Why would you want real life to be like this. He was taking of her as a father-like figure, but he decided that he was interested in her in a romantic way. Nobody's real life should be that way. If this happened to you or anyone else, it would be sad in real life. Parents need to take care of their kids, not sleep with them.
@@Michelle-pn9xt obviously the age gap was strange but don’t put a weird light on it, that’s just how things were in the movies back then even if they’re weird and don’t make sense
It's very different from the written version but has it's own charm which I must say is completely due to F.Astaire's presence...and I love their dance at the end and sluefoot..they dance without holding hands and almost gliding... very captivating!!
i think it's when she recognizes his face on the paintings and realizes he's the owner of the house because the lady told her that 'daddy long legs' lived there.
swoon! Something's gotta Give and Dream did something for Fred, I don't know what but that's the first time I've thought "sexy" when it comes to him. Awesome movie, thanks for uploading.
After "Something's Gotta Give," this is my favorite part of the film. It has the gentlest, most understated happy ending- for not one, but two couples- done completely to the strains of "Dream." Lovely.
Even though the age gap between the two of them is somewhat big but still, this film is one of the best that I've ever seen. Btw, thanks for the upload :)
This is one of my top ten movies of all time and Leslie Caron is my very favorite actress. I love Fred Astaire as well but in the realm of dancing, the man had NOTHING on my father. (But of course, I might be a little biased. 😉)
I've watched this movie so much that I don't cry no more, but I know that is about to change today, thank you so very much for the wonderful evenings I've had watching your channel, well here comes the tears, boo, hoo, hoo.
Even though the movie's story is completely different from the original (and more daring, I'd say, which is not necessarily a bad thing; only Julie may be a TEENY bit too much of a coquette to me...), it has such undoubtable magic to it. An entirely different kind of magic, but-beautiful. And it's full just of what I cannot resist and what makes me happy! I don't wanna let myself go analysing it, as a screening nor on its own... Just thank You, FallingRain, for the great movie! :)
The age thing is ok because he has danced with every great female dancer. The dances I love the best are with all the variety of women, Cyd Charise has some beautiful dances with Fred. And the early dances with Ginger Rogers. I have a lot pf his movies on CD. Great performer.
It is never okay for a man to be romantically involved a girl he is taking care of as their guardian. Why do people think everything and anything is okay?
I like it because this movie is both elegant and bluesy. The only parts of the movie that I think should have been changed are the dream sequences. It does capture the romantisism of alot of women's secret hearts.
truly one of my favorite Astaire Movies ..Somethings Gotta Give did it for me right from the start..Great cast .Brilliant talent.. Leslie Caron,,fit him to a tee... Aw those were movies to love..thanks so much
Although I'm a big Gene Kelly fan, I must say that I'm pleasantly surprised how Caron & Astaire carried this movie. I see Astaire in a different light now, in terms of his acting. One thing remains obvious is that Astaire was such a gentleman & showed elegance in his dancing and demeanor. Kelly, when called for it, could do the same but he RARELY tried to be elegant in his dancing. He focused on athletics/energy & related them to the story. Anyway, thanks for posting; this was hella cool!
His smile! Omg ! Im in Love with him…so charming and all the delicacy… id like to be in his arms and feel exactly what i see… My dream … so far from our world… no more dream…no poesy no delicacy…hopefully we have these movie…. Thank you to share with us…
@Musicalandmore : Only a true non-romantic could not appreciate the guy getting the girl in the end. And you have to consider this movie within the time period it was made.
YOU know it's been said Fred Astair was paired with beautiful co-stars. They gave him sex appeal; he gave them class. I couldn't have agreed more with that statement. Mr Astair was not a good-looking man by any stretch, yet woman fell in love with him when watching his movies. My dad when I was growing up use to call him "Liquid Velvet" his dancing was so smooth so fluid. From top to bottom not a hair or a toe nail out of place when he was dancing. He was absolute perfection and made it all look so easy when in fact it was very difficult. Dad believed there wasn't a soul on earth that could dance better than Fred Astair. NO ONE!
I have this movie and watch it. Instead of watching it on the dvd I,ll go and watch it on UA-cam or on another site for free and save on the dvd machine.
Thank you for the upload. Came here after watching the Japanese version of daddy long legs anime. The anime and real action movie had different charm and humor🥰. I enjoyed both of them. I'm glad that I have the opportunity to watch this old but gold movie.
Such a wonderfully made and acted movie. Sensitive in nature, eloquent in timing and such a romantic film. Leslie Caron is my life long crush and is still beautiful and charming today.
Oh why isn't real life just like these old movies?!
Rita Ferreira I've got the same question.

Astaire's acting was finer than most people think, as his wife died during filming---and he kept on going, sometimes in tears between scenes.
swoon! Something's gotta Give and Dream did something for Fred, I don't know what but that's the first time I've thought "sexy" when it comes to him. Awesome movie, thanks for uploading.
what a beautiful movie! Completely fallen in love with it
god those final lines are so smooth...and then they go twirling off together, it’s almost better than a kiss
My first Fred Astaire movie and I loved it, mainly cause of the romantic storyline to it. I loved it so much.
After "Something's Gotta Give," this is my favorite part of the film. It has the gentlest, most understated happy ending- for not one, but two couples- done completely to the strains of "Dream." Lovely.
i realize Im pretty randomly asking but does anybody know a good place to watch newly released movies online?
@Reuben Justice ehh I would suggest flixportal. Just google for it:P -thiago

Even though the age gap between the two of them is somewhat big but still, this film is one of the best that I've ever seen. Btw, thanks for the upload :)
Well- back then, age doesnt matter.
Love this movie. First watched when I was 20 and single wishing I had a "Guardian." Always loved the idea of falling in love with an older man.
I have been in love with Fred Astaire since forever. This is my favorite movie.
This is one of my top ten movies of all time and Leslie Caron is my very favorite actress.
I love Fred Astaire as well but in the realm of dancing, the man had NOTHING on my father. (But of course, I might be a little biased. 😉)
FRED AND LESLIE ARE SIMPLY LOVELY TOGETHER..
Thank you
fred astaire can act in a paper bag
I've watched this movie so much that I don't cry no more, but I know that is about to change today, thank you so very much for the wonderful evenings I've had watching your channel, well here comes the tears, boo, hoo, hoo.
Wonderful, lovely, with beautiful dance scenes. It was definitely worth the watch.

Thanks for uploading this beautiful film !
Dramatic irony at its best. What a superb blend of dancing and music. Dream along !

Do you think there's any possible way you could get a hold of the 1931 version?
the olden year equivilent of twerkin
I never understood the story of this movie much but I love Leslie Caron and Fred Astaire lol

oh the memories didn't lie! Wonderful!!
That’s not in Cinemascope!!! And also I bet Daddy didn't just have his foot which was big, probably the rest too. It's Leslie's fault.
Awww what a good movie :)
thank you what a great movie and you uploaded it so perfectly just wonderful.
back then Hollywood they to be really successful you needed to know how to Dance , Sing and Act ,, a triple threat is what it was called
I have this movie and watch it. Instead of watching it on the dvd I,ll go and watch it on UA-cam or on another site for free and save on the dvd machine.
What a Playboy!

Bravo muito bom.
Bravo muito bom
I love this movie but I just gotta point-out that he was 32 years older than her.
didnt like how he strung her along, dumped her, then just got her back. lame!
何度も観たから字幕なくても話してる内容は分かるよ♪
That girl is thin
It wasn't on TV? The cable channel TCM plays it again and again
.
Nearing exams and i can
I would have rather seen Jayne Mansfield instead of Leslie Caron for this film
Such a wonderfully made and acted movie. Sensitive in nature, eloquent in timing and such a romantic film. Leslie Caron is my life long crush and is still beautiful and charming today.
Its the paintings that give it away!
