Thank you for bringing the importance of saving this ecologically treasure place in such a beautiful manner. Keep up with your movement to bring ecological sensitivity among the mass 👌
Thanks a million Scroll.in to raise this serious issue.. We have to protect our wetlands . If we continuously losing it. Our biodiversity will be in danger. Then another covid pandemic is not so far.
Loved this production, a good introductory piece. Would love it, if you guys could do a follow up and talk to West Bengal State Environment and/or Wetland department authorities and put to them the questions that hardly any journalist asks. All the Best!
I actually live in the 'other' part of East Kolkata Wetlands. This is the area which was carved up from these beautiful wetlands and my neighborhood is an upscale one where the original landowners work as domestic helps or do odd jobs. It's very sad to see their plight. However, because my neighborhood is a co-operative society, we do have schools and other facilities for these children. There are still many 'bheris' (fish ponds) in my neighborhood which makes living here very different from the notorious congestion of Calcutta. Thank you Scroll for showing this side of the megalopolis and I hope we could do much more to save these wetlands and the livelihoods of these people.
Thank you, I'm from the U.S.A. and believe that it's important for all of us to be knowledgeable about not just what's going on near where we live but globally.
I'm staying in rent over here in one of the overpopulated areas of wetlands. Everyday, waterland is getting filled and bheris are converted to mass dwelling spaces. I'm learning so much more about wetlands, thanks for it. I wish we all could raise a voice against it.
It is unfortunate that in spite of Kolkata having a population of 15 million people and India having a population of 1.4 Billion, this has a view of 7K, while a frivolous tik-tok video attracts 10s of million of views. That is the dichotomy of our existence.
