I have leased a 2020 Tacoma before and it was the dumbest decision I ever made. I was driving a car that wasn’t mine, so in March of 2020 I financed the Taco through my local FCU and man that took a huge burden of my shoulder. In that same year I sold that Tacoma back to the dealer and only lost $500. I don’t think I will ever buy another Tacoma. My back hurt just by driving that damn cheap thing to work. Hopefully Toyota brings the FJ back. I have a 2008 FJ Cruiser and man that things is comfortable and it’s more off road worthy with barely any mods.
The sticker price alone is insane...$65K+...that's not that far off from the MSRP on my '22 Tundra TRD Pro - $68,500 i think (which i hated)! I spit up my coffee when you said what your lease payment was. I appreciate the fact that you are putting yourself out there and providing context (i.e., this is a business expense) but damn. I am buying a '24 Ranger Raptor TODAY for $58,400 (MSRP) and putting enough down so my payment is just less than $400/mo. There should be a big disclaimer at the beginning of this video..."Please for the love of God do not try this at home!" I that fancy gimmick seat is worth it.
My purpose for using a short term lease would be to have the ability to return a vehicle that doesn’t meet expectations . If these vehicles flop in the market place , and suffer in resale value , I don’t want the huge hit in value when attempting to resell .
Love the truck & maybe you can do some tax stuff for the lease, however I would just buy going forward, let’s say you pay 980 m X 36m = 35k then Toyota wants you to pay 45000 to buy it out….= 80,000 total, vs just buying it for 65k to start with and having equity in it as you pay it down, Either way love the channel and excited to see what you do with it
Lease and mods how does that work? It’s the dealerships vehicle in essence or am I missing something here. If you purchase it at the end of the term no issue. If you don’t aftermarket part out time and you have to reinstate all the OEM components. Which means storing them.
@@TRDJon Everyone is free to treat the property of others in this case a vehicle under lease as they see fit and face the consequences of their actions for better or worse. I did a quick Google search. AI is handy at summarizing content. In short it says be very very carful and read the fine print. Which no doubt you have. Coming from the Subaru WRX world engine upgrades for performance are considered “meaningful mods" followed by big brakes and suspension. No suspension upgrades are needed on a TRD Pro imax Force Tacoma clearly leaving engine output and brakes. Superior aftermarket brakes are easily reversible when push comes to shove. Engine mods for power gains fall into a different category when engine maps are changed, AF ratios changed, timing and boost levels changed to provide context. I am personally sceptical that a dealership would take kindly to horsepower and torque output upgrades if implemented and discovered as this reduces the margin of durability built into the engine for a future new owner buying the truck off a previous lease. It puts Toyota at risk for engine warranty issues. And social media posts make discovery more probable especially if one is popular and displaying the modification on UA-cam. For your information with respect to an engine performance upgrade that is likely visibly undetectable to the untrained eye there is what appears to be a parallel ECU that is plug and play with built in maps that can interface seamlessly with the OEM ECU called the JB4. The JB4 claims "power gains of up to 60hp to the wheels on a stock vehicle. Preloaded with custom JB4 Tacoma tuning software and up to 8 maps for various fuel and modification levels. Compatible with all driving modes." If I didn’t have my Subaru this would be tempting as I have a 2024 TRD Sport. These dyno verified outputs bring an ICE only TRD Tacoma close to the TRD Pro max Force with less tech and less weight. Pretty sweet. The launch edition of JB4 early this year was for automatic non hybrid models. So unless that has changed this is off the table for you. That leaves air intakes for power upgrades. Air intakes are a common go to modification for some unknown reason to me at least. I have just recently seen one air intake that claims meaningful output increases without a tune. Tiny gains if any far below claims of 14 HP are the reality though without a tune that is either custom or a shelf map tune; that’s not according to me but according to a professional tuner I have used in Toronto Ontario Canada with a solid representation who worked on my WRX and advised me. So I have little reason to doubt him as he sells intakes and a host of other performance engine parts. There is also an old Speed Academy UA-cam post “One Fast 2015 Subaru WRX Track Tested at the Limit” ua-cam.com/video/WGtIerbbgNU/v-deo.html where he goes on the record about intakes. Any change that you will notice apparently without a tune you basically hear, namely the induction noise. $577 USD or there about seems a lot to pay for the sound of air sucking but that’s just me.The JB4 at $530 USD a proven performer is a better value. So by the process of elimination assuming the only meaningful modification for performance left is brakes as braking is a performance modification. So are brakes the modification you are thinking of? Regardless have fun doing whatever you plan for your Tacoma TRD PRO i max Performance. A true beast given its small displacement ICE.
The rear seat delete looks interesting. I was thinking of taking the rear seat out of my 2018 Tundra and creating more storage. I've only used it as a seat once in the last 4 years. I haven't found anything online that really jumps out at me yet.

Leasing makes sense for a business like his if he wants to keep the vehicle for a short time. He is practically renting it until the videos cover the cost of the rent. When the videos start making less than the lease for a few months then he can jump out of the lease. For personal use I don’t think a lease makes sense ever unless it’s an extremely inexpensive lease. Some EVs in Colorado could be leased for less than $100/month including the down payment with 2-year term. One of the TFL guys did it.
Posting before watching. No, I do not believe in leasing. I think it’s a complete waste of your money. Just like renting a house or apartment. Unless you get some kind of equity from it. Update: Okay okay, yes I understand your reasoning and yes it does make more sense from your perspective. I guess I just come from thinking on the other side of the box. Purchase instead of lease, pay 80 - 90%% of the vehicle. I'm not stressing over a high monthly payment, and I already have positive equity in a vehicle that I own in preparation for the next vehicle if I wish to do so.
Leasing is like your renting which in the end is a wealth destroyer, as is purchasing most new vehicles these days. Even with a business, you can only write off against your income
Because on a lease they make u insure the max amount I bet your other vehicles isn’t insured for as much. Wish I could have seen this before u did it. Now with higher insurance u probably been better to buy
I payed cash for my 2024 tacoma trail hunter now i will do like I'm making a payment each month that really works out good doing it that way that way your not paying all that interest
@TRDJon so I'm thinking since Toyota has said they fixed the problems with Tacoma's for 2025.. maybe I buy one... And by the time it's paid off, all the problems with 6th gen 4runners should be all fixed...but I won't be buying ANYTHING until interest comes down.. 7-9% is insanity
Looking forward to seeing the mods. However, may they violate some terms of the lease? For example, modifying the truck may negate or reduce the residual value. I dunno, but worth checking into. Good luck.
I’ve leased Toyotas since 2012, works for me because you don’t pay the full sales tax, and I’m always looking for a new car whenever I pay off a loan anyways. Haven’t bought a set of tires since I started leasing, always under warranty too! 🎉
I’ve leased before and it’s not worth it. I’d rather finance even though payments might be a little higher. At the end it’s not yours and have to return it. There is a limit on mileage and it’s basically a rental.
Jon, maybe it's a FL thing but your insurance sounds expensive bro. As my vehicles have gotten newer the rates have decreased because of the safety features. Our LC is right at $1k for the year with a 1k deductible and high limits that satisfy my umbrella policy.
@ I should have clarified that I was referring to your off-road premium Tacoma. 38k-40k for a trade seems low. But maybe that’s how the 4th gen’s are worth used 🤷🏽♂️
$983 times 36 months is $35K. How much did you put down?😂 you’re giving them $15K in equity, guaranteed. Leasing is tough man. You’re basically renting a vehicle for $1000/month. At the end, if you wanna buy it, sure, you can finance it or pay cash, at $45K, making that an $80K truck. You probably can’t modify it much, and it sucks having to worry about miles if you plan on really using the truck. Just my opinion. I leased a ‘22 taco and it was a poor decision by me in the end. That is a sweet truck you got though! Definitely a bit jealous 😂. Loving my trd OR so far.
@TRDJon yeah, you’d be paying interest on the financing, true, but financing also allows you to make principal payments in addition to your regular monthly payments. Let’s just say you have financed $60K with $5K down at 10% (I think you’d probably do better, but just as an example) and 60 months term. Your monthly payments will be higher at roughly $1300, but after two or three years, you will have significantly more equity in the vehicle that you may then convert into a nice trade. I’d want to pay off as much as I could right out the gate to lower my daily interest rate as much as possible and get even more equity. With a lease, your payments go into the depreciation of the vehicle more so than with financing. After three years, and no principal payments (just regular monthly payments) you’d have spent about $12K in interest, yes, but your remaining balance would be about $30 grand instead of still owing $45K on a “contract balance.” If you tack in some principal payments and lower your daily interest, you’d both pay less in interest and have more equity. This isn’t an option on a lease. Also, you’re really stuck in that lease contract for three years or you pay a hefty penalty to get out of it, and that penalty could be as much as your remaining balance minus the final contract balance PLUS fees. Leasing really only makes sense if you’re totally cool with making monthly payments and you don’t plan on keeping the vehicle, but keep in mind that it’s not yours while you have it. You’re renting it from them, and there’s not much you can do at the end except trade it in and start over again with a new one. If you wanna buy out the lease, it’s $45K plus additional fees (remaining taxes, registration and title, and usually a “convenience” fee of some kind as well). With financing, after three years, if you wanna trade in your truck, you’ll have much more options for negotiating a better deal on the next vehicle. If they wanna trade you $45K for your truck, you’d have about $15K to throw towards the new one. Even if you subtract the $12K in interest that you paid over those three years, at least you have SOME net gain vs none whatsoever. And the example I gave is not smart either, but you always have the option of paying down the loan sooner and you’d probably have a significantly better rate too. The reality is, the only actual way to avoid getting ripped off is to buy the vehicle outright unless you can get extremely low interest on the loan, AND where you can make money investing that cash elsewhere instead.
50k for a used Tacoma LOL, you really need to lay off of the drugs Jon. This is post COVID and you could buy a new one with a full warranty for less. Those trucks are sitting on dealers lots. Good luck with your finances, hopefully UA-cam is paying you some good money and you can cover the cost this way.

You're nuts! You won't get anything for all those accessories you installed. Unless it's a private sale! Most of the time, with a truck that's lifted, you get less on trade-in. Leases aren't for those who modify vehicles. Or the person who wants to buy it afterward. You are paying $15K to $20K over the original MSRP. That's insane! Finally, of course, insurance will be higher on hopped up vehicle models. Have you ever watched those UA-cam videos. Of morons jumping a TRX across a creek. Rolling Rubicon Jeeps! I use Allstate. Military discount, safe driver, and more
Comparing insurance rates on the Internet without all the variables involved makes no sense. Insurance rates depend on (and I probably missed a bunch):
Driver’s age
Driving history
Driver’s economic status (credit score)
Geographical location (zip code)
Vehicle brand
Vehicle model
Vehicle age
Insurance Company
Driver’s History with insurance company
Multiple insurance products with insurer
Etc….
I certainly enjoy what you do with all these trucks, and now that you have a lease, it will be interesting to hear a review of your experience with that financing option. Besides, I want to see this thing go fast!
Thanks for a nice video. Great way to illustrate why lease etc. plus you don’t out tons of miles on so why take the hit. Good video!
Shoulda bought it Jon...
Why?
I bought a 2011 Suzuki Equator today for $4,500.00
I’m more satisfied with this purchase than I would be buying a 2025 similar truck and being broke.
Love the truck & maybe you can do some tax stuff for the lease, however I would just buy going forward, let’s say you pay 980 m X 36m = 35k then Toyota wants you to pay 45000 to buy it out….= 80,000 total, vs just buying it for 65k to start with and having equity in it as you pay it down,
Either way love the channel and excited to see what you do with it
I thought about this too. Depends on the APR for the normal purchase too. It could be close to the same with the included interest
Lease and mods how does that work? It’s the dealerships vehicle in essence or am I missing something here. If you purchase it at the end of the term no issue. If you don’t aftermarket part out time and you have to reinstate all the OEM components. Which means storing them.
Just put it back to oem or some mods could potentially add value in the dealers eyes
I got a 25 1794 Tundra from Conicelli on Black Friday from Ryan as well dude was a rock star great dealership I also got under invoice on the truck!
Heck ya!!!! That’s solid!!!!
Congratulations
Easy to do on a Tundra these days...
The rear seat delete looks interesting. I was thinking of taking the rear seat out of my 2018 Tundra and creating more storage. I've only used it as a seat once in the last 4 years. I haven't found anything online that really jumps out at me yet.
Really cool right?
You didn't pay as much because you can write some of it off on taxes! Aka, you are smart and I need to go start a toyota channel now as that's the only way I pay for a taco! ❤
I wanted any tacoma in all black in 2019? I think I got lucky with a voodoo blue trdpro with the manual transmission for $42,800 brand new 😂. It's definitely a keeper like your calvary blue trdpro 4runner. 🍻
Toyota determined this truck would be worth 45k at the end of your lease? In 3 years? Wow. Thats a lot of depreciation.
That’s wild! Almost free at that point
I hate the trd pro front seat. No space in the back
Posting before watching.
Curious what your edit is after my reasoning.
@ I’m watching it I’m watching it, sheesh, I’m a slow watcher you know.
Love the giveaway idea for $100!
Not really a giveaway when you are making a profit. Insane
Leasing is like your renting which in the end is a wealth destroyer, as is purchasing most new vehicles these days. Even with a business, you can only write off against your income
so buy a horse
For the average American yes
Been leasing for years and I love it.
Wow $500 under MSRP. Just bought an 24 ORP today at $3K under MSRP. You need to learn how to shop!
Because on a lease they make u insure the max amount I bet your other vehicles isn’t insured for as much. Wish I could have seen this before u did it. Now with higher insurance u probably been better to buy
Didn’t know that one. I’m gonna call my company Monday to see what’s up and how to lower that.
Ranger raptor with the factory tune will destroy this truck all day every day. You can also put people in the rear seats in the raptor
Conecelli in Springfield, PA?
Good ol Delco!
I payed cash for my 2024 tacoma trail hunter now i will do like I'm making a payment each month that really works out good doing it that way that way your not paying all that interest
Yep. Eventually paying cash would be ideal to avoid all the interest for a very long term car.
@TRDJon yes that works out good doing it that way for me and my insurance went way up for the tacoma trail hunter too
Thats so weird how it is so high
@TRDJon yes it is
When will 25 Tacoma pricing come out?
Next week I hope
@TRDJon so I'm thinking since Toyota has said they fixed the problems with Tacoma's for 2025.. maybe I buy one... And by the time it's paid off, all the problems with 6th gen 4runners should be all fixed...but I won't be buying ANYTHING until interest comes down.. 7-9% is insanity
Nice truck!
Thanks, man! I’m super excited about it.
Looking forward to seeing the mods. However, may they violate some terms of the lease? For example, modifying the truck may negate or reduce the residual value. I dunno, but worth checking into. Good luck.
Will do. It will hurt the value if I cut it all up. Which I don’t plan to do
Could have had twin turbo ranger with less cost
And that’s the life of a one of UA-camrs 🤣🤣
lol
With a lease , you can write off the payments , tax and license as a business expense .
You can do that with a financed vehicle as well.
Yes you can. But it’s from monthly installments when if I bought a car and sold the same year I can deduct significantly more.
Financially sound judgement. Tell me more...
You don’t have to pay sales tax up front when you finance
Yes you do. It’s wrapped into the whole financed price
I’ve leased Toyotas since 2012, works for me because you don’t pay the full sales tax, and I’m always looking for a new car whenever I pay off a loan anyways. Haven’t bought a set of tires since I started leasing, always under warranty too! 🎉
You’re making a great case for leasing!
I would honestly check the legalities of paying to enter a “giveaway”. Sweet truck!
Heck ya!
Call it a Raffle if we are getting into semantics.
Ofcourse they want you to lease they aint got nothing to lose. Its a win win for the stealership lol
Another bad thing about leases is the mileage limits.
True. If you drive a lot it doesn’t make sense
PLEASE DO THE RAFFLE GIVEAWAY 🙏
Jon I worry for you. Please do not over extend yourself.
I’m not
I’ve leased before and it’s not worth it.
FL is high AF.
Congrats on the Truck. Wish I made good money.
Don’t wish, do.
That's crazy for it to be worth that low. I'm thinking if you look around you'll get a better deal.
Worth that low is good. Cuz if it’s worth higher in the end you make more money. So it’s actually a good thing.
@ I should have clarified that I was referring to your off-road premium Tacoma. 38k-40k for a trade seems low. But maybe that’s how the 4th gen’s are worth used 🤷🏽♂️
Hard to move those with the current recall drama.
Pro=higher risk drivers generally
Gone are those days when the used value for Toyota trucks was very reasonable. Toyota has fallen short and lost its glory.
It’s the same if you financed the $65K truck though too. You aren’t paying just 65K at the end of the
@TRDJon yeah, you’d be paying interest on the financing, true, but financing also allows you to make principal payments in addition to your regular monthly payments.
To my knowledge you don't pay a hefty fine. Its $350 if I dont buy another vehicle after. We will see if this pays off in the end
Nissan Frontier PRO-X fully loaded $43K with V-6. Ford Ranger Raptor with 400 hp V-6 $56K Or this sad thing for $65K...hahaha
Need i say more?????????????????????????????????
No cuz that’s all public info. Cool 👍🏼
DO NOT WRAP THIS BEAUTIFUL TRUCK!!
Don't buy one, that's the most important thing 😁
1 in 1000 chance to win your old gen taco at $100 a shot? That math tells me your looking to get 100k for that truck (donate, other prizes, ect, ect surly doesnt and wouldnt come close to that). Nice as it is. it's a taco... Long time toyota owner here, with my 2nd gen taco, 2nd gen tundra and now 5th gen 4runner, but also a realist. Good luck with whatwver you do with or get out of it though ..
Not in it to make a killing but would look to make decent on it if I did that for sure.
I should start leasing trucks and just let them rot out here in New England. Return after every 3-4 years.
Why would you do that?
@ don’t have to worry about the frames rusting out
for a give away maybe you could do one with someone else? Do you think that would be possible?
It would be with all the companies involved
Nice truck but 923 a month for a Tacoma…….🤔
It was 1100 if I financed
Raffle!
This guy is the reason why Toyota gets away with charging a dumb amount of money for their vehicles.
Oh yea one person changed a whole global mega company on what they should charge for a truck that makes up 2% of Tacoma sales...F me right...
Eh I wouldn’t lease truck I would lease a ev though . Just get ranger is cheaper or Colorado
I tip my hat off to you for leasing an expensive truck.
I wish I could live your life for one day! For one day!!! 😇😅
Why would a normal person (not UA-cam) modify a lease vehicle (even if it’s for work)?!?
do the sweepstakes/giveaway/raffle!
You just answered it. lol.
You’re giving that truck away for $50k.
Email me bro! Lemme give it away to you then!
$50k sounds like a good deal
I’d enter the giveaway
I’d buy a chance for $100
I don't know why I'm watching this. Anyways, you have a bad lease contract, especially with 10k miles a year.
I don’t know why you comment without explaining
There is no F’in way that truck is worth 65K !!!! Over $900.00 a month for a lease 😅😅😅
Yep and the very first video I made on the truck already paid its first payment. 🤷🏼♀️
You made a video on the pro? I dont see it ha @TRDJon

Some useful information in this channel, but definitely bad financial influence! Young people please don’t follow what he does
lol 😂 ok bro. Cuz I’m telling everyone to just buy a car…? No, I mention how it’s for business and why.
@ Thanks for your reply. I get it, you have to buy new cars for business purposes. Im referring to all the buying information instead of car/trucks fact/reviews that I perceive from your videos. Just my two cents. Still like most information you provided though.
I make plenty of review videos. So I am confused
If you’re going to buy an expensive truck; it does not make sense to buy a Toyota that is NOT made in Japan. Simple.
Well there are no Toyota trucks made in Japan currently
You're nuts! You won't get anything for all those accessories you installed. Unless it's a private sale! Most of the time, with a truck that's lifted, you get less on trade-in. Leases aren't for those who modify vehicles. Or the person who wants to buy it afterward. You are paying $15K to $20K over the original MSRP. That's insane! Finally, of course, insurance will be higher on hopped up vehicle models. Have you ever watched those UA-cam videos. Of morons jumping a TRX across a creek. Rolling Rubicon Jeeps! Or blowing the differential off a Raptor. Doing stupid stuff off-roading. The extra money is for the preformance capabilities. I'm sure a Raptor R costs more than regular 3.5 Ecoboost Raptor.....
Buy a Toyota, dont finance it for more than 3 years, and drive it for 10 - 15 years.
No one asked for turbos
This guy is trying very hard to find any and every excuse to lease that ugly truck for $980/m…
It’s ok if you can’t afford it bud.
@@TRDJon Neither can you, that's why you had to lease it 🤣
Literally explained why I leased it...So...nice try
