  • Our IoT micro:bit LoRa Node enables you to quickly and easily get up and running with LoRa (long range, low power radio) and The Things Network using a simple block based coding interface on the BBC micro:bit. This video guides you through the process of setting up your micro:bit and attaching it to The Things Network - helping you to be up and running in just minutes.
This video was created as part of a workshop for "The Things Virtual Conference" on the 16th and 17th April 2020 by Ryan Walsmley of Pi Supply.

The LoRa Node is useless if you don't have a working Things Network server node in range. There is no indication that the device is transmitting, and if you can't see a reply from the Things Network, then there doesn't seem to be any possibility to debug the problem. I was able to use an SDR receiver to see that my LoRa board transmitted a pulse of RF at the right sort of frequency, but didn't see anything on the Things Network console. I have no idea whether the nearest Things Network access point is operational. Pi Supply need to talk about the setting up of a local node to 'hear' the transmission from this BBC:Microbit accessory. The BBC:Microbit LoRa library also has peer-to-peer and continuous receive modes - Pi Supply need to tell us all about these options as well. In short - this is a good clear video on how to set up the node, but then nothing on debugging or other applications. BTW, I tried moving the inductor in order to enable the external antenna, and put the external antenna on a pole to increase radiated signals, but still no response from the Things Network here in Leicester, UK. Very disappointing for an expensive accessory - I am an experienced electronic engineer and radio amateur, so goodness knows how schoolteachers are going to use this device in their classrooms.

Nice and clear video. Is there an article to go with it where to find all the information offline?
