☆Η Σάμη είναι κωμόπολη της Κεφαλονιάς. Είναι το μεγαλύτερο λιμάνι του νησιού. Έχει 1.050 κατοίκους. Βρίσκεται στην ανατολική ακτή του νησιού, σε κόλπο, ο οποίος σχηματίζει ασφαλές λιμάνι, απέναντι από την Ιθάκη. Απέχει 22 χλμ. από το Αργοστόλι.
Στη θέση του σημερινού οικισμού έχουν βρεθεί υπολείμματα κατοίκησης από την Πρωτοελλαδική περίοδο. Στον λόφο Κράνης στους Άγιους Θεόδωρους, έχουν βρεθεί λείψανα μυκηναϊκού οικισμού. Στα γεωμετρικά χρόνια εντοπίζονται οι απαρχές μιας πόλης κράτους. Η αρχαία Σάμη ήταν μια από τις τέσσερις πόλεις- κράτη της Κεφαλονιάς που ήλεγχε το ανατολικό τμήμα του νησιού (οι άλλες ήταν η Κράνη, οι Πρόννοι και η Πάλη). Όπως και οι άλλες πόλεις του νησιού, ήταν αυτόνομη και έκοβε δικό της νόμισμα.
Στις δύο φυσικές οχυρές θέσεις που διαθέτει, δύο λόφοι στα ανατολικά του σύγχρονου οικισμού, βρισκόταν η οχυρωμένη ακρόπολη και η κλασική πόλη, η οποία είναι κτισμένη σε μεγάλα τετράγωνα. Τα οχυρωματικά έργα σώζονται μέχρι σήμερα και αποτελούν χαρακτηριστικό παράδειγμα οχυρώσεων των κλασσικών και ελληνιστικών χρόνων. Το λιμνοσπήλαιο Μελισσάνης, το σπήλαιο Δρογκαράτης καθώς και η παραλία Αντίσαμος, στην οποία γυρίστηκαν σκηνές από την ταινία "Το μαντολίνο του λοχαγού Κορέλι", βρίσκονται πολύ κοντά στη Σάμη. Ο παραλιακός δρόμος διαθέτει καφετέριες, εστιατόρια καθώς και επιλογές διαμονής. Το λιμάνι της Σάμης συνδέει το νησί με δρομολόγια με τον Αστακό, την Ιθάκη, την Πάτρα και την Ιταλία.☆
☆Sami is a small town of Kefalonia. It is the largest port of the island. It has 1.050 inhabitants. It is located on the east coast of the island, in a bay, which forms a safe harbour, opposite Ithaca. It is 22 km from Argostoli.
In the location of the present settlement, remains of habitation from the Early Helladic period have been found. On the hill of Kranis in Aghios Theodoroi, remains of a Mycenaean settlement have been found. The beginnings of a city state are found in the Geometric period. Ancient Sami was one of the four city-states of Kefalonia that controlled the eastern part of the island (the others were Krani, Proni and Pali). Like the other cities of the island, it was autonomous and minted its own currency.
On its two natural fortified sites, two hills to the east of the modern settlement, stood the fortified acropolis and the classical city, which was built in large squares. The fortifications survive to this day and are a typical example of fortifications of the classical and Hellenistic periods. The Melissani Lake Cave, the Drogaratis Cave and the beach of Antisamos, where scenes from the film "Captain Corelli's Mandolin" were filmed, are very close to Sami. The coastal road has cafes, restaurants as well as accommodation options. The port of Sami connects the island with routes to Astakos, Ithaca, Patras and Italy.☆
