Elvis was obviously a complicated person…his life was mired by addiction and depressive episodes, all of which played out publicly because he was ELVIS. But every person who was close to him in life all described him as the most selfless individual they’d ever known. I also love how no matter what, Elvis always took care of his circle of people. There’s a famous story of a kid working within his inner circle who had stolen or misused funds to the tune of several tens of thousands of dollars. Elvis had to fire him…but not only did Elvis forgive him on the spot, he actually gave several thousand more dollars to the guy’s family, as that was the reason the guy had given for having stolen the money in the first place. And there are hundreds of similar stories out there about Elvis and his good character. Now…was he always the best human being? Hell no, lol. But to be as massive and as rich as he was and still be described by the people who knew him best, the people who saw every side of him, is remarkable, I think.

I’ve gone down the rabbit hole watching everything that I can find on Elvis and those that surrounded him. For most of his years it was nonstop silly fun inspired on a whim. I enjoy those stories the most. Though your points are correct, I understand that the good outweighed the bad for most of his short years.

I've been an Elvis fan my entire 57 years of life, lol. I was baptized on Elvis's music. My Dad was a fan also. In 1973, my Dad and I were in Vegas and saw Elvis perform. It only sealed my love of everything he did. As I got older, when Moody Blue came out during Elvis's last year....it became the nickname my Dad called me. Yes, I was a moody pre-teen, lol! Till his dying day it's what my Dad called me. Tears are streaming. Gotta go!

I just finished reading what your dad used to call you in your teen years. About that song Elvis sang called moody blue. Thatbis my last name moody, funny when I meet peo0le I tell them my name, an then I say and I get that way sometimes. Then they just laugh an say yeah. I loved listening to Elvis sing that song to. Elvis left a lasting good impression an feeling on you or anyone. I know he will never be forgotten, I was in
24 years old when it came on the news at my mom an dad's house that Elvis presley had past away. My mom said o my goodness. I could tell she was saddened to hear that.when I was 17 years old in the 70's Elvis plane the Lisa Marie flew over the house in my neighbor hood. That was in the state of oklahoma.I will never forget that. Yes, I love all his music. Yes, he is missed by us all, but I believe he is singing in the heavenly band. And has found the peace he was always longing for. In our hearts for ever Elvis will always live. Follow Jesus an one day we will all meet. Sending much love to all.❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊

I have an episode about his childhood coming out next Wednesday. You should come back for that. I have become a big admirer of Elvis as I have researched his life. I have always known his music but the man himself is far more interesting than I could have imagined. Humble, kind, and generous, this is the side of Elvis that was absent from the recent movie. He had problems of course, but there was more to Elvis than his problems.

No other celebrity has been given such affection from fans. I read somewhere that John Wilkinson said "I loved him then, and I love him now. Some things will never change". and "A day without Elvis music is a day wasted".

@@MMorbidGood day! I read in an Elvis Australia article enumerating all members of Memphis Mafia. There was a man named Ray "Chief" Sitton mentioned there. He was a fan of Elvis who was always at the gate of Graceland in the early 60's. One time, he asked the early Memphis Mafia members if he could go inside the mansion to talk to Elvis. He was a huge man and Elvis recognized him being always at the gate and calling him chief. It was said that Elvis called every men he didnt know as Chief. From then on, he was hired as a body and gofer. Marty Lacker acknowledged him as one of early Elvis entourage. Thank you.

@@MMorbidYou're welcome. You might also be interested to know that there's also a TCB band member who met Elvis in mid 1955 when he was 17 & Elvis was 20. He was the late Ronnie Tutt (Elvis drummer). The diferrence between him & John Wilkinson is that Ronnie was not an Elvis fan unlike John. In fact, Ronnie said that he didnt have a high opinion of Elvis that time. Heres what happened according to him in Texas in the North Side Jamboree, the Texas equivalent of Louisiana Hayride: Ronnie was a band member that time of an unknown band and Elvis was also there. He wasnt a big star yet according to Ronnie. Elvis broke the strings of his guitar so he borrowed Ronnie's band guitar. Elvis trashed their guitar according to Ronnie. Besides Ronnie became jealous of Elvis because his girlfriend kept on looking at Elvis. When he became Elvis' drummer in 1969, Ronnie told Elvis about this story and Elvis laughed and said it's hilarious. They became friends and karate classmate. Thank you.

John Wilkinson was the only core bandmember of Elvis who was his fan through & through. Other members such as Ronnie Tutt, Jerry Scheff, Glenn admitted that they were not fans and becoming only a fan when elvis became their boss. Also, John & James Burton. were the only 2 who did not miss a single show of Elvis from 1969 until 1977. John wore the TCB necklace from 1969 until John's death in 2013, removing only 5 times when he was hospitalized and for cleaning purposes. He was very loyal to Elvis. RIP John.

@@MMorbid I love your presentation very much. Another info I learned is that John was the only bandmember who had a documented interview when Elvis was still ALIVE. Said interview by a British DJ was in Sept. 1972 where he mentioned Elvis ' generosity. John said that his mother was hospitalized for a mild sickness and Elvis sent flowers with notes on it. Elvis even paid for her hospital bill when in fact John's family can afford to pay it.

I admire your excellent research ability, Ms. Madam. I read an article on the 1st death anniv. of John Wilkinson in Jan. 2014 and in that article, a picture of John's tombstone was featured with the name and date of birth of his wife already there. Isnt it morbid to put the name of the spouse who is still alive? John's wife of 30 yrs., Terry, died in 2017 and the article was written in 2014. It was also unfortunate that they were childless thus, John had no descendant. John was also an only child. Too bad! RIP Mr. & Mrs John Wilkinson.

I am NOT finding fault with your terrific piece, I'm only adding a tidbit of info. I'm an amateur Elvis historian. I only know of one "Chief" in Elvis' life. James Wetherington, legendary bass singer of Elvis' favorite gospel group, The Statesmen, was known far & wide as 'The Big Chief'. Elvis adored him. He too, like the 'chief' in your story, was a very large man. In no way am I challenging or doubting your facts; in fact, if further info surfaces on that mystery Native American in your story, please add it to your above typed intro. Thank you again for all your hard work and for your superb presentation!

Thanks for the information! I couldn’t find a “Chief” at all. The name comes directly from interviews with John himself and it’s very possible he is simply remembering wrong. I have found other errors in his story, and most likely it’s simply from the unreliable nature of memory. I corrected those errors when I found them and when something couldn’t be verified his version was used. I am so glad you liked this. I would love to know who this mysterious man was but we may never know for sure. If you find out please let me know!

@taylordavis6620 Good day! The "Chief" that the TCB band member John Wilkinson was referring to was mentioned in Elvis Memphis Mafia Wikipedia as Ray Sitton. Details are featured in Elvis Australia. He was a fan of Elvis who was always present at the Graceland gate in the early 60s. As he was a huge man, he caught the attention of Elvis and was called Chief by Elvis since E called every men he didnt know as Chief. One day, Ray Sitton asked an Elvis mafia to let him go inside the mansion to talk to Elvis. His request was granted and was hired as a bodyguard and gofer of Elvis. I lived in Burbank for a few years in the 70's....one day I went into a KFC and lo and behold, there was James Burton buying 4 or 5 box lunches to take with him. His shiny red, Caddy convertible was shining in the California sun, pretty as can be. Another time I stopped by a guitar shop in Hollywood and John Wilkerson's guitar was there on the floor. A black Gibson case with his name stenciled in white letters. I figured he had sold it, traded it in or taken it for adjustment or repairs. Never thought to ask.

The only thing is Parker was not involved with Elvis, then John Wilkinson was nine, and there were no films or photos of this concert, the ones you show were of the luisiana hayride where John first saw Elvis perform from clips shown on tv, still no Parker your believing the Elvis film colonel Parker didn't come into the picture till Elvis was on the Hank snow line up. Elvis had established himself way before Parker was in the scene, the latest Documentory has a lot of lies in it, Elvis was and always was his own man except when the colnel signed those film contracts. But thanks anyway.

John said he was 9. He was actually 10. I said 11 based on the year he was born but he had a birthday a month or so after the concert, which I said in the description. Elvis signed with Tom Parker March 26, 1956 which is clearly before this concert. I fact checked much of what John said and he was often incorrect with certain facts probably because of faulty memory. Parker was definitely at the concert and told people to find Elvis at the movies. Thanks for watching though.
