Welcome back to Hourless Life where we are driving around the world.
We head back to the United States for the first time, after 554 days of international overlanding.
During our two-month trip back, we make a massive loop around the western United States. Our goal was two-fold: 1) Visit family and friends and 2) Instruct at Overland Expo West 2023.
Unexpectedly, we almost drive off a cliff in Moab, which is the most harrowing part of our journey back! As a result, we have a 2.5-hour recovery in some really slick mud.
We hope you enjoy getting to know our family and hearing our thoughts about how our return to the USA impacted us.
Grab your favorite beverage and join us. As always, feel free to leave a comment. We do our best to answer every single comment on our channel.

🌎 Who we are and what we’re doing:
We’re Eric + Brittany + Caspian Highland, and we’re driving around the world! We left the United States in October 2021 and arrived in South America during November 2022. Over 10-15 years total, we intend to drive across all six habitable continents. We started traveling full-time in February 2014 and have never looked back.

Listen to the full poem, Eric. It's so heartwarming and will touch your soul deeper than you ever thought possible. I still have my mother thank God. I heard this poem after my father passed away on Christmas day in 2019. It lifted me up in a way that no other words had done during those hard days after my dad's passing. Again, my deepest condolences and I thank God you were able to be with her before she passed. May she v rest in peace. God bless you and your family. May you all be safe in your continuing journey.
rlucerin, thank you. I will listen to the full poem, and knowing my mother (who was a laureate poet in her own right decorated and recognized internationally) I'm sure she had the full poem memorized as she did countless others. She was a beautiful and strong woman. Selfless to the core. If you've ever read The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstien, that was essentially my mother. My belated condolences too to you on the passing of your father. I pray you are at peace. I'm still wrestling with the passing of my mom just 19 days ago as of this writing, but I'm genuinely glad she is at rest now. Thank you for always being an encourager here on our journey. ~ Eric
@@HourlessLife thank you
I'm really sorry that your Mom passed away, Eric! What a gift that the timing worked out to see her 1 last time. I pray your heart is healing.
Teri, thank you so much. It was a blessing that we went back when we did. I'm still processing it all, but I'm at peace that she's at peace. ~ Eric
Another lesson to be learned by this..."Keep the camera rolling!!"😂😂
rlucerin right? I was so bummed she didn't get it on film. It was epic though from the drivers seat, Caspian was screaming elatedly (he loved it) and we were spitting mud everywhere trying to make it up the other side of that gatekeeper.. but it is what it is, the memory is emblazoned on our minds as is much of this journey that never makes it to UA-cam. ~ Eric
Thank you for the shout out guys. We are finally watching this one. Love you guys.
Thank god you came back and saw your mother❤
Of course! You guys are the best! Love to you and the fam!! ~ Eric
Awesome video as always Hourless Life. Y'all's family is so awesome and the time y'all spent with Eric's mother was priceless. And y'all's two older children are some cool people.
Thanks brother. We really enjoyed our trip back “home” and so thankful that we made that trip so I could love on my mother one last time in this world. ~ Eric
Fantastic video, I really enjoyed your in-depth look at your US travels. I am so sorry for the loss of Eric's mother, my condolences to you all. Safe travels. xxx
Thank you mitch. Appreciate the kind words regarding my mother. Truly appreciated. ~ Eric
Sorry about the loss of your Ma buddy ❤️
Such a beautiful poem.
Thank you Lee and Willow. Appreciate that. ~ Eric
Excellent I remember some of those stops and the overland expo. Love Arizona it’s been years since I’d been there. Have family there.
So glad we could bring back good memories for you Art. We love Arizona. If I lived in one place in the USA, that is where I would call home. ~ Eric
Ive been exploring the Moab area for nearly 40byears, but got my first lesson in white knuckle slip and slide driving a couple summers below. The rain turned an easy 2 whl drive trail into a horrifying terrorfest.
As you've seen from this video, I can imagine! Glad you made it through ok. Keep enjoying your journey Boco, and thanks for sharing in ours. ~ Eric
What a beautiful journey! Thank you for sharing!!♥
Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. Glad you enjoyed it Sandra. ~ Eric
HOW AWESOME A STORY ON THE RETURN HOME!!!😃 BLESSED FOR SURE. SO SORRY TO HEAR OF ERIC LOSING HIS MADRE..... IT HURTS🙏🙏😥😥. I LOST MY MOM IN 2020, AND THEN POPS 6 MONTHS LATER, STILL ADJUSTING 3 YEARS LATER. WHATS FUNNY IS YOU STAYED IN BURLEY, IM LITERALLY 20 MILES NORTH...LOLOL. YES IT WAS A COLD WINTER HERE IN SOUTHEAST IDAHO. WE HAD TEMPS DOWN TO -10 DEGREES, WERE AT 4300 ELEVATION. GLAD YOU ARE ALL BACK ON THE JOURNEY AND PRAYERS ARE SENT FOR YOU ALL. GOD SETS HIS ANGELS OF PROTECTION AROUND YOU 3 EVERY DAY!... BE SAFE AND JESUS RULES.
race, it was SO COLD in Burley!! Had no idea you were that close. My condolences on the loss of your parents and thank you for the kind words. We treasure your continued prayers on this journey. ~ Eric
So beautiful that it worked out that you got to spend that precious time with your mom and get that poem on video! Thanks for sharing your trip 😊
Hey stackorlee, thank you so much. Every time I would see my mother after she was around 88 years old or so, I thought it may be the last time. So we always made each visit extra special. There is a photo somewhere that Brittany has of the final hug I got from her and it is precious to me. I'm still processing her death 19 days ago as of this writing. It is a hard thing to wrestle with, but I'm glad she is finally at peace. Appreciate you. ~ Eric
So thankful you were able to spend time with your family, especially Eric’s mom.
It was precious to spend time with her. It always was every time we'd see her on our travels. I'm still processing the fact that this won't happen again in this lifetime. But so glad that I got to capture a little of this for Caspian to look back on someday. ~ Eric
