potential (even if behind). His early game was considerably too weak to be considered a competitive LoL staple champ. And of course, for a champion with strong snowball potential at any point in the game, he's still considered rarely picked in competitive. You can't disagree that Orianna and Zed are more important picks than Kassadin.
Keyword: "EU LCS Season 3" Don't treat EU LCS as the entire world meta. You can argue it better, but don't just use EU. Yes, it was Assassins Mid Meta that time, but Zed and Ahri had higher pick rates since they have safer, more sustained lanes than Kassadin. Even Fizz is considered a safer pick that time. Ori, Gragas, and Twisted Fate (at least before the 2013 Worlds nerfs) were also considered better picks due to their playmaking abilities. But don't rub it the wrong way, Kassadin is one of the strongest mids in the game during that time, but the best teams back then know how to abuse Kassadin's weak early game and considerably slow scaling (at least without any kind of snowballing). Kassadin's must-ban status in EU LCS 2013 also needs to be contextualized. EU LCS meta greatly favored Assassin Mid Compositions (heck, Dexter even argued that He and Nukeduck invented Assassins Mid). Moreover, EU LCS had one of the deepest mid lane talent pools that time (xPeke, Alex Ich, Nukeduck, etc.). And lastly, not banning Kassadin in a league with an xPeke is asking for blood.
Additionally, if you are going to think about it that way, your so-called Kassadin's must-ban status in Season 3 and 4 only adds basis to his exclusion to the conversation as one of League's most important champions. He is either banned or out of consideration to be able to reach a status of significance.
How did alistar not make the list? He is the trademark playmaker support, every good playmake support has an alistar and he never really fell out of meta. He was played support and sometimes even top and is pretty much just the OG playmaking support Also Ezreal should definetly be top 5. Never falls out of meta (and I mean NEVER). Used to be one of the best scaling adcs alongside cait, blue build ezreal being the safest adc (and ezreal in general playing different to most adcs as he’s an ad caster), midlane ap ezreal in s5 (look at GIA xPepii and UOL PoverOfEvil) and then Ezreal jungle for a while (eg WE Condi), then really old ezreal styles like in a really old match where Rekkles went phantom dancer into Infinity edge playing ezreal into doublelifts vayne. Dunno what match that was but it’s referenced in a video where both of them talk backstage

I like how there's no ADC champions on this list other than Lucian, and he isn't even played as ADC in recent seasons... The most impactful roles are always mid or jungle, with a little bit of top and support. Play making ADCs are generally better in other roles like Lucian and Ezreal (only good now because of kelpto being op)

Can't argue with that top 3. Orianna and Thresh have almost NEVER been out of the meta ever since their release, and as for Lee, well, he's Riot's Special Snowflake who they insist ALWAYS has to be viable.
Azir should have a spot in my opinion, a champion that brings so many useful tools for the competitive with such a level required skill to play him. It has been top tier in every meta in wich he hasnt been nerfed to oblivion. And with Kalista is one of the few champions that need to be incredibly underpowered for the common player to preserve the pro level meta.

Aaponton Too new is almost three years? Thats new. For that reason, I expected to see her here because of how trash Rito made her since she dominated bot and almost every single matchup. She changed the meta so much that you needed to ban her and any support that went well with her. Her kit was something that could made the most awful of supports into god tier because of the Fate Calling. 2015 was proof of it and this worlds was almost the same or worse since she got like 90% ban rate.

The problem with this list isn't the lack of AD carries, but the lack of Caitlyn. She's the Orianna of all Marksmen. Safe and consistent in and out of lane, works with any support pick without any particular favorites, and she is absolutely oppressive on a macro level, while fitting into any meta by virtue of her niche. She's the best ADC for sieges, pushing, and objective control, as her traps actually let you secure an area for your team to push onto baron/dragon with enough patience, while also denying the enemy team the ability to contest towers safely if you have an initiator to threaten the gap by her trap-line. Even before her rework she saw tons of use for explicitly that reason. Her damage curve throughout a game is weaker than a lot of ADCs, but she makes up for it in spades.
People all over the place have mentioned other ADCs, but none of them should be on this list more than Caitlyn. I'll address them all below:
Ezreal's one of those champs who was great when he came out but has gotten worse with age. He originally was a decent poke champion and a mid game powerhouse but the item changes and the lack of support in his kit have made that nigh impossible to really exploit. Corki, Lucian and Graves (when he was played Bot Lane) all fit on a similar power curve as Ezreal but their scaling and AoE clear potential makes them work a lot better in mid and jungle respectively, which gives them the boost they need to actually be a viable flex pick, though Corki's outclassed in bot lane nowadays.
Tristana on the other hand has the same issues as Ezreal. She used to occupy the same niche as Cait by virtue of having the best auto attack range late game as well as better self peel and a usable escape that lets her snowball in teamfights, but she has been outclassed in different ways by both Caitlyn and the other late-game carries (Twitch, Kog'Maw, Jinx), each of whom has better laning stages, snowball potential, and mid-game utility, but those latter three are also only pick/ban worthy when the meta supports them, and otherwise only see play when the team composition needs insurance. I'd argue she's the worst ADC. If it weren't for her late game, she'd never see play.
Jhin & Varus are poke champs that happen to scale on AD. They're only good when the AD Caster items are, but they do have some use as marksmen with teamfight ults. But there are better marksmen for that which actually use crit items well: Sivir, Kalista, and Ashe. Of those three, Sivir's always been the most niche pick. If dive focused bruisers are good she's in meta, as that's what her utility ult is all about. When Karma was the meta support pick she was also popular as they both work incredibly well together. However, in terms of utility ADC picks, Ashe has better longevity by comparison, and Kalista offers more if you can close games out fast enough, albeit only when you're ahead enough to not worry about securing Baron & Dragon control.
Vayne, Draven, Quinn, and MF aren't viable competitively. MF might see use in competitive when her burst's broken (or when the ADC pool was smaller), but Draven's already been proven to be worthless unless you outclass your opponents (his entire gameplan hinges on his level 1-2 all in, which every competitive team can predict and stop with a Cait pick). Vayne's better than Draven in the mid-late game, but her laning stage is god awful, which carries into her poor mid game. She is absolutely horrid against a good team with her weak push and farm potential, short auto range, lack of burst, and inability to fit into any other role. If she had the base stats to survive it, she'd be pick/banned and played top lane competitively instead of seeing any play in Bot, but that's a fault of her niche kit. Quinn has similar problems, but has already shifted to a niche top lane pick who's seriously outclassed by Jayce & Kennen, despite having the ability to skip Teleport thanks to her ult. That all said, Draven, Quinn and MF work very well with the AD caster items, but if those are good enough for competitive to warrant picking those three then Xayah, Trist, and Cait will get played over them cause of their safety against the AD Bruisers & Assassins that exploit those items. They're all amazing ranked picks for different reasons, however.
Finally, as for Xayah, she simply hasn't had enough time to shine yet. However, I believe she'll continue to be in meta for a long time, as she's taken the one niche Trist had left, and done it better. She is the best self-peel/anti-dive/follow-up-cc Marksman, but her kit doesn't scale that well unless you're teamfighting all the time. She also has a better laning stage. So when Cait feels too risky and Kalista puts you on too short of a timer, she'll be there to bridge that gap.
Tristana? Worst ADC? Do you even play the game
Trist's good because of her late game. Her early-mid game is awful. Her E is backloaded burst that also gives her a passive that forces her to auto push. Her Q's a steroid that has to be maxed second to really shine, her W has a small AoE and is easy to avoid with a dash, and isn't really worth maxing as it scales poorly despite being her most reliable burst ability. Her Ult's good for burst, but she's in a duo lane, which weakens the value it and all of her other abilities bring to a team fight. She's only good when crit items and/or passive supports are the favored meta, and even then there are are better picks.
Oh, and her E is limited to her auto range, so she gets out poked the vast majority of the time. Her extended trade ability is good, but good luck really abusing that when you auto push. If she's in the meta, the supports that she wants to be with in the late game are just as likely to be picked up by the enemy team.
Twitch and Vayne are the only ones with worse early games, but the former's power spike comes a lot sooner than hers thanks to his ult, while the latter isn't viable in competitive at all. MF's a worse competitive pick but she's also got an early/mid game worth respecting.
Trist is good because of her early push lmao. Her E helps with that. She also does not get outpoked because of her passive giving her more auto-attack range and also more range to cast her E. Only Caitlyn could outpoke her early, but Tristana is favoured because unlike Caitlyn she actually has a late game. Her ult is great in teamfights if you need to peel the team off, but also for the good burst onto a squishy target. Her W reset on kills and assists allows for even more self-peel which other ADC's don't have (except Twitch with his stealth). Regarding her power-spike though, it's the mid-late game (three items in) which she gets faster than Vayne and Twitch because of her early push so she is able to roam and deny some creeps from the enemy.
I feel like Maokai should be somewhere in there, there never really was a time where he wasn't picked at least once every few games and most of the time hes just a pick or ban champion.
Ezreal was more of a diverse pick imo maybe even Vayne in the competitive scene because of how basic her kit is but showed it can be played mechanically and effectively well

Maokai has been a perennial stable of the toplane for too many years not to make it here, even if he's not flashy. Azir was one of the most midlane-warping midlaners since he came out. Leblanc also might deserve a mention, but not over the ones on this list.

In normal and ranked games, yes. Particularly due to his silence and snowball potential (even if behind). His early game was considerably too weak to be considered a competitive LoL staple champ. And of course, for a champion with strong snowball potential at any point in the game, he's still considered rarely picked in competitive.

Yes, it was Assassins Mid Meta that time, but Zed and Ahri had higher pick rates since they have safer, more sustained lanes than Kassadin. Even Fizz is considered a safer pick that time. Ori, Gragas, and Twisted Fate (at least before the 2013 Worlds nerfs) were also considered better picks due to their playmaking abilities.
But don't rub it the wrong way, Kassadin is one of the strongest mids in the game during that time, but the best teams back then know how to abuse Kassadin's weak early game and considerably slow scaling (at least without any kind of snowballing).
Kassadin's must-ban status in EU LCS 2013 also needs to be contextualized. EU LCS meta greatly favored Assassin Mid Compositions (heck, Dexter even argued that He and Nukeduck invented Assassins Mid). Moreover, EU LCS had one of the deepest mid lane talent pools that time (xPeke, Alex Ich, Nukeduck, etc.). And lastly, not banning Kassadin in a league with an xPeke is asking for blood.
Additionally, if you are going to think about it that way, your so-called Kassadin's must-ban status in Season 3 and 4 only adds basis to his exclusion to the conversation as one of League's most important champions. He is either banned or out of consideration to be able to reach a status of significance.

How did alistar not make the list? He is the trademark playmaker support, every good playmake support has an alistar and he never really fell out of meta. He was played support and sometimes even top and is pretty much just the OG playmaking support
Also Ezreal should definetly be top 5. Never falls out of meta (and I mean NEVER). Used to be one of the best scaling adcs alongside cait, blue build ezreal being the safest adc (and ezreal in general playing different to most adcs as he’s an ad caster), midlane ap ezreal in s5 (look at GIA xPepii and UOL PoverOfEvil) and then Ezreal jungle for a while (eg WE Condi), then really old ezreal styles like in a really old match where Rekkles went phantom dancer into Infinity edge playing ezreal into doublelifts vayne. Dunno what match that was but it’s referenced in a video where both of them talk backstage

I like how there's no ADC champions on this list other than Lucian, and he isn't even played as ADC in recent seasons... The most impactful roles are always mid or jungle, with a little bit of top and support. Play making ADCs are generally better in other roles like Lucian and Ezreal (only good now because of kelpto being op)

Those are the champions that riot had to change because the people in the competetive scene where just too good with them. Azir changed the way midlane was played and kalista was pretty much a 100% pick or ban when she was vailable. Rumble on the other hand gets played sometimes when he just really fits but Kalista got picked regardless of what comp you where playing.
