- LIVE STREAM: MILL HILL vs FINBOROUGH | SCHOOLS RUGBY QUADRUPLE HEADER
10.30am - U14A
11.30am - U15A
12.40 - 2nd XV
2pm - 1st XV
This Saturday 16th November Mill Hill and Finborough meet at Saracens’ StoneX Stadium in a quadruple header across the age-grades.
Four games will take place at the Stadium, with the 1st XV, 2nd XV, U15 A, and U14 A teams all taking part. All four games will be live here on NextGenXV, beginning with the U14s at 10.30am, followed by the U15s at 11.30am, the 2nd XVs at 12.40pm, and the 1st XV game at 2pm.
It promises to be a fantastic day of action, both schools have had some wonderful sides across the age groups in recent years - not least at 1st XV level, where Finborough reached the Continental Tyres Schools Cup semi finals in 2023 and Mill Hill’s burgeoning partnership with Saracens has seen them grow and grow, with a 72% win rate last year and an outstanding 89% record this year.
The 1st XV game at 2pm should be a fantastic one, Mill Hill have been exceptional, only Harrow have got the better of them this year and they gave the reigning Schools Cup champions a fantastic game.
Finborough’s 1st XV season has been a little tougher, but they showed their credentials with a strong showing at the Merchiston Festival. The two sides have two common opponents, Felsted and Northampton School for Boys. Both beat Felsted, though more recently both side’s most recent game was against NSB, Mill Hill winning 42-20 and Finborough losing a tight one 23-19.
That suggests an advantage to Mill Hill, but this is a huge game and Finborough have real experience of playing in big games and competing hard - so expect a tight battle in what should be a fantastic game of rugby.
The two sides have not met before at any level, which only serves to make this game even more exciting, it is a step into the unknown. More importantly, it is an incredible experience for all involved, to play at the stadium where the likes of England captain Jamie George, Saracens captain Maro Itoje, and England’s star man Ben Earl call home.
Schools rugby is about making memories, and sometimes 1st XVs have greater access to those special memories than others, but on Saturday that will filter down. The 2nd XV game is going to be an interesting one, neither side has quite had the season that they would like but will therefore be eyeing this one up and thinking that it is a huge opportunity to spark a fantastic second half of the season.
The U15 A game should be fantastic as well, particular as both are also competing hard in the Cup - Finborough have a Cup tie against Ipswich on Thursday, while Mill Hill are due to play Hampton after this game. Finborough have been playing some wonderful stuff and will arrive confident, and though Mill Hill didn’t have the first half of term they wanted, they have a side that is bursting with quality - as shown by a tremendous U14 season last year.
Over in the U14s, we have two sides that are bang in form. Mill Hill didn’t start the season as they would have wanted, but having got over that wobble they have been sensational - at one point winning five in a six game stretch. Finborough have been sensational throughout though, they are unbeaten with seven from seven and are going to be looking forward to another chance to perform.
For all sides though, U14A to 1st XV, this is about more than the game, it’s about a day to cherish and remember. The stands will be packed, the atmosphere fantastic, and the opportunity immense for all involved. It should be a very special day.
