If you simply look at the video you can see that the guards reaches above elbow height with males. The guard is about 20 centimeters above a female's center of gravity, meaning it's impossible to fall over without siginificant human error involved. That's not the engineer's fault at all

Railing and guardrail height all must be built per code in the US. I haven’t heard anything about lowering the required heights. Stair handrails @ 34”-38” above nose of tread. Guardrails @ 42”

Sorrowful story this is, all to save a hat that could be replaced or retrieved later on. I know that feeling, my hat blew off on a sail and as significant as it was to me for being from my first trip to Hawaii with my love and best friend in the world… watched as it grew smaller and smaller sinking into the ocean. Nothing is worth loosing a life over. It less matters that this was her twin, it was her sister and any sibling would make us feel the same horror this girl experienced. My heart goes out to her and her family for their loss. This never should happen to anyone ever. Building a wall won’t stop it either, so blaming the building or the escalator or the wind or bad timing changes nothing. Bad things just happen sometimes and for whatever reason, this was her time despite how it happened.

I once saved the life of an old woman, it happend in 2007 in some mall in NY, she fell hit herself but i succeeded to catch her from falling the whole plight. I stayed with her until first aid arrived. She had blood on her and i had on my shirt. I wish i could find her... To see how is she, if she is alive. I didnt think to leave a number or something, i regretted it for many years.

There's nothing wrong with the escalator, the same thing could've happened on a normal stair way. Just don't play around, you can always come back down to retrieve the hat, how many people rode on that escalator without incident since it was put up?
This is terrifying. I remember when I was maybe 4 or 5, I lost my hat on 2 separate occasions, and my dad successfully retrieved it both times. One time was on a very busy 6-lane freeway. My hat flew out the car window, and my dad went into the street and got it. And the other was even crazier, we were on a train station, and my hat blew off, onto the train tracks, and my dad hopped down (the tracks were about 5-6 feet below the station platform), and retrieved my hat off the tracks. Luckily my dad was very intelligent and athletic, and clearly had luck on his side. But seeing stories like this absolutely terrifies me, thinking about how it all could've gone very wrong. And I'm still mad at myself for crying and making such a big fuss over a stupid hat. Yes, I was 4, but I was selfish, and should've known better, even at 4. My dad should've never done that for me. I would've been upset. But I would've gotten over it. I now forever have all this guilt knowing that I made my dad risk his life twice, all over a stupid hat. I have to live with that guilt forever. But at least everything turned out okay. So it's just a "what if" guilt. But I don't think I would be able to live with myself had something happened to my dad over that stupid hat. The guilt would've consumed me. There's no way I would be alive today. I can only imagine the pain her twin sister is feeling. I hope she can somehow find peace with this horrible situation.

Railing and guardrail height all must be built per code in the US. I haven’t heard anything about lowering the required heights. Stair handrails @ 34”-38” above nose of tread. Guardrails @ 42”

Sorrowful story this is, all to save a hat that could be replaced or retrieved later on. I know that feeling, my hat blew off on a sail and as significant as it was to me for being from my first trip to Hawaii with my love and best friend in the world… watched as it grew smaller and smaller sinking into the ocean. Nothing is worth loosing a life over. It less matters that this was her twin, it was her sister and any sibling would make us feel the same horror this girl experienced. My heart goes out to her and her family for their loss. This never should happen to anyone ever. Building a wall won’t stop it either, so blaming the building or the escalator or the wind or bad timing changes nothing. Bad things just happen sometimes and for whatever reason, this was her time despite how it happened.

I once saved the life of an old woman, it happend in 2007 in some mall in NY, she fell hit herself but i succeeded to catch her from falling the whole plight. I stayed with her until first aid arrived. She had blood on her and i had on my shirt. I wish i could find her... To see how is she, if she is alive. I didnt think to leave a number or something, i regretted it for many years.

This is terrifying. I remember when I was maybe 4 or 5, I lost my hat on 2 separate occasions, and my dad successfully retrieved it both times. One time was on a very busy 6-lane freeway. My hat flew out the car window, and my dad went into the street and got it. And the other was even crazier, we were on a train station, and my hat blew off, onto the train tracks, and my dad hopped down (the tracks were about 5-6 feet below the station platform), and retrieved my hat off the tracks. Luckily my dad was very intelligent and athletic, and clearly had luck on his side. But seeing stories like this absolutely terrifies me, thinking about how it all could've gone very wrong. And I'm still mad at myself for crying and making such a big fuss over a stupid hat. Yes, I was 4, but I was selfish, and should've known better, even at 4. My dad should've never done that for me. I would've been upset. But I would've gotten over it. I now forever have all this guilt knowing that I made my dad risk his life twice, all over a stupid hat. I have to live with that guilt forever. But at least everything turned out okay. So it's just a "what if" guilt. But I don't think I would be able to live with myself had something happened to my dad over that stupid hat. The guilt would've consumed me. There's no way I would be alive today. I can only imagine the pain her twin sister is feeling. I hope she can somehow find peace with this horrible situation.
My kids would cry too..hopefully he assessed the risk and took it..but even then his choice not your fault. Personally I'd tell my child I will replace the hat and just let it go. Lol
