Get a grip, ladies! This is a great piece of fusion work, very creative and beautifully done!! Dance is an evolving art and never stays the same - that's why we have Bollywood, Capoeira, Modern Dance, Tribal, etc etc. Globalization is the word, and as we connect with all cultures on this globe, our art and music fuses and creates beautiful new styles - embrace it!
As a Hawaiian I can tell you this is not culturally accurate. But I am happy to see they are having fun.

I love Hawaiian dance. I used to dance Hawaiian when I was in 6th grade and I love it.

Guys, you have to be careful when you're trying to fuse something that isn't part of your own heritage or wasn't shared with you by those who do have ties to it. If you wanted to belly dance to Disney music you could have done that easy, you want to belly dance an ocean-themed piece, also doable. The isolations in the belly dance segment were good, although camera tricks can't hide the points when you went out of sync, and the costumes, while definitely not traditional for either artform, did bring to mind an ocean when you were all lined up, so you might be on to something there. Just, other people's heritage isn't decoration for you to spice up your life. I would love to see a real fusion one day, crafted together jointly by practitioners of both arts. The world is getting smaller, there probably already are people of mixed Middle Eastern and Polynesian heritage out there that would love to see themselves represented as a whole.

Great job girls! Respect the comments about pure hula, but you have said that is hawai bellydance, so if you read that, that means that is a mixture. I love it. You are brave for doing new things.

This takes Hawaiian culture and makes it seem like it isn't a sacred and important part of our culture. It's the same thing as people dressing up in "hawaiian" clothing for Halloween or for some dumb "aloha" themed party

If any nationality dance some countries native dance just to show how they love and appreciate the dance. I don't see any problem of these ladies dancing the Hawaiian with the flare of belly dancing. It's actually beautiful. Some of the Hawaiian moves are tahitian.
This is the most beautiful non-competitive/synchronized combination of two dances, makes most belly dance competitions I've seen online look lame. Looks like all the group are great friends. No one is trying to "outdo" the other ...
My opinion, this is close to perfect and any hotel showroom anywhere would feature this group just sending this video as audition.

Loved this.. very artistic and choreographed very well. The blending of totally different cultures shows its possible and I hope if we all feel like this towards each other. If we just think we are all the same and equal then our world will be a better place to live esp for our children..Dancing is an expression of art regardless of its sacred or not and i disagree this is a mockery. I enjoyed watching the dance, for someone that doesnt know much of hula dance, but liking to belly dance, this looked more of a belly dance fusion to me, but i think any dance is nice as long as they do it with passion and I dont see that they've done anything wrong than express themselves through dance. call it part hula or not, they belly danced too and i think it was beautiful but the costume is weird.
I see like if they try to be waves from the ocean. With that skirts that's why they we're blue and white. That's what I see.

HAWAIIAN HERE 🤚🏼 we aren’t saying that other people cannot dance. We would like you to understand, hula is sacred to us. Not only can’t it be loosely thrown into a mix, but even the costumes feel almost like a mockery. In hula we are strict on modesty. All we ask is that this isn’t labeled as Hawaiian or Hula. Embrace other cultures, but to it correctly or don’t do it at all.

Hula has an amazing tradition so has bellydance, I think the important is to know how to fuse dance styles, and not try to make a parody, if well done fusion dance can be really good, in this case it so so
Hula has a special significance to the Hawaiian people, both spiritually and culturally. Every gesture tells a story and has a special meaning when expressed. I'm sure that they did not mean to be disrespectful when they were dancing this, but they're just a bunch of white people inadvertently mocking someone else's culture in an effort to try to be cute.

No. I dont get why you as a Black Woman do not see what this is. Its cultural appropriation. I dont see people doing this shit with Native American dances, or with Inuit dances, or west African religious dances so why is it okay for you guys to trample all over our culture. What makes me more annoyed, is I never see them trying to fuse THIER folk dances with other dances. What so European cultural dances are to remain pure, and they can bastardize everyone else's traditions? Hula is not just a d as nice for us. We come from a culture that didn't have writing before contact with non Polynesians, and Hula is our way conveying history, genealogy, and religious practices. And now it is even more important as a way of preserving out culture. If they want to fuse dances, then they are welcomed to do it to THIER dances. Not ours. And then the fact that they are dancing to a song about one of our beloved Kings. How utterly disrespectful. I am Black as well, and I can't understand why as a Black woman your eyes can be so blinded. Educate yourself. We Hawaiians are not your decoration, or playthings.

@@omggiiirl2077 they actually mix their culture with others as well :), have a look at slavic tribal belly dance or russian tribal belly dance. I myself love looking at different mixes, for me it is very creative:) but that's just me.

Disculpe, si bailan muy bien pero eso no es hula, la música si pero el baile no, para los hawaiianos ese baile es sagrado y espiritual y ciertos movimientos y cosas están prohibidas, ese movimiento de cadera no es propio del hula, y tampoco enseñar el ombligo, ya que para ellos por ahí se saldría todo el conocimiento al momento de bailar, lo confunden demasiado con el ori tahiti, pero creo que con tanta información en el internet ya viene siendo buen momento de cultivarnos y dejar de modificar las tradiciones de un pueblo que batallo demasiado para conservarlas.

That’s not true at all. Before colonizers came and ruined Hawaii, Hula was the record and way of sharing history with others. It is not just a “dance”. It is a language. A language that is not for anyone else to appropriate or bastardize with a belly dancing fusion.
Thank you for setting the record straight. I am not Hawaiian myself but you have to respect something so beautiful that a culture has invested to preserve. No need to water it down.
What we are trying to say is if your going to learn or label a dance that’s our do it right. Hula is something so sacred to us. It can’t just be “mixed”

this video itself broke my heart knowing that people make fun of Hula. I am very disappointed. My kumu Hula (leader/Hula master teacher) was in Merrie Monarch in 2001 and teaches me and the rest of the ohana in the Halau about the culture, dance and language and if I showed him this, I just imagine how much worse he would have felt about this video and how disrespectful this is. I have been in dancing since I was 4 and now I am 13 already in wahine and competition and this hurt : (

Hoi im surprised only one person has called this out. This is not hula. I grew up dancing hula. Hula is not taken seriously by so many people. Not one move in this dance is hula. Please don’t combine the two. It’s very sad that I constantly see it. People just slap on grass skirts, coconut bras, and all sorts of weird stuff to claim it as Hawaiian. Not pono at all. 😟
Aloha mai kakou, Ladies, please stick to bellydance, as your hula movements were not pono... as a practitioner of BOTH disciplines of Hula and Egyptian Bellydance, I will say that your belly dance movements were nice. HOWEVER, the hula segment lacked real hula choreography. People are allowed to express themselves however they would like, and I believe you had good intentions, but the execution was done poorly. Perhaps to more research on authentic Hawaiian Hula... I am biased, I prefer to keep each discipline seperate, though, out of respect to both cultures. mahalo
