  • Euro NCAP performs a series of crash and safety tests on car models:
▶ a frontal impact test where 50% of the width of the car strikes an oncoming deformable barrier, travelling at 50 km/h
▶ a frontal impact test where the car impacts a full-width rigid barrier
▶ a side impact test where a mobile deformable barrier impacts the driver's door
▶ a pole test where the car is propelled sideways into a rigid pole and the robustness of the centre airbag is evaluated
▶ a whiplash test performed on a sled.
A series of pedestrian tests are also conducted with different impactors : adult and child head form, lower and upper leg form. As well as AEB pedestrian and cyclist tests. In 2023 a test scenario for Cyclist Dooring Prevention was introduced.
Active safety is rated based on the performance of the car’s equipment: autonomous emergency braking car-to-car and car-to-motorcycle scenarios, occupant status monitoring (including seatbelt reminders, fatigue, distraction and impairment), lane support and speed assistance technologies.
From 2016, Euro NCAP has allowed manufacturers to sponsor an optional, second rating for their cars. The optional rating represents the safety level that can be reached if consumers opt for the additional safety equipment provided in the form of a ‘Safety Pack’. Euro NCAP would like to see such systems developed, available, and promoted on all models.

for a car starting at over 40k, it's disappointing to see the safety pack doesn't come as standard

Sensing is standard but only 4 stars, Sensing 360 is the optional pack.

Honda Sensing mostly functions well at daylight
Its ineffective at night time as I saw a video of a CRV Hybrid AWD with Sensing where the ADAS didn't work well at night time.

What does each euro ncap rating mean for each body region(for example what does good protection mean? What does adequate protection mean? What does marginal protection mean? What does weak protection mean? What does poor protection mean)? Can anyone explain it?

Test is too easy without small overlap.

These scores for occupant safety seem alarmingly low for major manufacturer and a premium model within their range. I am a Honda fan having owned many Accord and Civic models, lots of work by the Japanese engineering team to be done here. Thanks NCAP for alerting us to this flawed product.

The fact that they still use a small car to crash head on is embarrassing. Also why rely on technology when you can rely on mechanical and structure. Euro ncap is a joke along with the speed which is more than half of the average road speed
