Fantastic explanation Hugo as always, very accurate :) I hope you'll make a video where you discuss about ID pass and how manage them properly, I, for istance unpremult each single ID pass before using them as mask and premult all at the end before to use effects like glow, defocus, etc etc
+WorldGame I could do one about ID's for sure, in my list now. Here is my list of next videos, so far: - P_Matte - Reconcile 3D - Relight in Nuke - UV’s and Stmap in Nuke - Using the Lens Distort Node (STMAPS) - 3D Tracking - Removing Leonard from a plate - Shadows Extraction - Deep Comp - Motion Blur - Making a Vignette - Fire Glows - Relighting CG - Occluding 2D layers using geometry or Position pass - Better at building a team with juniors and grow them to mid level. - Object IDs

+TROLARD vincent VFX I will don't worry, every week. I am planning to branch to other topics also, not only Nuke. Some onset, photo, 3D, etc. All under 6-7 min each
The Divide and minus can be used to extract passes from the beauty. Since you can plus a pass you can also minus it and since you can multiply you can also divide.
Again, thanks for all this tutorials-tips-masterclasses! I will say that if you can make something of an intro to gizmos or scripts like this. Where can we download the passes for the tutorial?
Great tutorial. I have problems with refraction passes (water bottle). If i put it on plus the result is not the same as in beauty render. I don't know what am i doing wrong. We use vray for maya
I watch this several time and I try to rebuild redshift shader inside nuke, but I never get the same result. There is alway missing something, kind of reflection or direct light.
Well first off this video is for VRay but Arnold should be the same. Maybe try minus all the AOVs to check if there is any leftover image. Maybe the 3D shaders are being mixed with regular shaders in Maya? Without swing your comp it’s hard for me to know for sure what could be wrong.
@@HugosDesk Actually, I watched most of tutorials of you are working on and you using Redshift as a renderer because it is fast. I tried to apply the same technique as you rebuild a shader in nuke, result compare to beauty is 1:1. Unfortunately, I never get the same result both with the standard AOV or the raw AOV. I read through the instruction of RS document and follow each step but still not get it docs.redshift3d.com/display/RSDOCS/Integrated+AOVs?product=3dsmax#IntegratedAOVs-Nuke.1 Here is my nuke script, if you have time. Please correct me, I am a newbie and the world of compositing is not familiar with me. www.dropbox.com/sh/6nbtpx7u5rusd4b/AACH1v6GPkRbbJ7qpnGa7JHla?dl=0 Thanks for your respond. Have a nice day.
I know this is an older upload... I'm looking obtain a similar result in Arnold but am having issues finding the equivalent to the Lighting pass and Raw Gi. The albedo AOV's looked like the answer but am unable to reproduce the beauty.
how do i merge over two beauty before the passes, if both shares the same lighting? (i dont want to rebuild the passes again) i have the problem of the merged 2nd beauty becoming darker than it should've.
+Hugo's Desk 1. i take raw passes from the lighter. 2. i build the passes, do some comp/cc. 3. lighter gave me new light update, but this time only one specific part (say a roof of a building instead of the whole building) to save render time. 4. i merge(over) the roof over the old one, before the diffuse, spec, etc 5. Now the roof becomes darker.
+Jihan Gaban Do you have a alpha or ID just for the roof? You may need to remove the old roof from the comp but keep the rest of the lighting? If you want send me 1 frame and I can have a look.
+dasnico13 The Only advantages are to have control over the diffuse without affecting the lights. Also very good to change the light without affecting the diffuse textures. It makes feel closer to working like a 3D shader artist. But for most of the projects, specially the quick turn around ones, I use the regular passes. Btw, thanks for watching.
you can add some new effects that arent in render. for example you can relight your scene with fake lights. or add some fake reflections. new textures etc. all is very cheap
I joined The Mill India after watching your videos. They were very much useful for me. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
No problem, very humbled by your comment, I wish you the best of luck at The Mill. It’s a Fantastic company. Thanks so much for following my videos.
This is the next level stuff you can't find when learning anything in 3d. Thank you!

Oh really cool !Tanks a lot :)
Thank so much for the tutorial, can you please share the project file for practicing...
I seen some people using divide instead of multiply on the raw passes. Is there a reason for this or are both the same operation?
If you wanted to get the RAW reflection you would divide the reflection filter with the reflection, for example.
The Divide and minus can be used to extract passes from the beauty. Since you can plus a pass you can also minus it and since you can multiply you can also divide.
Thanks dude, really good video :)

+Victor Manuel Enriquez Diaz Thanks so much for the kind words. Sorry I forget, it is in the description now. Cheers
wow, thanks for this! super helpful :)
Can you make a tutorial on how to make a vfx breakdown?
this is great thank you
+Malvision Thank you for watching
may be you can final post production about interior design or exterior design
as always... thank you

Solved: Divide the Albedo by the Beauty -> grade Albedo (or whatever) and multiply back on beauty. So simple...
a tutorial on deep compositing next??
Thank you!
Hii sir how to solve edge issue in Nuke when 2 object intersect each other
do you have any comp tutorial with live action plate?
Hey Hugo would it be possible for you to explain how we could do the same with Arnold Passes. I'm having trouble translating to that render package
you can do the same with aovs
I'm a regular student of your classes
how do i merge over two beauty before the passes, if both shares the same lighting? (i dont want to rebuild the passes again) i have the problem of the merged 2nd beauty becoming darker than it should've.

what is the advantage with using RAW passes? thx!!
