Light would inevitably lose purely because the Death Note can only kill Humans, so if he even manages to stackwipe the Gang, Scooby would remain to achieve vengeance
I'd even say that Shaggy is pretty much immune to the Death Note too. There is no change what so ever he would tell anyone his 'real' name and as far as Light would be concerned Shaggy is his real name so no mater what, Shaggy stays alive.
I feel like everyone is looking from the wrong angle I feel Like they wouldn't be on the radar. Some teens from the us show up and start investigating, dude was dealing with government bodies. Buy the time Light realizes the threat of the gang it would be far to late and if they start after L's death they would have a easier time getting the information they need to solve the case. L and Light had massive ego's the gang have no issues being under the radar they don't need the credit they just want the case solved.
It depends as there’s versions of the gang who are extremely famous sleuths. So news of them showing up in Japan could reach Light. He might not treat it as an immediate threat but he’d definitely be wary

And batman is noted to be the world's greatest detective. But everyone is kind of weird for Light. Fred has a lot of experience disarming and catching traps, Scooby can talk, Shaggy isn't his real name (it's something like Norbert if memory serves) and Daphne has a lot of resources to her name. Also, the gang has seen supernatural entities before, I don't think they'd need the death note like others. So as long as they kept themselves on the DL, even while famous, they would find out Light is Kira really quick, as they are used to breaking and entering often. I genuinely can't see them losing fully. Even if Fred, Daphne, and Velma die, Shaggy is fast enough to keep up with a great Dane, Scooby can talk and the death note doesn't work on dogs, and they'd both pull through, even if accidentally. Light can't fight off a great Dane that rips off arms in the DC universe.
Light would actually struggle a bit with Shaggy and Scooby if only because Shaggy is just a nickname and the Death Note specifically only works on humans.

I think without a doubt the gang could solve the case. Danger Prone Daphne would accidentally find one of Light’s failsafes like the desk with the fake bottom, possibly setting it off and starting a fire, which Fred could easily figure out because it’s just another trap and that’s what he does. Of course that’d raise suspicions and be the first clue. At some point while the gang were talking with Light Shaggy and Scooby would get hungry and wander off mid monologue to eat some apples they saw in another room only to see them being eaten by an invisible Ryuk and freak out and tell everyone, which Light would probably try to save but would accidentally incriminate himself by letting one detail slip that Velma would absolutely catch. And once they had enough they’d set a trap with Shaggy and Scoob as bait, maybe pretending the two of them figured it out and were going to tell the others, and when Light wrote down their names in the Death Note it wouldn’t work because he would have no idea that Shaggy’s name is actually Norville Rodgers and because Scooby is a dog and immune to the Death Note. Importantly, Light would absolutely underestimate the gang. At face value they’re all complete idiots, seemingly stumbling around into success and he’d absolutely chalk up their successes to mere luck. The gangs made up of a himbo obsessed with traps, a rich girl with too many hobbies, one that’s smart but blind as shit, a gluttonous hippy, and a dog. He would absolutely miss that Mystery Incorporated are a force in their own right and make the perfect team, just like when he failed to account for Mello and Near working together.
While his ego could allow him to mess up like he did with near, the task force still let so much of Lights simple and obvious tricks go over their heads. I would say most of the gang is equal to the task force in detective skill. Daphny is really the only one who could figure it out, and she isn't anywhere near the intellegence of near or L. If we play by scooby doo's rules, then this could happen, but by death note rules, they would never get so lucky.
I think they can,they’ve gone up against way worse supernatural threats(like the evil entity),solved complex cases(mystery incorporated) and worked with Batman on many occasions,they’ve dealt with supernatural and magical artifacts before(the chest of demons,tome of doom,the wonder wand,etc),Scooby has an amazing “super sniffer” nose too that might help him track the death note I just don’t think Kira has anything the gang hasn’t seen before
Don't forget...Kira also has an ego. When he sees the Gang he'll underestimate them even more so than any others to him Shaggy and Scooby will look like cowardly gluttons while Daphne is just the rich pretty girl, Fred is average joe and velma is the only he might consider a threat but still be below him. And ultimately it will cost him because while on their own the Gang might seem run of the mill they're never to be underestimated.

Honestly, if the mystery gang were more unknown rather than world famous, they may have a better chance of catching kira. Fred himself could easily get past light's fake drawer trap as he has a knack for traps of all sorts, especially in mystery incorporated onwards. Velma is already on the same level as batman according to various crossovers, daphne has plenty of skills on her own that can come in handy, and shaggy and scooby could ironically be the trickest opponents for light, as shaggy's real name is norville rodgers, however not many people call him that, even if the scooby gang were famous, and scooby is immune to the death note anyway.
Light is cooked in different ways, his only advantage is the tone of his own story since that would radically change the format of the mystery. But Light is a dumbass, no matter what he tries to convince himself of, the gang will always catch him if they have been informed of even the slightest details about Kira. Knowing the region he operates and his method of killing are enough for the gang to counter Kira, especially considering how much less public their investigation would be and how Light would dismiss them for being teens that go around in a hippie van. The Scooby gang is too much for Light because they have solved so many mysteries over their careers that it wouldn't be hard for them to quickly figure out a list of suspects, also they have comedy shenanigans that can destroy the seriousness of death notes narrative (one of the reasons Shaggy and Scooby are so dangerous for Light, they are capable of toon force and thus far out class the death note)

I think they would be the weak links. Kira could simply talk the identities out of the duo just like he did with Ray Pember. If anything it would be easier since he could just buy them a meal.

Shaggy and Scooby would be invaluable in this case, because "Shaggy" isn't Shaggy's real name, giving him protection from the Death Note, and Scooby would be totally immune, as he isn't human.
Depending on the version they would have some supernatural contacts that would be able to elucidate the Shinigami system and give them a way to pin Kira down.
Yeah I think people forget about variations especially the mystery incorporated versions of the characters because Velma in that show was already doing what was basically spec op operations and have some experience with the supernatural and some people with varying expertise such as Velmas mom being obsessed with the supernatural and other people with similar spec op style experience.
I think they're more than capable. The real question is opportunity. Like it or not, if we go by the Death Note world, the real key to Mystery Inc. solving the case won't solely be on Velma. It would very dependent on whether or not anyone in the gang can see and interact with Ryuk, especially Scooby, since the rules are human-specific. From there, the whole mystery's scenario changes and can get very chaotic from there, whch only helps Mystery Inc. The only other option would be the gang not finding anything but if that's the case, they wouldn't even show up on Light's radar. In a world closer to the Scooby Doo Gang's adventures, easily. Although, you could make the argument that Light wouldn't have gotten as far as he did, depending on how far you want to count as Scooby's world.

I think that if the Scooby Gang actually got their hand on the Death Note they could figure it out, but only because Scooby is usually shown to be a very good tracker. It is very hard to completely remove a smell. Considering how lucky Scooby and Shaggy are, they might just stumble onto the solution from that alone. That said, I don't even know if the gang would get that far. And even if they did, Kira would probably just stop them before they connect all the dots.
the thing is...Kira's got an ego and god complex. He'll right them off because to him they would seem far less threatening. Like think about it, they have far less resources than L, they also would not go as far. The Scooby gang doesn't exactly risk the lives of others except their own. For people like that it seems easy to think they aren't serious.

Velma isn't inherently a vehement denier of the existence of a supernatural, she's a skeptic given the number of hoaxes and fakes they've encountered but would have no trouble accepting a supernatural explanation if that was the most logical one. And given that Kira's method of killing is (intentionally) remarkably consistent she would probably very quickly come to a conclusion that the supernatural is at work here. She would probably also be able to track some habits and tendencies within the deaths and come to the same initial conclusion that L did -- that they're dealing with a student in the Shinjuku area. Whether they'll be able to narrow it down to Light as a suspect is another question -- I think they will be able to if they had help from Interpol, just as L did. Regardless, once they have Light as a potential suspect and have access to his room they would likely figure him out very quickly because Light's methods of checking for intruders and spies in his room are fairly cheap parlor tricks they'd have no trouble finding -- the pencil lead on the door trick would very quickly be noticed by Fred and Velma and Scooby with his strong nose would have no problem pinning the origin of the lead to the door. In addition Fred has immediately seen through trickier trap drawers in Scooby Doo canon and correctly opened them -- and that would've immediately outed Light as the killer as he would've found both the Death Note with the original real rules and instructions as well as a comprehensive list of Kira's victims. The important thing to note here is that Light's trap drawer isn't actually particularly elaborate and would be fairly easy to figure out how to open for experienced puzzle solvers and detectives, especially if a dog could easily sniff out what was used to open it.

I thought your logic was sound. They have defeated supernatural foes before, but Light is from a genre outside their reach. Scooby Doo: Mystery Incorporated is the closest series I've seen to what we see in Death Note, and it's really darkest around the end where the gang ends up destroying a powerful alien entity that consumes everyone else in town. Still though, it's not that close a comparison, as the villains were no where near Light's level of intelligence and manipulation, and the final foe used powers more than intelligence, if I remember right.
Well, we gotta remember that Naomi almost manage to catch Kira by taking a closer look at the Bus Hijacking incident For those who don't remember: Kira was being followed by an FBI Agent by the name of Raye Pember. To make sure Kira got rid of that guy, he set up a Bus Hijacking where a random Crackhead... Well, *hijacked* a bus that Kira & Raye were at. Raye decided to give his ID to Kira, which sealed his fate as I'll explain later. Anyways, Kira gets the Crackhead to see Ryuk, he freaks out, then leaves the bus only to be killed by a car. Because of this, Raye doesn’t suspect Kira anymore & leaves him alone. But because Kira wanted him gone, he stalked Raye into a subway, made him get onto a train & write down all the names of the FBI Agents that went to Japan with him. 30 minutes later, Raye dies along with all of the FBI Agents that came with him to Japan. Turns out, Raye wrote their names on the Death Note without knowing. As for Naomi, she figured out by consulting the people who were at the bus on that time & peaced things together with relative ease. If Kira was just a couple of minutes late, or if Naomi got lucky enough to see L or Kira's dad... Kira would've been caught right then & there. I think the Scooby Gang could in theory figure this out too since you don't just SHOW someone your ID, especially if you're an FBI agent. Especially if that same agent later gets killed just a few days later. All they have to do is analise all the killings that Kira was involved with until they reach the FBI killings, NOT meet Kira until they catch him proper & it's game over for him.
The one thing I will say, since plenty of others have mentioned the Shaggy-Norville deal and Scooby, well, being a dog. A lot of Light's plans are based around deceiving other smart people and geniuses, he manipulates and controls, doing everything to make his schemes Foolproof. But the thing is, the problem with something being foolproof is that you tend to underestimate how foolish a fool can fool around foolishly. Straight man vs straight man Light wins. But Mystery inc arent straight men, they're goofy and while they lock on here and there, Shaggy and Scooby are gonna do some nonsense that Light doesn't expect or Misa will leave behind a trail he didn't account for letting Velma start a trail. In the end, it is a matter of time, the sooner Light takes out the gang the safer he is, but if he takes too long then incidental events will eventually lead to his downfall.
Honestly probably since Scooby-Doo Lore goes all over the place he'll probably just see the angel thing following Light. Oh yeah and apparently his toon force is actually a canonical thing so he'll probably just revive the gang via CPR something... Edit: Oh yeah one more thing apparently Scooby is an alien so even if the Death Note did apply to aliens, light will have a hard time trying to figure out Scooby's real name when Scooby probably doesn't even remember.
Light would actually most likely struggle to stay safe from mystery inc. Velma is as smart of a detective as Batman, Shaggy is the only member of mystery inc. who uses an alias, Fred is an expert in traps so he could easily find the death note fire trap in lights bedroom early on, and Scooby is a invincible talking dog. Overall light is likely caught thanks to Velma being as smart as L, Fred finding the death note with ease, Shaggy being unable to be killed without misa’s help, and Scooby not being an average dog.
I feel like the whole scenario would become depressing. Light may be able to justify killing L and Near, as they were in his eyes protecting a corrupt establishment, but he'd have to go through a lot more mental gymnastics to kill a bunch of meddling peers and their dog. Unlike L, they are truly ignorant and naive, and aren't a part of the corrupt establishment. I think the most likely scenario is that Scooby and Shaggy accidentally stumble upon Light with the Death Note, but though the case is 'solved', the Scooby Gang can't do anything because they know Kira has at least some of their names. Either they are pressed into service as Kira's followers, or they promise to never reveal the truth, otherwise they get killed by the Death Note. Though the threat of suddenly dying now looms over their lives, perhaps the Scooby Gang would keep Light's number, just in case they ever needed a Deus Ex Machina. Because chances are, in Light's universe, they will run into someone else who is purely evil, perhaps accidentally uncovering a despicable crime ring of the terms-of-UA-cam Service violating sort, and are so far in over their heads that when they call the police about it, THEY are arrested...and it looks like they may make the Scooby Gang disappear for knowing too much. But, they'd manage to get a message out to Light, and he'd save them as Kira. But, now that the police are looking for the Scooby Gang, they end up as Kira followers entirely, unable to go back to their normal lives due to the hit on their heads. That is, unless Kira wins...
The only true challenge for Light is Velma, but there are some implications on this. If Mystery Inc. get this case to solve in the place of L, Light most likely would win. I because Velma is too skeptical of supernatural and this would likely expose her to fall as a victim of the Death Note and once Light kills Velma, it's over for the gang, they will hardly figure out that Light is Kira without Velma. But, if they get on the investigation after L's death, they may have a chance because Velma wouldn't be too skeptical in this scenario. I feel Shaggy and Scooby would be the best chance to solve the case, they are so lucky that they may be able to touch a Death Note and then be able to see Ryuk or Rem. If they could convince Velma to consider this case as supernatural or even make the rest of the gang also see one of the shinigamis, Velma could link the dots and so Fred could make a trap to get Light.
I feel that the gang would solve the case by setting up a trap with the rest of the people on the Kira case only for Scooby and Shaggy to screw it up by setting it off too early which coincidentally revealed Light right as he finished writing 'Shaggy Rogers' in the death note, and afterwards the gang just laugh about how Light didn't know shaggy's actual name was Norville
Shaggy and Scooby actually have the high ground even on the death note world since 1- Light would strruggle into actually killing Shaggy since aliases are not valid for the note 2- Scooby is a dog, not a human. 3- The scooby gang have been able to see ghost, this added with Ryuk gluttony and Daphne giving away Scooby Snacks could put Kira on the trenches

There's nothing to say they have to solve this *alone* They can 100% call on the japanese police and wammy house , or even the television place where missa and matsuda acted. Their biggest problem isnot to survive the encounter but to expose light as kira so killing them 5 or killing them 3 and still reveal lights identity should still count as a win even if they just come into the japanese investigation team , ask for the suspects. Know lind l taylor ; deduce whoever kill him is kira , contact naomi misora ; follow her suicide incident to reveal light can manipulate people's actions before death (maybe hypnosis as many of their cases) work with the team as they do with any laboratorie they find in their series ; get the suspect list and who knew them mid death Investigate them all for who would try hypnosis and live in japan ; call wammys house for L to pass even more info without him exposing himself even more. Look the missa incident from affar while light still tries to catch L , clueless from the gang ; watch as 1 superintelligent dog follows his movement and notices how a magic apple dissapears while he throws it at the air ; still clueless when the gang just happens to set a trap his room to catch him hypno training some kind of invisible animal to murder people while also replacing the 2 steps door system ; hear how he wants to rule the world and un-alive criminals with his magic death note while he watches tv because missa did a giant mess up Trace them both once the letter is investigated look for both of them to have 1 thing in common ; the one thing is their notebook. Give it to the police for them to decipher if any of them is magical And then solve it by pure shaggy &scooby chance of seeing him throw an apple and fred having just enough speciality to place microphones on lights room without him noticing ; and missa being just special enough to do all her mess by 1 transmition from L ; and the police force and wammy house doing all the other heavy lifting .
I think that there's a very strong possibility backed in canon that Scooby could sniff out Ryuk And Fred being a master at traps would be able to find the Death Note in Light's hidden compartment in his bedroom
the problem is they are known names the only one that might be safe is shaggy depending on what the death note counts as a persons name but even if we given them immunity to that i dont see how they would figure it out
I'm gonna be real here: the Scooby-Doo gang don't stand a chance. Light is without question smarter than all of them combined. Heck if the Scooby-Doo gang is famous enough that they are called over to Japan to solve a case in place of L then there is no way Light won't find out about them. He already has access to police records to find out about them but even without that he could very easily looked them up online since unlike L they never actually had the need to hide their identities before now which means it would be far easier to find out who they are. Not to mention even IF the Scooby-Doo gang figure out that Light is Kira, what would it matter? How would they prove it? Light isn't stupid enough to willingly confess like all the other Scooby-Doo villains and the Scooby gang don't have anywhere near the same level of credit or sway over the police as L so without any solid evidence the police (especially Light's dad) won't be as willing to believe any of their claims.
While most of scooby and the gang’s old foes were just old people looking to make a buck, there have been more modern instances of the Gang going up against real supernatural threats before. The bigger question is if Mulder and Scully from the X-Files could solve this case or at least put an end to Kira’s reign of terror.
It’s kinda funny but also sad how most of these “can X solve the Death Note,” is just, “Who could’ve done what L couldn’t.” Although in this instance I think you were pretty fair in explaining where their strengths and weaknesses lie, and gave good reasons for why they couldn’t solve it, but also explained how far they could possibly get. If there was one thing I wanted to point out, it’s something that a lot of people who theorize about this often miss. How could they make the connection between Miss and the Death Note? We’ve all seen and thought about Batman or Columbo accusing Light of being Kira, but they always forget about Misa. Personally, I think if the gang has any chance against Kira, it’s by making Misa join their side, or by somehow convincing Rem that Misa would be better off with Kira in jail.
The scooby gang might lose to Light but Light would be intelectually ragdolled by Professor Pericles. Even L would be outsmarted by Pericles at best high-diff.
Another thing they have is plot manipulation, in mystery incorporated episode with the robotic crab we see on one second theres no sand in the locker but like a second later sand shows up out of no where also i do think they can trick him because also in mystery inc where they get all of the disc they tricked the old mystery incorporated(most of them are not as smart as light but should have the experience to know about mysteries and also the bird of the old mystery incorporated is just as smart if not more intelligent than light and has more experience and they still cooked up a plan to trick all of them), also with light traps that destroys the death note wouldn't work because fred would find out there is a trap and know exactly how to deal with that trap

A nice video but you put this scenario as if it was only in death note's and not account for the rules of scooby doo lore. a true fair viewpoint is one that applies both into account. from how i see it this would need to account for when the mystery gang is in their career and when for light this is. since you said after L's disapperance i'll say a year after L's death, where Light's ego is boosted and trying to pretend to be L. he has Misa and no one else. (i'm settting it so the guy who got him busted isnt here for it.) for the mystery gang it depends on there age. i'll set them as there ages as collage level where is around Light's age. this is when they are still not as well known but out travelling the world. velma is basically batman level smart with science and deduction. she would most likely like L, narrow down Kira's location to japan and follow the trail similar to Naomi did and that could help narrow it down to light. they would also realize they might need to use fake IDs by this point. also Velma is capable of hacking to see what the task force have in their files. due to the point in time for their careers mystery inc wont have enough sway to ask for infomation. Light dealing with Velma is light dealing with another L. fred is a master of traps and can instantly bypass traps and Daphne is always got a weird backup plan for them and at one point learns martial arts. both are smart in their own ways and notice small details others dont. (the fire drawer trap and pencil lead trap would be seen and dealt with.) Shaggy never goes by his real name anyways and he would be silly enough to use an alias to hide his alias. Also he is far stronger and faster than others think. all of them would cover each others weaknesses and be hard for light to defeat and risk losing to if he even for a second underestimates them and underestimate them he will, at least in the beginning. Light also has to be careful with Misa because she could risk giving him away. the greatest threat though is Scooby Doo himself. even is Light could kill the mystery gang they would still have to deal with Scooby Doo simply because he is a dog. Dogs cant be affected by the death note. we also have the potential for Scooby and Shaggy accidentally finding evidence about Ryuk simply because they decided to enjoy some apples. besides if Light did kill the humans of mystery inc, what is Light going to do when a pissed off talking great dane with a speech impediment comes rolling in with a tank and aiming it at Light's face and no escape route and a voice recording of Light's bragging after he thought he won? is it was when Near was around but with mystery inc instead of Near it would have resulted in Light losing due to the same reason he lost in canon but but at a time mystery inc is famous, would still end with members of the gang dying but Light would still lose. Light would only win if you take away the wackiness of Scooby Doo but taking away the seriousness of deathnote is equally unfair. for this kind of debate we need a even amount of both. i think Light managing to kill Fred, Daphne and Velma is most likely to happen in this scenario but will result in him being caught by either Scooby or Shaggy and Scooby depending on if Light can ever learn Shaggy's real name, a name he won't want ever being learned. (these two may be cowards but they put that fear aside for their friends.) so in my opinion Mystery Inc. solves the case but with extreme difficulty.
You don't understand Scooby Doo at all. The gang would already be looking into the kira case staying out of the way because people are dropping dead. They aren't stupid. Light made a lot of mistakes before he killed L and with L death velma would know light is the killer. Of this is base off them already have met L. To be honest…I don’t see it. I love the Scooby gang, but the majority of their main opponents are committing financial crimes, or murders, usually with technology. The amount of supernatural phenomena they’ve detectivized is quite slim. On top of that (given the circumstances set up), Light would know exactly who they are and be able to kill 4/5ths of them whenever he wants.

But everyone is kind of weird for Light. Fred has a lot of experience disarming and catching traps, Scooby can talk, Shaggy isn't his real name (it's something like Norbert if memory serves) and Daphne has a lot of resources to her name.
Also, the gang has seen supernatural entities before, I don't think they'd need the death note like others.
So as long as they kept themselves on the DL, even while famous, they would find out Light is Kira really quick, as they are used to breaking and entering often.
I genuinely can't see them losing fully. Even if Fred, Daphne, and Velma die, Shaggy is fast enough to keep up with a great Dane, Scooby can talk and the death note doesn't work on dogs, and they'd both pull through, even if accidentally. Light can't fight off a great Dane that rips off arms in the DC universe.

I think without a doubt the gang could solve the case.
Danger Prone Daphne would accidentally find one of Light’s failsafes like the desk with the fake bottom, possibly setting it off and starting a fire, which Fred could easily figure out because it’s just another trap and that’s what he does. Of course that’d raise suspicions and be the first clue.
At some point while the gang were talking with Light Shaggy and Scooby would get hungry and wander off mid monologue to eat some apples they saw in another room only to see them being eaten by an invisible Ryuk and freak out and tell everyone, which Light would probably try to save but would accidentally incriminate himself by letting one detail slip that Velma would absolutely catch.
And once they had enough they’d set a trap with Shaggy and Scoob as bait, maybe pretending the two of them figured it out and were going to tell the others, and when Light wrote down their names in the Death Note it wouldn’t work because he would have no idea that Shaggy’s name is actually Norville Rodgers and because Scooby is a dog and immune to the Death Note.
Importantly, Light would absolutely underestimate the gang. At face value they’re all complete idiots, seemingly stumbling around into success and he’d absolutely chalk up their successes to mere luck. The gangs made up of a himbo obsessed with traps, a rich girl with too many hobbies, one that’s smart but blind as shit, a gluttonous hippy, and a dog. He would absolutely miss that Mystery Incorporated are a force in their own right and make the perfect team, just like when he failed to account for Mello and Near working together.
While his ego could allow him to mess up like he did with near, the task force still let so much of Lights simple and obvious tricks go over their heads. I would say most of the gang is equal to the task force in detective skill. Daphny is really the only one who could figure it out, and she isn't anywhere near the intellegence of near or L. If we play by scooby doo's rules, then this could happen, but by death note rules, they would never get so lucky.

Honestly, if the mystery gang were more unknown rather than world famous, they may have a better chance of catching kira. Fred himself could easily get past light's fake drawer trap as he has a knack for traps of all sorts, especially in mystery incorporated onwards. Velma is already on the same level as batman according to various crossovers, daphne has plenty of skills on her own that can come in handy, and shaggy and scooby could ironically be the trickest opponents for light, as shaggy's real name is norville rodgers, however not many people call him that, even if the scooby gang were famous, and scooby is immune to the death note anyway.
Light is cooked in different ways, his only advantage is the tone of his own story since that would radically change the format of the mystery. But Light is a dumbass, no matter what he tries to convince himself of, the gang will always catch him if they have been informed of even the slightest details about Kira. Knowing the region he operates and his method of killing are enough for the gang to counter Kira, especially considering how much less public their investigation would be and how Light would dismiss them for being teens that go around in a hippie van.
The Scooby gang is too much for Light because they have solved so many mysteries over their careers that it wouldn't be hard for them to quickly figure out a list of suspects, also they have comedy shenanigans that can destroy the seriousness of death notes narrative (one of the reasons Shaggy and Scooby are so dangerous for Light, they are capable of toon force and thus far out class the death note)

Yeah I think people forget about variations especially the mystery incorporated versions of the characters because Velma in that show was already doing what was basically spec op operations and have some experience with the supernatural and some people with varying expertise such as Velmas mom being obsessed with the supernatural and other people with similar spec op style experience.

I think they're more than capable. The real question is opportunity. Like it or not, if we go by the Death Note world, the real key to Mystery Inc. solving the case won't solely be on Velma. It would very dependent on whether or not anyone in the gang can see and interact with Ryuk, especially Scooby, since the rules are human-specific. From there, the whole mystery's scenario changes and can get very chaotic from there, whch only helps Mystery Inc. The only other option would be the gang not finding anything but if that's the case, they wouldn't even show up on Light's radar.
In a world closer to the Scooby Doo Gang's adventures, easily. Although, you could make the argument that Light wouldn't have gotten as far as he did, depending on how far you want to count as Scooby's world.

I think that if the Scooby Gang actually got their hand on the Death Note they could figure it out, but only because Scooby is usually shown to be a very good tracker. It is very hard to completely remove a smell. Considering how lucky Scooby and Shaggy are, they might just stumble onto the solution from that alone.
That said, I don't even know if the gang would get that far. And even if they did, Kira would probably just stop them before they connect all the dots.

Velma isn't inherently a vehement denier of the existence of a supernatural, she's a skeptic given the number of hoaxes and fakes they've encountered but would have no trouble accepting a supernatural explanation if that was the most logical one. And given that Kira's method of killing is (intentionally) remarkably consistent she would probably very quickly come to a conclusion that the supernatural is at work here. She would probably also be able to track some habits and tendencies within the deaths and come to the same initial conclusion that L did -- that they're dealing with a student in the Shinjuku area.
Whether they'll be able to narrow it down to Light as a suspect is another question -- I think they will be able to if they had help from Interpol, just as L did.
Regardless, once they have Light as a potential suspect and have access to his room they would likely figure him out very quickly because Light's methods of checking for intruders and spies in his room are fairly cheap parlor tricks they'd have no trouble finding -- the pencil lead on the door trick would very quickly be noticed by Fred and Velma and Scooby with his strong nose would have no problem pinning the origin of the lead to the door. In addition Fred has immediately seen through trickier trap drawers in Scooby Doo canon and correctly opened them -- and that would've immediately outed Light as the killer as he would've found both the Death Note with the original real rules and instructions as well as a comprehensive list of Kira's victims. The important thing to note here is that Light's trap drawer isn't actually particularly elaborate and would be fairly easy to figure out how to open for experienced puzzle solvers and detectives, especially if a dog could easily sniff out what was used to open it.

I thought your logic was sound. They have defeated supernatural foes before, but Light is from a genre outside their reach. Scooby Doo: Mystery Incorporated is the closest series I've seen to what we see in Death Note, and it's really darkest around the end where the gang ends up destroying a powerful alien entity that consumes everyone else in town. Still though, it's not that close a comparison, as the villains were no where near Light's level of intelligence and manipulation, and the final foe used powers more than intelligence, if I remember right.
Well, we gotta remember that Naomi almost manage to catch Kira by taking a closer look at the Bus Hijacking incident
For those who don't remember: Kira was being followed by an FBI Agent by the name of Raye Pember. To make sure Kira got rid of that guy, he set up a Bus Hijacking where a random Crackhead... Well, *hijacked* a bus that Kira & Raye were at.
Raye decided to give his ID to Kira, which sealed his fate as I'll explain later. Anyways, Kira gets the Crackhead to see Ryuk, he freaks out, then leaves the bus only to be killed by a car.
Because of this, Raye doesn’t suspect Kira anymore & leaves him alone. But because Kira wanted him gone, he stalked Raye into a subway, made him get onto a train & write down all the names of the FBI Agents that went to Japan with him.
30 minutes later, Raye dies along with all of the FBI Agents that came with him to Japan. Turns out, Raye wrote their names on the Death Note without knowing.
As for Naomi, she figured out by consulting the people who were at the bus on that time & peaced things together with relative ease.
If Kira was just a couple of minutes late, or if Naomi got lucky enough to see L or Kira's dad... Kira would've been caught right then & there.
I think the Scooby Gang could in theory figure this out too since you don't just SHOW someone your ID, especially if you're an FBI agent.
Especially if that same agent later gets killed just a few days later.
All they have to do is analise all the killings that Kira was involved with until they reach the FBI killings, NOT meet Kira until they catch him proper & it's game over for him.
The one thing I will say, since plenty of others have mentioned the Shaggy-Norville deal and Scooby, well, being a dog.
A lot of Light's plans are based around deceiving other smart people and geniuses, he manipulates and controls, doing everything to make his schemes Foolproof.
But the thing is, the problem with something being foolproof is that you tend to underestimate how foolish a fool can fool around foolishly.
Straight man vs straight man Light wins.
But Mystery inc arent straight men, they're goofy and while they lock on here and there, Shaggy and Scooby are gonna do some nonsense that Light doesn't expect or Misa will leave behind a trail he didn't account for letting Velma start a trail. In the end, it is a matter of time, the sooner Light takes out the gang the safer he is, but if he takes too long then incidental events will eventually lead to his downfall.

The gang have consistently shown the ability to see ghosts, so I'd say it's a safe bet they'd see him.
Light would actually most likely struggle to stay safe from mystery inc. Velma is as smart of a detective as Batman, Shaggy is the only member of mystery inc. who uses an alias, Fred is an expert in traps so he could easily find the death note fire trap in lights bedroom early on, and Scooby is a invincible talking dog. Overall light is likely caught thanks to Velma being as smart as L, Fred finding the death note with ease, Shaggy being unable to be killed without misa’s help, and Scooby not being an average dog.
Schooby Doo can solve Kira's case alone.
I feel like the whole scenario would become depressing. Light may be able to justify killing L and Near, as they were in his eyes protecting a corrupt establishment, but he'd have to go through a lot more mental gymnastics to kill a bunch of meddling peers and their dog. Unlike L, they are truly ignorant and naive, and aren't a part of the corrupt establishment. I think the most likely scenario is that Scooby and Shaggy accidentally stumble upon Light with the Death Note, but though the case is 'solved', the Scooby Gang can't do anything because they know Kira has at least some of their names. Either they are pressed into service as Kira's followers, or they promise to never reveal the truth, otherwise they get killed by the Death Note.
Though the threat of suddenly dying now looms over their lives, perhaps the Scooby Gang would keep Light's number, just in case they ever needed a Deus Ex Machina. Because chances are, in Light's universe, they will run into someone else who is purely evil, perhaps accidentally uncovering a despicable crime ring of the terms-of-UA-cam Service violating sort, and are so far in over their heads that when they call the police about it, THEY are arrested...and it looks like they may make the Scooby Gang disappear for knowing too much.
But, they'd manage to get a message out to Light, and he'd save them as Kira. But, now that the police are looking for the Scooby Gang, they end up as Kira followers entirely, unable to go back to their normal lives due to the hit on their heads. That is, unless Kira wins...
The only true challenge for Light is Velma, but there are some implications on this.
If Mystery Inc. get this case to solve in the place of L, Light most likely would win. I because Velma is too skeptical of supernatural and this would likely expose her to fall as a victim of the Death Note and once Light kills Velma, it's over for the gang, they will hardly figure out that Light is Kira without Velma. I feel Shaggy and Scooby would be the best chance to solve the case, they are so lucky that they may be able to touch a Death Note and then be able to see Ryuk or Rem. If they could convince Velma to consider this case as supernatural or even make the rest of the gang also see one of the shinigamis, Velma could link the dots and so Fred could make a trap to get Light.
I feel that the gang would solve the case by setting up a trap with the rest of the people on the Kira case only for Scooby and Shaggy to screw it up by setting it off too early which coincidentally revealed Light right as he finished writing 'Shaggy Rogers' in the death note, and afterwards the gang just laugh about how Light didn't know shaggy's actual name was Norville
Daphne is the only one that hasn’t solved mysteries alone.
Shaggy and Scooby actually have the high ground even on the death note world since
1- Light would strruggle into actually killing Shaggy since aliases are not valid for the note
2- Scooby is a dog, not a human.
3- The scooby gang have been able to see ghost, this added with Ryuk gluttony and Daphne giving away Scooby Snacks could put Kira on the trenches
If they following death notes verse rules.
There's nothing to say they have to solve this *alone*
They can 100% call on the japanese police and wammy house , or even the television place where missa and matsuda acted.
Their biggest problem isnot to survive the encounter but to expose light as kira so killing them 5 or killing them 3 and still reveal lights identity should still count as a win even if they just come into the japanese investigation team , ask for the suspects.

Look the missa incident from affar while light still tries to catch L , clueless from the gang ; watch as 1 superintelligent dog follows his movement and notices how a magic apple dissapears while he throws it at the air ; still clueless when the gang just happens to set a trap his room to catch him hypno training some kind of invisible animal to murder people while also replacing the 2 steps door system ; hear how he wants to rule the world and un-alive criminals with his magic death note while he watches tv because missa did a giant mess up
Trace them both once the letter is investigated look for both of them to have 1 thing in common ; the one thing is their notebook.
Give it to the police for them to decipher if any of them is magical
And then solve it by pure shaggy &scooby chance of seeing him throw an apple and fred having just enough speciality to place microphones on lights room without him noticing ; and missa being just special enough to do all her mess by 1 transmition from L ; and the police force and wammy house doing all the other heavy lifting .
To be fair, shaggy and scooby's toon force would go crazy in this case
I think that there's a very strong possibility backed in canon that Scooby could sniff out Ryuk And Fred being a master at traps would be able to find the Death Note in Light's hidden compartment in his bedroom
the problem is they are known names the only one that might be safe is shaggy depending on what the death note counts as a persons name but even if we given them immunity to that i dont see how they would figure it out

I'm gonna be real here: the Scooby-Doo gang don't stand a chance. Light is without question smarter than all of them combined. Heck if the Scooby-Doo gang is famous enough that they are called over to Japan to solve a case in place of L then there is no way Light won't find out about them. He already has access to police records to find out about them but even without that he could very easily looked them up online since unlike L they never actually had the need to hide their identities before now which means it would be far easier to find out who they are.
Not to mention even IF the Scooby-Doo gang figure out that Light is Kira, what would it matter? How would they prove it? Light isn't stupid enough to willingly confess like all the other Scooby-Doo villains and the Scooby gang don't have anywhere near the same level of credit or sway over the police as L so without any solid evidence the police (especially Light's dad) won't be as willing to believe any of their claims.

Although in this instance I think you were pretty fair in explaining where their strengths and weaknesses lie, and gave good reasons for why they couldn’t solve it, but also explained how far they could possibly get.
If there was one thing I wanted to point out, it’s something that a lot of people who theorize about this often miss. How could they make the connection between Miss and the Death Note? We’ve all seen and thought about Batman or Columbo accusing Light of being Kira, but they always forget about Misa. Personally, I think if the gang has any chance against Kira, it’s by making Misa join their side, or by somehow convincing Rem that Misa would be better off with Kira in jail.
Also scooby is unbeatable since the deathnote can't kill dogs and scooby is surprisingly fast and durable

Another thing they have is plot manipulation, in mystery incorporated episode with the robotic crab we see on one second theres no sand in the locker but like a second later sand shows up out of no where also i do think they can trick him because also in mystery inc where they get all of the disc they tricked the old mystery incorporated(most of them are not as smart as light but should have the experience to know about mysteries and also the bird of the old mystery incorporated is just as smart if not more intelligent than light and has more experience and they still cooked up a plan to trick all of them), also with light traps that destroys the death note wouldn't work because fred would find out there is a trap and know exactly how to deal with that trap

i do think Velma is smart enough to solve the case as her an L are fairly close in terms of detective skill. L is a genius that has been solving near unsolvable mysteries sense childhood. A nice video but you put this scenario as if it was only in death note's and not account for the rules of scooby doo lore. a true fair viewpoint is one that applies both into account. from how i see it this would need to account for when the mystery gang is in their career and when for light this is. since you said after L's disapperance i'll say a year after L's death, where Light's ego is boosted and trying to pretend to be L. he has Misa and no one else. (i'm settting it so the guy who got him busted isnt here for it.)
for the mystery gang it depends on there age. i'll set them as there ages as collage level where is around Light's age. this is when they are still not as well known but out travelling the world. velma is basically batman level smart with science and deduction. she would most likely like L, narrow down Kira's location to japan and follow the trail similar to Naomi did and that could help narrow it down to light. they would also realize they might need to use fake IDs by this point. also Velma is capable of hacking to see what the task force have in their files. due to the point in time for their careers mystery inc wont have enough sway to ask for infomation. Light dealing with Velma is light dealing with another L.
fred is a master of traps and can instantly bypass traps and Daphne is always got a weird backup plan for them and at one point learns martial arts. both are smart in their own ways and notice small details others dont. (the fire drawer trap and pencil lead trap would be seen and dealt with.) Shaggy never goes by his real name anyways and he would be silly enough to use an alias to hide his alias. Also he is far stronger and faster than others think. all of them would cover each others weaknesses and be hard for light to defeat and risk losing to if he even for a second underestimates them and underestimate them he will, at least in the beginning. Light also has to be careful with Misa because she could risk giving him away. the greatest threat though is Scooby Doo himself. even is Light could kill the mystery gang they would still have to deal with Scooby Doo simply because he is a dog. Dogs cant be affected by the death note.
we also have the potential for Scooby and Shaggy accidentally finding evidence about Ryuk simply because they decided to enjoy some apples. besides if Light did kill the humans of mystery inc, what is Light going to do when a pissed off talking great dane with a speech impediment comes rolling in with a tank and aiming it at Light's face and no escape route and a voice recording of Light's bragging after he thought he won? is it was when Near was around but with mystery inc instead of Near it would have resulted in Light losing due to the same reason he lost in canon but but at a time mystery inc is famous, would still end with members of the gang dying but Light would still lose.
Light would only win if you take away the wackiness of Scooby Doo but taking away the seriousness of deathnote is equally unfair. for this kind of debate we need a even amount of both. i think Light managing to kill Fred, Daphne and Velma is most likely to happen in this scenario but will result in him being caught by either Scooby or Shaggy and Scooby depending on if Light can ever learn Shaggy's real name, a name he won't want ever being learned. (these two may be cowards but they put that fear aside for their friends.)
so in my opinion Mystery Inc. solves the case but with extreme difficulty.

To be honest…I don’t see it.
I love the Scooby gang, but the majority of their main opponents are committing financial crimes, or murders, usually with technology. The amount of supernatural phenomena they’ve detectivized is quite slim. On top of that (given the circumstances set up), Light would know exactly who they are and be able to kill 4/5ths of them whenever he wants.
Yes then he have to deal with Scooby Doo and light is done.
